  1. OK, If Bradley's finalist win all their matches than they are the traditional champs, Correct. I thought it was an great article about a great program but after reading it my mind set was that Bradley has been the Might Bear that folks have been wanting to seen beat for a long time. If the other teams top kids didn't come thru in the finals the Bears win. That's all! Not taking anything away from SD but reminding folks other kids from other programs had to come thru to make that happen. Bradley C and SD have great programs and great kids. I was one of the ones cheering for the SD kids knowing that they had the only shot to take down the Mighty Bears. If those two teams meet 10 times in a season it would probably go 50/50 with the tie breaker going to Bradley.
  2. Thanks for the history. I've done a few papers on NB Forrest and was a Forrest Raider in College. Still don't get the name Rockets but it does make you stand out. Your Young man wrestled well inn the finals.
  3. All I was trying to say, is it took more than just the SD team to take down Bradley. Did SD not loose to Bradley in the Duals. Enough said. Both programs are the top 2 in D-I. I just wanted to point out if the pack didn't come thru no championship for SD. Coward? Never had that word throw at me but it's a word not a fact. I'm sure I've had my metal tested more times than you have called someone a Coward. Great Season for both teams. Again not saying anything negative about either program, just giving some other programs some credit.
  4. Hey were U at the Big River Grill last night in Chattanooga?
  5. Here's one I couldn't understand at 215. I saw Ian Merrideth beat the SD this year. How was the SD kid higher ranked than Ian?
  6. Is Coffee going to Pittsburg to wrestle in the Nationals?
  7. Congrats to all the finalist and State placers This is how are Region 2 teams finished: Congrats to Kingston, I think that is their highest finish in school history. 8. Kingston (Kston) 52.5; 14. Maryville (Mary) 46.5; 23. Farragut (Farr) 34; 25. Knoxville Halls (KHalls) 31 32. Union County (UnionC) 25.5 40. William Blount (WB) 21 50. Karns (Karns) 11 If Seymour was allowed to wrestle I think we could have had 5 teams in the top 25! Not bad.
  8. Great coaching job by SD but Now the "rest of the story" without a pack of Irish, Commandos, Mustangs, and Red Devils you would not have that title, so give those Champions some credit. Besides the State duals what was the record between Bradley and SD this year? Great Article: It would have been easy after Friday night for Soddy-Daisy's Trojans to fold their tent after falling behind to rival Bradley Central in the Division I state wrestling tournament. Not so fast. In the hospitality room late Friday night, Soddy-Daisy coach Steve Henry was pretending to be a mathematician. He said there was still a plan that would lead the Trojans to the glory land. On Saturday morning, in the same hospitality room, Henry met with his team. "I picked up a card at the table and threw it down,'' Henry said. "I told them the cards were on the table. "Then I told them what they had to do to win the tournament. I told them where we were points-wise and what they had to do.'' When the final horn sounded Saturday night after Ryan Fuller and Tyler Roberson had won individual titles, it was Soddy-Daisy with 187.5 points and Bradley with 170. The Trojans had finally won their state traditional title. "We stunk it up today,'' said Henry, whose teams have won two duals titles. "This is the ultimate.'' Jeannie and wrestling guru Danny Gilbert each tried to tell Henry on Saturday morning that winning the state championship was not everything. "I know that because I have a great wife and two great kids,'' Henry said. "But you have to have goals. That's what we teach these kids. "I'm so proud of every kid on this team. Every one of them scored a point. It was an absolute team effort. They all earned the championship.'' "I've still got chill bumps,'' Fuller said after climbing down from the awards podium. "I'm pretty pleased because in the duals we let down our coaches, the fans and all of Soddy-Daisy. This is a great way to end the season.'' Said Roberson, "It was awesome to see coach Henry get his first plaque. This team is so tight. I love them all. And this is so great we got this championship before Ryan leaves. "But next year, we'll try again. It will be tough losing Ryan, but we have a lot more who can step up. I think we could have even more champions next year.'' When Soddy-Daisy clinched the championship after a Bradley loss in the finals, Henry said it was tough to believe. Did he shed a tear? "I got choked up,'' he said. "I didn't turn the tears lose. Not yet, anyway.'' Final Team Scores: 1. Soddy-Daisy 187.5 2. Bradley Central 170
  9. The best 215 match was Merrideth vs Reviez. In person these were not close. Reviez controled his match and did all the work. I think I saw the SD wrestler shoot one time. They used the same plan at the SD Tourney. "Don't wrestle against Reviez look for the double leg shoot, underhook and hope to win in the final round with an escape." IMO- the SD coaching sttaff is one of the best in the State, I have enjoyed watching them over the years produce great Champs. However, Cutting Reviez with that much time on the clock when ther kid had not scored on Reviez in 2 matches wasn't the best coaching move I've seen in a while. I guess they were counting on stalling calls. The Vandergriff match was exciting. The Bradley kid went after Big John. Something that did not hapeen in the 215 match. I understand 1 stalling call but not 2.
  10. In D-1 this year kids who were Champions, in the finals, and others who placed at state last year never made it to Friday. This years new bracket system in D-I stinks. There has to be changes. To many quality wrestlers not getting a second chance.
  11. IMO-with the Seymour kids missing it showed how dumb the system is. OK, how do we get these changes? Writing the TSSAA is a start but then what?
  12. Get'em Rusty! your right it's another reason we need changes. So what happens if a team get's a flat tire or run's into snow? you're kids worked hard and deserved a shot.
  13. Which county is Forrest High School from? How old is the School? Who is it named after. IF NB Forrest, then why not Raiders, Cav or some type of term relating to the past? Rockets sound like something from the 50's. BTW- The rocket on the front did make your young men stand out at state
  14. Since D-1 had a new format with additional teams and regions, I feel that the TSSAA has to look at a double elimination format. I know this has been a subject in the past but this year I think I saw more good wrestlers being beat in the second round by a point or 2 than their guy gets beat in OT or a point and good by State. Then some of the kids pulled back in are not the same caliber of the kids sent home. It has to stop being luck and let the best kids place. Just to save some smart remarks. No my kid was one of the ones pulled back in but I know there are better wrestlers that were sent home. Good luck to all the young men on Saturday
  15. R U sure about that? I thought they went against each other in a Tourney last year. Check last year. If not, then he was at the same Tourney's and never made to the finals to go against Reviez.
  16. Coffee wasa almost beat tonight by the McCallie wrestler. I think Reviex pinned him or dominated him last time the met. Coffee wouldn't be going for the gold in D-1.
  17. Another Region 2 grappler sends Minwell home without the gold. Minwell was overrated. So is Coffee who should have been taken to overtime tonight. IMO- he wouldn't be in the finals in D-1. Reviez has dominated the McCallie kid when they met.
  18. In the finals: 171lbs- Hall of the Rebs 189lbs- Morgan of UC 215- Reviez of the Ads Hvy- Big John of Halls Congrats to the big boys for keeping Region 2 in the finals. Caleb Leanord, Halls(Fr) ****Great year and tourney for a tuff freshman, Keep an eye out for this young man in the future, 275- Vandergriff- Hall (SR) HE CAN WIN IT ALL BUT WILL HAVE TO WRESTLE. Good win! He has the advantage against a light Hvy in the final.
  19. Only if he doesn't wrestle Reviez. Meaning Reviez has beat him at the SD tourney and he never made an offensive move until he was behind in the 3rd period. IMO- he has been told not to try an offensive move against Reviez and wait an counter his double leg. If thats their plan then it will be a boring final and Lettner will go two matches against the State Champ and show he dosn't have the back bone to wrestle him.
  20. Someone made a wrong turn and got lost. Tuff break! Their kids could have made some noise at state.
