  1. Where is AAU participation up 75% in women's basketball? Tennessee? I'm not so sure about those stats. High school coaches are limited to their involvement during the summer by the T$$AA. I think there are several coaches that encourage their players to play AAU and get better. I certainly don't think they are all lazy bums... Give them some credit. In Tennessee we still have some women's games that are attended better than the men's. There aren't many, but there are some. I'm a believer in AAU. My daughters got better by playing it. I'm grateful to her AAU program and coaches. I'm also grateful to their high school coach. I'm sorry if your daughter is an a bad situation, but let's don't throw them all under the bus!

  3. Congratulations to Tennessee Team Pride 10u on winning the AAU National Championships in Disney! I understand they were down 21-11 at half time to come back to win 43-27. Congratulations to Team Memphis Elite for taking third!
  4. Each team tha plays AAU has a vote at the meetings. Very few people come to the meetings. I'm not sure the executive committe is the problem. I'm not sure how their make-up keeps other teams from playing AAU. While they and the chairman bring the agenda everything is voted on and they each have only one vote each. The agenda can be added to with a simple vote of the attendees. I do like the idea of a bigger state tournament. I understood when I asked the question there would be some to post what's wrong with AAU and I'm ok with that. I'd really like some help as to what can be done to make it better. Those may be so connected that its impossible to split them, but what will bring more teams to play AAU?
  5. AAU in Tennessee is considering some changes that may bring more games to participants. I know there are several travel teams that play in Tennessee but do not play AAU. If your team is not participating in AAU now, what would help influence you to participate in AAU?
  6. Congrats to all the teams! State Champ - TN Team Pride Gold 2nd - KGC Lady Pride 3rd - TN Glory 4th - Memphis Elite (Holmes)
  7. Congrats to all the teams! State Champs - TN Lady Trotters 2nd - TN Team Pride 3rd - TN Lady Tigers 4th - TN Voyagers
  8. NO, it's not about time. I'm glad he stayed. Maybe some of this "new blood" should show up at some of the meetings, there are only 2 a year. Don't criticize on a publice message board behind a screen name. If you think you can make it better, then come to the meetings and make it better! Commander -AKA Larry Vaughan
  9. Can't coach them until school is out. There is not a limit of the number of players on the same team. That only applies to fall league teams and there is is no more then 3.

  11. It looks like Peanut has decided to withdraw his resignation. That's very good news for Girls Basketball in Tennessee. I'm glad he decided to stay.
  12. Tennessee has the best girls program in the nation due to Peanut and Mary Ann Cummins and Bill and Ann Tipps. AAU loses an advocate for the girl players when Peanut leaves. No one in organized sports has been more fair and more responsive to all players and coaches than Peanut. We will miss his leadership, wisdom and honesty. Truly a sad day for girls basketball...
  13. We have room for a couple of more girls from middle Tennessee who are looking to get better over the spring and summer. Team based in Lebanon. Send an e-mail to kvaughan50@gmail.com

  18. Zac and Beth Stark will be coaching a 16 and 17 year old travel team for Tennessee Team Pride this summer. They will be looking for 8-10 juniors and 2-3 sophomores to play on the team. The focus will be on developing the skills of the players inside a team framework in order to allow them to play basketball at the college level (5 players off of the 2008 team have signed college scholarships). The team will practice in the Nashville area and play in numerous exposure events. If you are interested in your daughter playing on the team and would like Beth or Zac to evaluate her during the high school season, please send an email to bzstark@hotmail.com. Tryouts will be held after the high school season for those spots that remain open. Beth coached college basketball for 4 years (3 at Belmont University) and has coached with Team Pride for 4 years. Zac has been a coach with Team Pride for 5 years.
  19. I'm not sure I follow you. I understand losing intensity, but the loser of the coin flip will probably have to play Westmoreland again to get to the finals, the winner will not. Friendship had one fairly close game with Westmoreland and Gordonsville had 2. The winner of the flip is not guaranteed a trip to the district finals, but will have an easier route.

  21. Lady Cougars win 56-53. Good game on both sides. Gotta give it up to Katie Dunn from MTCS who scored 29. Lady Commanders could not find a way to stop her. Best of luck to both teams in their upcoming districts.
  22. A few of these girls play AAU together and are very good friends. One of the Friendship girls was coached by the MTCS coach and two of the assistants in AAU some recently and some several years ago. These teams know each other very well. This one will come down to who can execute the best.
