  1. Could you elaborate, please? Define very strong.
  2. Just run a 1:10 first lap and then pretend you are anchoring your 4x400 team. That should set you up pretty well. I know it is hard after a mile and not much rest, but remember that there will be much more time in the imporatant meets for recovery. Training yourself with little recovery at regular season meets will definitely pay off on May 10th. Happy trails.... I'm going to send Coach Parks the results from our meet tomorrow, so watch out for the "sick" factor. I actually don't even know if Clabo will run tomorrow. He was feeling pretty rough after 7.5 miles today and a busy week. I may put him in the 100 just to confuse everyone. Being a track coach is a lot like being a teacher...it's all about messing with minds.
  3. I definitely agree with your top picks. You have to be scared of Gilmartin and Vasquez. I would love to see Sonnenfeldt run it, but my gut instinct says he won't.
  4. who will come out on top in the 3200? i think a/aa east will be a battle, any other ideas?
  5. awesome. any competition or was it all you?
  6. Don't blame you. I would go to OR as well. I'll elaborate on the sick thing once we work out a few kinks.
  7. Once Clabo and Owens are gone, I may share some training secrets with you. Until then, just keep to the mantra of "long slow training produces really phenomenal runners." We're gonna be sick this year, Conig. Sure you don't want to transfer?
  8. With that kind of speed, you should work on your endurance. I bet you could run a 49 in 400 if you added a mile or two into your workout plan. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  9. we finished 4th at regionals and 6th at sectionals, with just three athletes competing. our team is huge this year. last year at state, we had a runner-up in the 3200, edged out by your own josh jaynes at the finish line. no disrespect, i just can't see you guys dominating without jj to score 40 points for you. best of luck.
  10. well, if you guys run half as well as your English department teaches, I'm sure you will win regionals, sectionals, and state. you may even may some noise on dyestat. may the best team win.
  11. All I'm saying is don't stoop to their level. Be better than they are.
  12. Show some class, please. Yes, Elizabethton is a tad over confident, but cut them some slack, they have a strong tradition of excellence and egos. We all have the best team in the state, right? Don't forget about sportsmanship and keep the boards clean.
  13. He has run the 3200, 1600, and 800 as well as the 4x400 in every major meet for the past 3 years. He hasn't been as successful in the 800(didn't even make a sectional qualifying mark his freshman year). His speed has improved a lot...ran a 56 4x400 split at Gibbs on Monday after a 2:05 split on the 4x800 and that 2:07 800. I know he wants the double title in 3200 and 1600, we'll wait and see about the possibility of the 800.
  14. yeah. i think he is a little burned out on the 3200 after indoor season. he's focused on speed right now. get scared. how are you doing conig?
  15. I'm not looking you over, I just think it will be hard to win a title without distance and field events. Sure, you have Jordan Ray in the shot, but what else do you have? A guy that high jumps 5'0"?
  16. 4x800 faster? very scary. best of luck. can't wait to meet y'all again. i just wish all of our girls could get healthy and injury-free. good luck.
  17. p.s. josh jaynes and jordan peters graduated.
  18. Does he have a brother, because there was a Moran listed on the score sheet? I'm glad to know you guys were holding back...I was worried for you. Especially in the girls 4x800.
  19. Just got back from a meet with Pigeon Forge, Cosby, and Cocke Co. GP won by 102 points (without completing the 300 hurdles, discus, or triple jump due to rain). Clabo only ran two events: the 1600 in 4:35 and anchor of 4x400, 3:57 (same team ran a 3:49 on Monday). Things are coming together nicely for the highlanders. Ryan Robertson won the shot with a throw of 43'5". Bo Owens won the 3200 easily with an 11:22 and then went on to win the 400 in 56.12 and the 200 in 24.69 before running the 4x400. These were the only 3 competitors we had at sectionals last year and finished 6th. Just wait until we are fully loaded. Jeremy Jester is on track to be a strong contender in the high jump. 5'8" on Monday at Gibbs (I made him stop after he won at 5'2" today). He also won the 200 on Monday, beating Mitchell Moran from CAK(2nd at sectionals last year). He crashed on 110 hurdles today, so I made him call it quits for the day. Our 4x800 team ran a 9:03 on Monday and Clabo rocked a 2:07 800. I'm not trying to be like Elizabethton and talk trash, I just want everyone to be prepared. Happy Running!
  20. His best events are the 400(:51) and long jump(20ish)/triple jump(40ish). I think he is high jumping about 5'6" right now and hurdling around 16. Last year at sectional decathlon he ran a 4:44 1500 never having trained for it. Believe me, he's very good.
  21. As far as decathlon goes, my money is on Ryan Williamson from Seymour. He finished second at state last year, only learning to pole vault the week before. He had a fantastic indoor season running with Knoxville Track Club. He will win.
  22. East girls should be tough. CAK is hands down the team to watch. I think their team last year was all freshmen and sophomores. I hope my memory serves me incorrectly. Plus, that time is sick...I wish I had boys that could run that fast! /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  23. didn't you guys have a hella tight girls 4x8 last year. maybe i'm dreaming, but i swear i thought you did. and by the way, duble could probably run all four legs and go to state.
  24. That's great. We haven't gotten much speedwork done this week. We have two meets next week. Monday will be tough. Gibbs, CAK, Lenoir City, Carter, Karns, and Pigeon Forge. It will definitely be the ultimate test of what we are starting with. Thursday should be a cake walk with Pigeon Forge and Cocke Co. I'd say everyone will be doing just two events on that one. Good luck. How's your girls 4x800 team looking?
  25. interesting you should point that out. i have found that doing a 3200-4x800-1600 is a lot more effective in big meets due to the increase in heats. in small dual and triangular meets, you kill yourself because there is not enough recovery. something that might help you. at a lot of meets i tell bo to do a short workout where he runs the anchor 4x800, then the open 400, the open 800 and the 4x400. this is great for an easy meet and helps on speed work. maybe fingerle will let you do when you run somebody easy.
