  1. I have tried a second spot, and it worked out better than the first. It just caught me off-guard that fans would openly not only criticize, but cuss players and coaches in the stands. Believe me, my involvement with high school athletics over the years (I have four sons who played high school sports) has taught me someone is always ready to second-guess coaches (and I have been second-guessed many times myself as a coach). I guess it was a bit easier for me to not come to games, since I am not a native Henry Countian. I did, however, choose to move here, so I will try not to let a few blow-hards bring me down. As for this week, the Patriots should win easily, but if I remember correctly, struggled some early against this same team last year. GO BIG RED!
  2. Amen to that. I moved here from another football loving area. My first games experience at a Patriots game sickened me so much I can't bring myself to go to another Pats game, even though I want to be a big supporter for the program. I have never seen such rude, obnoxious people in all my life. I know the Patriots have a lot of great fans, but a few nut jobs really dampened my enthusiasm.
  3. I will say what I have thought all year- Henry County is just not a state-championship quality team. There is lack of chemistry on this team, and the overall talent level (not just because of the loss of Maralis and Dominique) is down from last year.
  4. Jay McAdams did a fine job stepping up last night when given the opportunity. Overall, though, there is just something missing from this team. I know the Patriots are undefeated, but they just don't impress me. They do the job well enough every week to win, and there is something to be said for that. I just don't see this squad anywhere near the semi-finals this year. I could be wrong, and hope I am.
  5. Location is the key to pitching, no doubt. But a located 87-88 MPH fastball is not the same as a located 75 mph fastball. Velocity is nothing without location, but nothing takes the place of velocity. And Maddux in his prime did throw 91-92, he just never was credited with having a good fastball because he was known for his control.
  6. Never said that player wasn't a team player. I said too many of the upperclassmen were not team players. As far as that incident goes, the way it was handled was the reason that some later incidents in the game were not handled. I was surprised- never saw that type of blow-up from him before. I don't think less of him as a person or player- my statement was that was the impetus behind some other incidents occurring that night. And I will assure you I have been around Crockett County baseball many years and have been shocked the past couple of years with some of the behavior on the field and comments in the stands.
  7. Too many upperclassmen playing for themselves instead of the team. Most have had positions just handed to them all of their lives instead of earning them. The problem in the Munford game stemmed from the fisrt player's dad is in the dugout, so nothing gets said. After that, how can you say something to the next offender? Problems are getting better, and wii be much better next year when Coach Foust is rid of his senior class. (Not implying all seniors have caused problems). I must say I was embarrassed at the game that night and quite surprised how things were (not) handled, but I am seeing some changes now.
  8. Uh....I saw Jordan when he was with Birmingham. If he had not been away from the game for several years, he would have played at the big league level. He had amazing physical skills....just was not consistent enough.
  9. Along with tennis and soccer...
  10. AGREED...AGREED...AGREED
  11. Never mind...I missed the post right before this one. Still seems a bit odd, though.
  12. Ok... I understand SBEC might play in Tennessee because that is whre it was located before moving to Southaven, MS. But hasn't Fayette Academy always been in Fayette County in Tennessee? how did they play in a Mississippi private division? By the way, I'm not trying to stir anything up. I am just curious.
  13. He can be fired if the school board chooses to do so. It doesn't take parents complaining to oust a coach.
  14. #1- I never said that out of control teams outnumber teams under control #2- I have stated before in other threads that I have coached through 15-year old, but not high school #3- Ignorant? I have seen abot 15 different teams this year, and have attended high school games for over 20 years. Lack of discipline on the field carries over to academics and daily life. I am glad that most coaches in the West TN area have control over their teams. My point is this- you cannot unquivocally state that 99% of teams do not have some type of problem in attitude or conduct. I am thankful every time I see a coach from any program "take the bull by the horns" so to say. And I agree that coaches are having to teach life lessons that should be taught by parents who still have not learned them. Believe it or not, I think we agree a lot more than we disagree. I just refuse to put my head in the sand and pretend that all coaches have complete control of their programs. I am thankful for those who do and offer them my gratitude.
  15. Like I said...."most". Our HS team has football players and basketball players on it as well. But there are a ton of kids who played baseball through age 13-14 who have quit baseball to play football or basketball exclusively. Many of these are the top athletes in the school. Jst MHO
