  1. Bearden lost to Greeneville without their All State starting center who signed with ETSU and also without there starting point guard. They started 2 freshmen in their place. Experience does count and Bearden was up 49-30 in the 3rd qtr. One player is back and they other should be back in a week. I've seen all these teams play as well. If Bearden were to play Greeneville while healthy the game would be a double digit win. I stick true to my statement because i'm sure you haven't seen Bearden healthy.

  3. Not in your lifetime and don't flatter yourself! Sorry, the truth hurts and I do have 40+ years of personal experience with the Greeneville "ego" - by the way I was born at Laughlin Hospital and Dr. Hal Henard (your gym's namesake) was my personal physician for many years. I will not respond to any more posts. Let's see if Greeneville and their players can match what you Greeneville fans boast.

    Logging out.......................

Pretty sad for a person of your apparent age to talk about a 17 year old kid . . . Perhaps a few more years of experience will do you good. Not 6"- who cares, she dominates. And to say she doesn't have heart. She is just not an "in your face" player.

  4. Okay, let's get some things cleared up as I have personally watched this team play several times this year. First Dickson is only 5'11" to 6' - no more. Collins is 6'1" at the most. Comparing Dickson to Candace Parker is just wrong in so many ways. Dickson is a good player but seems to lack a good work ethic and heart. How many games has she scored 20-30 points? I have witnessed her being held to much fewer points. I can not envision her as a large Division I college recruit from what I saw this year. I have also watched her play AAU ball and she is by no means the star of the team. By the way, we from East Tennessee are accustomed to the constant bragging and inflation of the Greeneville team from their fan base. Good team...yes. Best team in the state...I doubt it. Greeneville can and has been beat this year by teams less talented than the Millington team.

Nicole is a good kid who works hard at improving her game. She doesn't hoot, holler or show-boat like so many other players. She averaged 18 points a game this year whilst routinely being double and triple teamed.

The poster who compared Nicole to Candace Parker was not comparing their respective 'games' - the poster was merely comparing how they are used.

  5. TN High fans are truly amazing. I remember when Cody Baugh and the boys were seniors headed to the Stone Castle. Result - 41-0 Greeneville. I remember when TN High played Maryville a few years ago. The talk was that TN High was the best team its school had fielded since some team from the late 60s or early 70s. Result - I'm not sure of the exact score but I think Maryville just scored again.

TN High has some mighty big wounds to lick. In fact, it may take all of Bristol to get the job done. Heck, they might even need some help from the Virginia side.

And to TNtnntn or whatever his monicker is - are you okay? You were posting like a madman about how G'ville's season would be over when it played TN High. I can tell you never played sports on a competitive basis b/c of the fact that you refused to acknowledge Volunteer. And if you did play sports, you were obviously not successful.

In the end, I wish I could have seen the faces on TN High's players, coaches, parents . . . and heck, even their concession stand workers after Volunteer took them down.

  6. Congratulations Lady Bulldogs! What a ride this has been. I want to take this time to thank Coach Turner and Coach Radcliff for the opportunity they gave my daughter. Before August of 2006, we had never been near a soccer field and Bearden needed a goalie. They asked my daughter and she said she would try. She asked Coach Turner if maybe she should have someone try to help her learn the game and he just told her to keep the ball out of the back of the net...he didn't care what it looked like or how she did it! The girls on the Bearden team rallied around her. They protected her goal and helped her gain confidence as each game passed. By the time they reached the state last year, I don't think anyone would have looked at her and imagined this was her first year playing the game. Coach Turner never allowed her to believe she couldn't do the job. My daughter has been in athletics for years. Good coaches, bad coaches...Turner is by far the best, most knowledgable, motivating coach we have seen. He produces winners. From day one these girls were told they could win the state. It didn't matter last year or this year that they were young and inexperienced. He believed in them and they believed in him. These classy young women, as well as their parents, rallied around my daughter and we can't begin to tell you how proud we are of everything she and this team has accomplished the last two years. I have a new found respect for this sport and think the girls that play it are the toughest athletes I have seen. I just wanted to publicly thank Coach Turner, all the athletes that I have seen play these 2 years and especially my daughter, for saying yes! Thanks for the great memories /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

Congrats to Bearden from a Greeneville fan. We have enjoyed playing you the last 2 years in substate even though things didn't go our way. You have a good group of kids who play lights out for their coach. There are several teams (and coaches) out there who should take note of your physical yet fair play. Bearden has proven that you don't have to act like a bunch of goons on the pitch to have a winning program.

  7. Bearden just reloads every year.

But who does Greeneville lose? I know from talking to a parent they have a bunch of freshman. Of their starters, who is leaving?

Patience Leonard (No. 23), Devan McIntyre (No. 24), Claire Duncan (No. 1), Michelle Meade (No. 6) and Mackenzie Payne (No. 32).

  8. Just wait until Oak Ridge travels to Science Hill. OR better hope it doesn't have that group of bozos that officiated the Greeneville - Science Hill match last night. The little dark haired guy (looks like a younger version of Mr. Bean) is particularly dangerous.

  9. CAK outplayed us, they are very good, our girls have a lot to learn and the only way they can learn it is against the best. My hat's off to CAK, even in sloppy conditions they adjusted well and were able to find the back of the net. I thought we needed to play amazing and have CAK play poorly to have a chance for the win and they wouldn't have it. I'd be very suprised if they didn't repeat. Very strong program, like anyone neede me to say that. But I have to mention some praise for our girls. This was a rebuilding year that we began not knowing if we would have enough to even field a team when we started training. Suddenly, a bunch of young players started showing up and we ended with the largest roster we have had since I have been there. This is only our 6th season of having soccer at Alcoa and we were much less skilled than other teams we have had here. I am very proud to have been part of this team. WELL DONE LADIES!!!!

It certainly says something that a small school like Alcoa has students willing to build a program. We have a couple of 1,000 student plus schools in NE Tenn that can't come close to fielding teams.

  10. Wow... outlawing slide tackles. How about outlawing coaches that don't teach the right technique instead? That is like saying outlawing blocking or tackling in football because some people chop block or tackle with their helmets first. It is all about proper instruction. Just like the whole thread on weight training. If you are instructed correctly to slide tackle or to weight train, then both are a good asset to the sport.

If a coach doesn't know how to instruct how to slide tackle, bring in an instructor that does. I am sure that there are plenty of ex college players or current college players that would help demonstrate. Or if not, go through the NSCAA coaching license course and get educated.

The last thing we need is more rules and regulations coming from the TSSAA or FIFA. Good refs can get a handle of the game very early and very quickly.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Slide tackling is simply part of soccer. I believe good refs can keep "bad" slide tackling in check with pre-match "warnings" concerning bad technique and by flipping those little colored cards from their pockets. We assume only "good" refs call matches, however.

Near the end of the season, I can honestly say that I have been impressed with the level of officiating - for the most part. For illustration purposes only, the Greeneville - Elizabethton match last night featured a sorry excuse for an official in the middle. One team was up by several goals near the end of the match and he (the sorry excuse) consistently allowed dangerous slide tackling from behind even after a player went out with an injury. This official in particular has consistently lost control of each match I have seen him call to the detriment of several players. Again, I have been impressed with the level of officiating this year (win.lose or tie)but what do you do about the occasional rogue official who is ignorant of proper slide tackling techniques (in my opinion) and fails to protect players?

  11. Give the person a break. If he wants to be excited about their team winning a big game then go for it. It is no worse then some of the other post listed. Have you seen the scores post lately? Lot more then scores being posted.

If Coach T has NO PROBLEM THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM! /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

I didn't mean to offend your sense of decency.

  12. Maybe it doesn't really matter what impresses me, you or anyone on this board. I am sure the JV players that scored were thrilled they had the opportunity, oh, whoops, I forgot it isn't supposed to be about them is it?

I don't recall saying it wasn't about "them" - the players. If beating up on a weak opponent is what gets you fired up as a parent, then more power to you. We'll see how much the 10-0 score prepares Powell for districts soon enough.

  13. I am sure if I said the Coach told them to make 8 passes you would have said they needed to make 16 passes. As far as working on skills, that is what they did. Considering only 5 of the goals were scored by Starting Varity players, 2 by a Varsity player off the bench, and the rest by JV players I think the girls did fine. Besides you have JV girls that only get to play a limited number of games, and very limited amount of time in Varsity games, how are they going to improve if they don't work hard while they get the opportunity?

I certainly wasn't trying to be critical. I just found it sort of strange that your coach said, "hey let's lay off" by stringing together 4 passes and shooting from the 18. Who cares if the score is 1-0 or 15-0 except maybe the parents and the player who scores 5 goals a match against weak opponents? I assure you that soccer skills can be developed without having to take a shot on goal. For example, is it more impressive for a player to beat a weak defense and weak keeper 1 on 1 or is it more impressive for a young player to show her coach that she can receive a pass with control, dribble through a defender or two with alternating touches, and then change fields? Maybe the first scenario is what impresses you.

  14. 'm not sure that formula would reduce the lop-sided score, I would think it would contribute to it....

Agreed. How 'bout playing the ball back to the defense, stringing together 8 passes, shooting only with non-dominant leg, scoring off of headers only, etc. All of this still allows the girls to play the game all the while working on specific skills. Why was the game called ?

  15. OR outshot Greenville 14-5. Among OR shots were 5-6 serious threats including one off the post. Among Greenville shots was 1 serious threat, which resulted in a goal.

Greenville has a very fine team and appears to be well coached. The defensive back line and goal keeper were impressive. I would guess at least a couple of them will or can play in college. They used a trapping defense which was effective. They had a midfielder (#6) who stood out as well.

OR played well, after not playing so hot last week in the last game of the Katie Hunter tourney. Three of their midfielders (#24, #3, and #10) caught my eye, although it was their senior star (T. Howell) who scored on a breakaway (assisted by the GK I believe).

Nice field, nice night, nice soccer.

I too was there and I thought it was a great match. Your stat of 14 -5 shots in favor of OR comes from the OR website. While OR did have more quality looks than Greeneville , the 14-5 shot stat is inflated - in my opinion.

Greeneville is still looking for the right combination of players. Greeneville has played 8 matches with 8 different starting line-ups I believe.

Greeneville did a nice job with Trenna up until her goal. Hopefully, these 2 teams will meet up again in sub state (hopefully at Greeneville of course).

  16. Firstly I have helped coach at Chuckey Doak. I was under the impression that SG have played for more than one year as I have watched them play and offiated one game between the two - although I could be wrong.

The players you mention as 'club players' have only had limited exposure to the club scene and as far as I am aware do not play anymore - the fact you know these players somehow and claim that several of CD's players have the ability to play at Greeneville Galaxy suggests to me that you are involved with them in some capacity. Your praise for SG also makes me think you are linked to them somehow?

Anyhow playing the right way in my eyes is playing to your strengths. A win is a win no matter how it is obtained. Knowing your team and knowing how it functions best is the mark of a good coach and at CD they know the limitations and play to them. The coach, although not having a soccer background has a great understanding of the game and you do not have to had played at a high level to be a good coach. Look at Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho........ Coach Ricker has implemented a strong system and the girls and she understand it very well.

To Woodeng if you would like a schedule I will gladly send you one.

If anyone wants my credentials or doubts my ability to comment on this matter please leave a note and i will gladly leave them.

I think soccer67 is a Greeneville High fan.

PS - can you please post your credentials?

  17. I believe they were originally scheduled to play Thursday but the game was moved before the official schedule came out. Greeneville plays at Dobyns Bennett on Saturday. Greeneville's coach is out against Farragut because of a red card during substate vs. Bearden last year. Should be a good match.
