1. We play Overton on Tuesday. The only common opponent we've had is Hillsboro. They won 4-3, us 3-0. That in itself proves nothing. They have definately played a tougher schedule than us and have been playing well lately. We also are playing better avenging a 3-0 district loss in regular season with a 2-1 win in the finals. Should be a fun game..our schools are only about 1o miles away fron each other and most of us know each other pretty well. Any thoughts?

  2. QUOTE(BlackmanSoccerDad @ May 11 2007 - 07:50 AM) 826457118If this happened, I can tell you on behalf of Blackman Parents and Players that is not we are about, and I appologize on behalf of all of us. The past two years have not been the best of sportsmanship by our players, but those players have gone and not only have the players for Blackman this year worked very hard in the off season, during the season, they have strived themselves to show a lot of respect on the pitch this year and I believe they have accomplished this. Again, if he said anything of that nature, we appologize. I am sure this post will get back to Coach Vice and he will address the player.

Our team( Glencliff) is composed entirely of "ethnic" players. We have players from 9 different countries I believe. I'll just say this there a very few games when we aren't " asked " to go back home in not so nice terms. Coach stresses to us to keep our cool because all those guys are trying to do is get us mad. Maybe someday we can all just play soccer together and not worry about where we all came from.

  4. QUOTE(stamford_bridge @ May 9 2007 - 09:21 PM) 826455891Good points, boys. And I hope this is a stepping stone for Central (as I said, I am a Central fan), but if I am a betting man, I would lay my money down on the fact that your success is from having 12 seniors. But I would love for you to prove me wrong. I would love to see that disctrict have more parody. But it has always been Russ Plummer's district to lose. But that should take nothing away from your effort and your season. I am simply saying that as committed Central fans (and good for you for being so) you are overstating a few things. Friendship Christian, not tough. Smyrna, not tough (though when Pete Dakis - coach- was there they used to be consistent). Glencliff, not tough. Lebanon, not tough. Beech, not tough. Antioch, not tough. Centennial, not tough. Hunters Lane, not tough. White House, not tough. Antioch, not tough. These are all teams on either Central's or LaVergne's schedules. A team's schedule means little when teams are not playing tough teams. You are players or students who are remaining true to their school. Good for you. You should. I am just saying that there are many other districts in the state that are better (top to bottom). You can agree or not agree. Its your right. It would be good, though, if you had a little more thought behind such grand statements.

Whoa there skippy. Our team is very good. We had a rough stretch at the end because we sat 5 starters the last two weeks from injuries. 4 will be back tomorrow, the one with the broken collar bone is obviously still out. If you compare our scores against common opponents to some schools you consider good I'm sure you'll see we beat them just as well as other teams did. 2 years ago... everyone said we had no chance against Ravenwood in the Regionals..we won. Last year Antioch from our district beat Ravenwood in the regions. This year who knows. But I'll tell you this Wilson central has a good team and just because a team isnt a power every year doesnt mean they cant do well. No one said win state but make to sectionals is possible.

  5. QUOTE(MD4Sports @ May 8 2007 - 09:57 PM) 826454945TSSAA does keep a close watch on all red cards-they are supposed to be reported within 24 hours. Most refs report them the night of the match. Coaches that receive red cards typically have to sit out the next match and are fined $250.

Our ref association in East TN also tracks yellow cards. We report these to our high school supervisor after each game; that way any persistent infringers can be identified and trends evaluated.

Taunting was made a hard red last season which carries the typical next game suspension and forces your team to play short the rest of the current game assuming he was in the game and not on the bench.

I also would not compare soccer to football. I really don't think there is any place for dropping the f bomb or other profanity during the match; there is no need for it and it denigrates the game.

One last note: if you think the ref did a good job (it does happen once in a while!) tell him so after the game; that means a whole lot more to many of us than the money. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Just to clarify I'm not saying its okay to say the f-bomb. I'm saying I hear it all the time in football and basketball games and it is not a ejection from the game nor having to sit a game out. Just saying I think soccer players are held to a higher standard than others, of course our sport is better so maybe we should be /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  6. Glencliff 4 Antioch 0

    McGavock 4 Hunters Lane 0

Both teams controlled the game and each could have scored more and rested players. Our school sat out two starters who have recovered from injuries but the coach didnt want to rush them back in.

Finals at 6:00 at Glencliff Thursday

  7. QUOTE(Canesoverhere @ May 8 2007 - 02:21 PM) 826454573Some schools suspend players from school for Red Cards to enforce the severity of receiving one. Until every football player at the school who receives a penalty flag for unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct, or taunting recceives the same punishment, I will not support it.

This is my point exactly and no offense to the ref who posted, but the rules are so unequally enforced. A foul in one game is not in the next. A yellow card in one game isnt even a foul in the next. Players and coaches get very frustrated by the total inconcistencies out there. Can this be fixed..I dont know...but to suspend players for a hard foul. Like was posted what about personal fouls in basketball and football. Do they sit out a game...no. How about the fact that many refs now will not even speak to a player/coach to let him even question a call. I've heard many times a coach or player being told to shut up. At the district tourney last night a fan yelled at the ref about a " bad call" on two occasions. The ref had him ejected from the game. I was just watching the game and not even involved but I thought it was really weak to eject him. Geez in basketball they would have to clear the stands. Okay enough rant. Is reffeing a thankless job...yes, is it well paid...eh I disagree a little $55 for 2 hours isnt horrible( not great either), do refs need to lighten up on red cards...absolutely. I think they should always reach for yellow execpt in extreme cases. Just my opinion.

  8. QUOTE(BigG @ May 8 2007 - 10:17 AM) 826454327It is the ref's responsibility to report the incident. Most schools usually will take action after the fact (I know ours does). There is a fine for a coach being red carded... $100+

Also keep in mind it is easier to get ejected in soccer than any other sport. In football if you push another player you might get a flag, in soccer you'll likely get red carded. Cussing on the field, hear it all the time in football games. In soccer yellow or red ( yes we had a player that said f-you to another player last year get a red card) How about a hard tackle from behind..red card. Illegal hit in football, a flag. Soccer players and coaches are held to a higher standard already than other sports. Watch a football or basketball game and see how much talk occurs between the ref and coach. In soccer a coach can argue one call and get a yellow. If anything TSSAA needs to have officials lighten up on red cards not increase them.

    Central now 6-0

As the one person ( yes Glencliff 20 is me also ) who gave Wislon Central credit( "a nobody in soccer" I beleive someone said) I expect a bunch of "you were right, they are much better than we thought " /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  11. QUOTE(Carolina_Bo4JC @ Apr 15 2007 - 06:09 PM) 826438075I don't really see how Wilson Central is ranked below Glencliff when Central beat them 2-1 to give them their only loss of the season.

Well the good news is Wilson Central plays Hendersonville this week. If they win that game it wont matter they were ranked lower cuz they'll jump a lot of teams. If they dont then they would have dropped anyways. I give full credit to WC for winning the game but I think we had the better team. Our goalie just made a few mistakes that he hasnt made all year and they got some easy goals. But it doesnt matter, polls mean nothing until later in the year. I actually hope WC wins as that makes us look even better. We should have beaten Lavergne but tied and then they tied Gallatin and beat hendersonville. We lose to WC and if thet beat hendersonville then that loss doesnt seem so bad either. Our focus though is on winning all we have left and the distrcit, if that gets us ranked higher then great, if not then we'll see Brentwood/Ravenwood or whoever from that side in the regionals and can find out if we are as good as we think.

  12. QUOTE(NedNatterjack @ Apr 10 2007 - 01:51 PM) 826434029This is not right. A couple of years ago I received a "soft" red in a district semifinal game in which we lost. We were able to sub, but since there were no other soccer games, I had to sit out the next TSSAA santioned sport which was our first football game!

Cant say for sure but your school must have done this and not TSSAA. They are two seperate sports, I dont see how they could keep you out of football for what happened in soccer. Also a soft red does not have next game suspension. Only a straight red does. So two yellows and your out for that game and can sub in a player. Straight red and you are out for that game and at least the next, school can add more time if they choose to.

  13. We (Glencliff) hosted them tonight and they have a very good team. Play very physical and have some solid players. We jumped out to a 1-0 half lead but let in two ( what our team would call) bad goals. One miscommunication between keeper and fullback where neither played the ball and their guy poked it in. The other where our sweeper had a swing and a miss and their guy walked in uncontested to the goalie. But you cant have those mistakes in tough games or you'll lose. We'll learn from this hopefully and come back even stronger. Again congrats to WC and good luck.

  14. QUOTE(LHSJH11 @ Apr 3 2007 - 10:51 AM) 826428891yeah im a lavergne player.i didnt get to play against blackman.i wasnt able to.but i heard it was an ok game for us. we have the right players to do the job. its just if we really want it.but good luck YCF.ill see u on the field tonight.

The game ended in a 0-0 tie. I'd say we(Glencliff) had the best opportunities the first half with a few good looks. The beginning of the second half was fairly even. By the end of the game Lavergne had the best looks with several direct and indirects right at the box ( darn refs /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ). We were a bit tired with two starters out tonight and our bench doesnt go super deep. Lavergne definately has a good team with some solid players and I wish them good luck the rest of the season.

  15. QUOTE(BlackmanSoccerDad @ Apr 3 2007 - 08:14 AM) 826428743First off, I know a few kids on this team and they are good players. They are also not the type of players who like to talk about themselves. As far as how good they are, I think that is yet to be determined. When they played Blackman, yes we dominated, couldn't put it in the back of the net. However, you can't tell anything about preseason. For instance, most people probably didn't know they were missing two key midfielders when they played Blackman. Would it have made a difference, who knows. I know LaVergne has some talented players, so until someone proves otherwise, which pre-season doesn't count, they are a pretty good team IMO.

Well we play them tonight at Glencliff. Both teams are undefeated right now and we usually have really good games with them so I am excited to play. Unfortunately our center mid got a hairline fracture in his collarbone the other day so we will be without him, but we have good subs so we adjust like any team does. I'll write back tomorrow and let you know what I think about them. I suspect they have a good team though and they have a good coach from what I heard so should be fun. Hope the rain stays away /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  16. QUOTE(Cheamilion @ Mar 30 2007 - 10:22 AM) 826426480Last year we had a game, where one ref got stuck in traffic, and was a little late. But the other ref moved to Brazil, and didn't feel the need in telling any of us...

I'm just wondering. Is this a common problem?

Monday we played at Stratford and one official was 25 minutes late. We started the game without him. He showed up about 20 minutes into the game. Our coach told him after the game he was going to turn him in for being late as this has happened before with him. The official refused to give the coach his name. Our coach just asked the other coach and got it( it was their home game) The funniest part was the official turned the coach into TSSAA for " yelling at him and coming at him in an aggresive manner and said the coach yelled at him until he finally had to leave". All the players on both teams and the other coaches were around as this was at mid field and this never happened. He basically lied to the TSSAA probably because he knew our coach was turning him in. I have heard its hard to get enough officials but guys like him that show up late like this and then make up wild stories should not be officiating. I think our coach was getting witness statements to send into TSSAA that prove the ref was lieing. By the way I know there are some good refs out there but TSSAA really needs to find a system to control the bad ones. We won easily by the way so it wasnt a sour grapes thing for losing.

  17. Okay at end of game we play a thru ball. Our player gets it and is all alone. Nears top of box and keeper is coming out and then...ref blows whistle and says game over right as he is starting to shoot. Player makes shot but it was about 2 seconds after whitsle. Now the goal didnt matter, we were up 5-1 and had scrubs in but maybe I've just missed it but has anyone ever been in a game with a player going one on one with a goalie and the refs stopping it? Seems to me you let play continue in that situation..of course this ref was 20 minutes late to the game so why should expect him to stay an extra 10 seconds. Was very weird.

  18. QUOTE(shoehp @ Mar 23 2007 - 02:03 PM) 826421101Turner @ Bearden - 4 state Championships, 1 National Chanpionship

    Gerlack @ CAK - 4 State Championships

Culbret @ Farragut - 2 State Championships, 1 National Championship

Just to bring up a counterpoint, does winning state titles mean you are a great coach? Can you be a great coach and not win state? I think there are certain teams with so much talent that naturally comes to their school that I think many coaches could take that team to state( please dont think I'm putting down those coaches as I'm sure many are great coaches) There are other teams that might win the district with less talent because the coach does an awesome job getting the most out of his players. His team might lose when it reaches the powerhouses in the region but does that make him any less a great coach? In high school it seems the coach is limited by what the feeder schools send him. A great coach with a team without talent can only go so far, whereas a great team with an average coach can probably still go very far. Just something to kick around. And again not trying to take anything away from the coaches of the big tme soccer programs, I'm sure they do make the difference in getting to state and winning it.

  19. QUOTE(BHS23 @ Mar 7 2007 - 09:21 PM) 826404215ok so they have matured and will be better this season, i take your word on that and that they've gotten better. i'm just sayin they aren't on the list as of right now b/c of their record last season....best of luck to them and hope they make it on the list this season

Preseason records mean nothing really. Yea there are some teams that we know will be great but many teams rankings are based on previous reputation. If your team does well you'll be in the polls at the end..when it counts. My school (Glencliff) is not mentioned at all either and neither is McGavok yet Antioch is based on last years results. I think anyone in our district would put us both ahead of Antioch this year, they lost a lot to graduaton. I dont make a stink because we play some of the teams on that list. If we win we move up, if we dont we have no reason to complain anyways.

  20. Only in America can you get blasted for singing the National Anthem.

Interestingly enough neither Antioch not Glencliff choose to play the National Anthem before games or display the American flag.

You folks need to get over it.

As for displays of unsporting behavior, it happens, it isn't the norm, but it happens. Talk a little bit more about the positive things that go on.

For all of our "guests" in this country, please be thankful you have the ability to express yourselves without worry about negative repercussions or punishment.

It was a tough hard fought game between two good soccer teams, lets leave it at that.

Soccer is a whole different thing in Metro. We dont have the support at our schools to even get gate workers half the time, much less enough people to do the National anthem. The band plays it for football games, but obviously they are not there for soccer. We dont have announcers for the pregame or anything like that. I would love it but the parent involvement is just not there. Just like we would like to have a soccer field and not a football field converted to soccer. We do the best we can. There is no offense by the anthem though as its not ever played because of lack of man power. I know our coach does almost everything for the team. Handles all fundraisers, marks the field, gets officials checks, doesnt even have a game administrator most of the time. Maybe one day soccer will get the respect in Metro schools it deserves. It was a good game from what I hear and I hope both teams do well in the sectionals.

    YCF

  21. Yes id like to reiterate what goal!! said that is not a representation of the program in the least bit. Also there shouldn't be anything wrong with singing the national anthem it has been tradition for years so it in no way was intending to be offensive to anyone. But Antioch was a good team and showed class on the field which is hard to find nowadays

We played Brentwood last year in the regional finals as well and our team is very similar to Antiochs. We have about 7 countries represented on our team. I will not paint the whole program with a broad brush but they were having senior night last year and during the game about 100 kids came out and lined the fence. They shouted all kinds of racial things at our team. "Go home wetbacks" was common and one student was even yelling about killing one of our players. The game administrator finally had to remove the whole group of students. By the way our fans at the Cliff can say some bad things too so I wont act like were so much better. I'd just ask all spectators to cheer for your team and leave the comments about the other teams alone. Yelling at the refs is always good though :thumb:

    YCF

  22. yes 3-1 is correct 1 great shot in the first overtime and a break away in the 2nd overtime but a great intense game moorad and phane got red carded from rhs and #17 from Antioch threw a punch at someone and got a red

Well not to pat my own back but I believe I said that Antioch could win this one :thumb:

The player for Antioch that got the red was a very good player and that will be a big problem against Brentwood.

    YCF

  23. "They" didn't say anything, as that wasnt a ravenwood player's comment. please try not to talk smack about last year when you didnt even make it out of your district this year.

First of all I was not talking smack and you should not jump to conclusions so fast. The "they" I was referring to was people on this board who commented on that game. I have no idea what school "they" were from. Just making a point that for years everyone has totally discounted the schools from Nashville(with good reason) and we have gotten much stronger. I promise you that Antioch is better than you think. We played them 3 times this year, in finals of tournament and in the districts. They have some great players and no I'm not saying Ravenwood doesnt because obviously they do as well. I am simply saying if you think Ravenwood will show up and beat them 4-0 I think you are wrong. My opinion and thats all it is. Come tomorrow I might be eating my words and if so I'll gladly post here and admit I was wrong. Will you be man enough to do the same if its not 4-0? :)

As for us not making it out of the districts, that is totally true. We lost 4 starters due to injuries and we dont have the depth a lot of teams had. So we lost some games we shouldnt have...end result we had to play Antioch in the semis, where once again our best player was out...this time because he was a moron and got a red card. But all teams get injuries and we finished were we finished. So I agree we have no reason to talk smack and I totally wasnt. I was defending Antioch and reminding people not to just pencil in an all Williamson county final. Our district is not as weak as it was in the past.

Good luck to your team as I have no ill feelings toward your school.
