  1. Take a look at my post in the Greeneville Takes on Powell thread - it gives my opinion on each player for G'ville.
  2. NtheKnow2 can dish it out but he can't take it. Take a look at his posts on this thread. You have to expect to eat some crow after talking all of that smack. Powell had a good year but they ran into a buzz saw last night. Everyone expected a competitive game but it really wasn't. Greeneville is backwoods? How 'bout those big old burly guys with buzz cuts sitting on the "fifty" last night and the way they were acting towards some of the Greeneville fans?
  3. Greeneville is really not even close to the team it was in November. But anyways, hopefully they can put another one together next Thursday. It will certainly be the challenge of a lifetime.
  4. Maybe you should advise Coach Duncan of your prediction. I'm sure he would save the Greeneville City School System a bunch of money and call in a forfeit. Better yet, I bet a dollar that Greeneville will still go ahead and give it a shot. You never know. After all, that's why they play the game.
  5. Your a trash talker and your just getting ribbed a little. It's all good. I'm sure Powell's players would be the first to admit that they were unprepared for Greeneville's style of play. Greeneville dominated the game, but everyone showed class at the end. That's all that matters. Were you even at the game? Greeneville has a decent team, huh?
  6. Your coachT name is a little misleading. I'm not sure if you are in the know because you certainly miss a lot. This is just one example of your posts I was referring to in the other thread. And you call me a jerk.
  7. I read your posts, buddy. What I know is this . . . Powell was over-matched.
  8. You mean after all that talking you didn't go to the game ? Powell was simply over-matched. Their guard play was weak and they had no post game. No. 33 was about all they had. Lee Smith is obviously a fantastic athlete, but he's not a basketball player. I think after tonight and the way Wiggins played him that he would be the first to admit this. The biggest thing that struck me was the lack of team speed and quickness exhibited by Powell. They were just so slow. Way to go Devils. Wiggins is simply the best basketball player in East Tenn. Moore and Anderson had great games. Washington, Boone and Allen played great defense. Heck, Lance Bailey even had a great lay-up. Great effort by all.
  9. From the way the Powell fans were talking on coachT I was expecting a little more. I wasn't very impressed with their team. No. 33 is about all they have. Lee Smith may be a fine football player, but he's obviously not a basketball player. I think he had 8 points. Powell was just too slow for Greeneville and their guard play was quite weak. And Powell had absolutely no post game as they were just too slow. How about Antwaine Wiggins - 22 pts, 11 rb, 4 blocks, 6 assts and 4 steals. He was unstoppable by the Powell big men although he was giving up quite a bit of weight. The other big guy for Powell (McGaha ?) only played a couple of minutes because he was obviously overmatched and too slow. In any event, go Devils. I hope the Powell faithful don't start claiming the game was unfair like in the other thread.
  10. I don't know if it was a team decision. It is my understanding that East would not allow West to play at East. This comes from a pretty reliable source high up in the food chain - but maybe he's wrong.
  11. Yes, the gym is at an elementary school but it is a decent gym. It holds close to 3000 or so.
  12. That is Wiggins' only weakness. He needs to add about 25 or so lbs. But, he did handle Wattad nicely when they were 1 on 1. Wiggins has a strong inside game but he hits about 40-45 % of his shots from 3 point land - so he can play anywhere on the floor.
  13. Oh yeah, I forgot to say one thing. Either way, Powell or Greeneville will have 2 teams at State. Impressive. Good luck to each team and the ladies as well.
  14. Ntheknow2 - I've got an answer to your question and several of my own. Help me out. Answer: No, last time I checked Wiggins was in a green colored jersey. Questions: 1. Who is the D1 basketball player for Powell you refer to ? 2. What is old school ball ? Is that like Princeton and the back door cut ? Or is that like Dr. J in the short-shorts ? 3. What do you mean by "position" players ? Are position players better than role players ? And what positions do position players play ? Thanks for the help. After all, you appear to be in the know.
  15. Antoine Wiggins (Jr., 6'7"). I believe he was coming off of knee surgery at that time. He is simply the best hs basketball player in East Tennessee. Of course, this is my opinion. Over the last 15 games or so he is averaging 20+ pts, 10 or so rebounds, 4 or 5 steals and 3 or 4 blocks a game. Ask DB, Science Hill, Red Bank, etc., who Wiggins is - they know. November basketball games don't really mean that much, do they. Finally, is Wiggins the D1 basketball player you are referring to ?
  16. Calling Lee Smith the "only decent center" Wiggins has seen all year may offend HTV. It may be safer for you to compare Lee Smith to Greg Oden. But in any event, Lee Smith is a gifted athlete. He will certainly pose match up problems for Greeneville. It will be interesting to see the defensive alignments each coach uses. I've heard the rest of Powell's team plays hard-nosed defense and I think the Powell-Bearden score is a little mis-leading. This will be a great match-up but I'll go with Wiggins and Co. in a close one.
  17. Do you even know what a "sleeper" is ? I'm not referring to him in the same way I might call you a sleeper. Unbelievable.
  18. Here come the whiners. Take a look at the Powell/Oak Ridge thread. They get clobbered by 24 or so by Bearden and they blame it on officiating. But, I wasn't there . . . right?
  19. He wasn't a nationally recruited player like many others from what I understand. He didn't receive tons of offers from top-flight D1 schools - again, from what I understand. With his size and athleticism, I can see him being a solid contributor in a couple of years - one of those players that is not nationally recruited yet makes a huge impact on the college level. Tennessee is lucky to have such a player and should have focused on more local recruits years ago. While Jason Witten was a highly rated recruit, was he nationally recruited by the likes of Miami or USC or Oklahoma, etc.? We know the rest of the story with Witten. Learn what a complement means, fella.
  20. My gosh, what brand of basketball does Powell play ? Their fans or whatever are constantly whining about "not letting us play" or "not letting the players play the game they usually do." What exact game is that ? It kind of makes you think. Also, do you really think players from other teams really care if Powell has a football player or 2 on its team ? Didn't seem to impress Bearden that much. From what I have heard, Lee Smith is a fine young man and fine football player. He sounds to be the "sleeper" in one of the lowest ranked Tennessee recruiting classes in recent memory. Do you really think a "playa" like Smith would concur with your whining? Doubt it. No, Eyeinthesky, I'm not saying you are whining . . . I'm just quoting your post as it relates to finesse (Bearden) vs. strength (Powell) or whatever other adjective you could use to describe Powell's play. Good luck to all Monday night.
  21. Greeneville beat Farragut in OT on last second 3 pointer by freshman Nicole Dickson. Way to go Lady Devils. Sadly, the Lady Devils weren't allowed to cut down the nets because of supposed "liability issues" - so says the Farragut brass. That's a new one. In any event, good luck next week Lady Devils and good luck next year Lady Admirals.
  22. No, I wasn't at the game. I was just making an observation that the worst officials in the world aren't worth a 24 point swing - in my opinion. I just think its sour grapes (for anyone) to say that a game wasn't fair when you lost by 24 pts. I dare say the vast majority of posters would agree with me. And I was also agreeing with you about the state of officiaiting. Maybe Powell had an off night, maybe all of the calls didn't go Powell's way, maybe Bearden outplayed Powell. I don't know and I don't care. I just think your original statement was a little silly.
  23. It's kind of hard to say the game wasn't played fairly with a 20 + point loss. But, officiating is weak and totally inconsistent from what I have seen. It's always funny when you have a ref 35 feet from the play call a foul and the ref on the ball does not. You just have to wonder sometimes.
  24. Wiggins - can hit from anywhere on floor. Great rebounder and defender. Has been averaging over 20 pts and about 10 rebounds a game over the last 10 - 15 contests. A selfless player as he could consistently score 30 + a game if he wanted. Deceptively quick at 6'7". An amazing talent who we may see play in the SEC in a couple of years. Anderson - at the point is not flashy but gets the job done. Shoots the 3 ball well and doesn't turn the ball over. A solid defender. Again, he just doesn't turn the ball over and runs the show like none other. Washington - not much of an offensive threat but very strong defender and rebounder. A very strong player who plays taller than his height of 6'3". A true team player who does all of the blue collar work. Boone - good ball handling skills and has been consistent from the 3 spot. Offensively, he has been struggling of late but had some early key baskets against DB. He is as quick as anyone to the basket. If he can find his stroke, G'ville may have fun at State. Knows the game like none other. Moore - a fantastic all around athelete. Can kill you from the 3 spot. He is a great rebounder who plays more like he is 6'6" or 6'7" and not 6'1". Has to have at least a 35" vertical. Words cannot explain the improvement Moore has made in his game over the last year. Although doesn't run the offense, has great ball handling skills.
