  1. u may be right but the 3200 has NOTHING to do with the 5k.

damon varble- great 3200 runner (made state last year 9:52 or something) but just a good cc runner nothing special

patterson- worst 3200 runner ive ever seen

didn't varble completely fall apart on the 3200 at state?

  2. region 1 is held at daniel boone. hands down one of the toughest courses around. it seems like most of the course is slanted pretty significantly from left to right. and then there is the infamous "moody" hill. tough terrain about 6 feet wide with barbed wire on both sides. it's about 300 meters long and you have to run it twice. you feel like your going to fall sideways when running up it.

  3. just got back from region 1 meet. times escape me...

    1. David Clabo 16:58

    2. Chris Brumit (about 30 seconds back)

    3. David Smith

    Teams:

    1. University by a long run(20s or 30s)

    2. GP 65

    3. Elizabethton 70

it was a fun race. glad we beat Elizabethton.

  4. i apologize for getting everyone's feathers ruffled.

i just like to see you middle tn boys get all worked up by questioning your mission for intergalactic domination. :thumb:

in response to your question coniglio, things are tapering off just wonderfully. we're really stoked about regionals on thursday. i think university has got the team title pretty much locked and if it all works out as planned, we'll be battling e-town for 2nd. clabo should win pretty easily - i don't think anyone is even close.

    my region 1 predictions:

    boys:

    a/aa - david clabo

    teams: usjc, e-town, gphs

    aaa - josh vasquez

teams: morristown west, d-b, science hill

    girls:

a/aa - it'll come down to the kick between mcamis and basconi of e-town and davenport and brosmore of usjc (if you don't believe me check out the trailblazer results)

    teams: usjc, e-town, ???

    aaa: haley moody

teams: morristown west (somewhere near a perfect score), science hill, d-b

  5. fra isnt hiding anything. at metro one of their top 4 dropped out or just ran really badly, i didnt feel like scrolling down far enough to find him if he did finish. district where they finished 6 pts behind lipscomb is a good gage of what they can do, however i dont think it will be quite that close at region but fra should still be the clear #2 at state

assuming one of their top 4 doesn't drop out or run really bad...

  6. who is your favorite to break up the sweep? i agree that the sweep probably won't happen just becuase the odds of all three teams having great races on the same day is not that good but i think that they are the top 3 a/aa teams in the state based on steeplechase performances. its pretty much guarenteed that all three will be in the top 5 but the sweep will be very tough

    potential sweep breakers:

    university school - jc

    jackson christian school

    elizabethton

you can't compare every race to steeple chase. if you look at the tn classic results, fra and usjc were extremely close in terms of average time. when you factor in the fact that fra ran in the gold race, i.e., faster runners=faster times for the fra guys, i think usjc is the better team.

  7. I'll take mad props when I can get them!

Clabo was really tough and ran a super-intelligent race, letting first Chris and then Maclean do the work, then moving in that last mile when it was time to go. I don't know of another A-AA runner in the state of his caliber.

yeah, he did. the comment he had after the race was how much fun it was. he said the lead runner kept changing throughout that second loop. you have to love races like that. your guys ran great...the respect they get is well-deserved.

  8. Yeah. I hope he doesn't run away with it. I'd perfer to be there with him challenging him for it.

The guy that beat me got out in the lead early so I followed hoping not to loose contact. After about 1200 meters in I was always no further back than 8 seconds and I pushed it to about 4 or 3 seconds after the Mile 2 mark but lost it again until I finally finished 6 back.

Ever had a feeling where your arms go numb? lol I so had that one today. Great race. I need more finishing work. I reached for a 400 meter to go surge and nothing was there. Then I reached for a 160 meter kick and still nothing was there at all.

Sometimes that happens. At least you have 3-4 weeks to fix it. Happy running!

  9. It's not biased at all. It's the truth. I thought I was doing well today with a 16:37. I guess not anymore.:lol::lol:

    Congrats to David!

Snap! Good run Matt! I'd love to see a showdown between you two. State won't be any fun if David runs away with it. You guys ran Jesse Owens, right?

  10. i know this is a little biased, but it seems as though david clabo is the man to beat in a/aa.

he ran a 16:22 at cherokee blvd today. although cherokee is a fast course, i don't think anyone else is even close to what he is doing.

oak ridge is THE team to beat in aaa. other than clabo, it seemed like the 10 were all oak ridge runners. mad props to coach etheridge.

  11. this year will be a race for third behind dl and fra no questions asked. it would be pretty sweet if mlk got 3rd and completed the region sweep at state but i think it will probably end up being usjc in 3rd

elizabethton looked pretty good at vol classic. they looked like they were no where near peaking yet.

and remember, last year all people could talk about was how fra, etown, and page would be top 3 at state. well, who came in 3rd? knox catholic...few people saw that coming...the beauty of cc: the surprise attack. <_<

  12. DL is doing a really good job at keeping people guessing. Yes, they are a solid team, but compare them with other solid teams around the state and I don't know if they deserve all of the hype. If you check out their team page on TN Runner, only one runner has made an elite performance this year. Yes, they are a pack running team, but there are some other teams that also run that way that aren't getting the hype...see also: elizabethton and university school - jc. I'm going to run some numbers and I'll get back to you guys.

  13. the lack of standout teams in a/aa is taking me by surprise. DL is the only a/aa team to receive votes in coaches poll. it seems that almost every a/aa team has a few good individuals, but no one can round out that top 5.

if you look at the times, there aren't any a/aa teams with more than one elite performance. compare that with last year when you had teams like coniglio mentioned with 4 or 5 guys with elite times.

it will be interesting to see it play out in the regional and state meets.

maybe this week will be a turning point since there are some pretty big meets.

we're running the vol classic...can't wait for the clabo and sonnenfeldt battle.

  14. G-P is recovering from a losing season last year. The boys are more enthusiastic and ready to win this year and that is what they are going to do! All the teams that they play this year are the same teams that they played last year and had a losing season, so the excuse that the teams that G-P play have a bad record is not all that acurate. Those same teams beat them last year and now G-P is ready to play!

  15. elizabethton did lose 5 of their top 7, with some tough people to replace.

they look good so far. very consistent, with probably a minute, maybe a minute 20 separating their top 5. i agree that they are laying low, but don't count them out.

we just got back from melton hill park today. dang, that's a tough course.

clabo finished first in 17:27, with the next guy about 25 seconds back(don't hold me to that spread, i was already looking/screaming for our next guy). most of the top ten finishers were a/aa.

looking forward to the volunteer classic on the 30th. anyone going?

i think elizabethton is venturing out for that one.

  16. as far as i can tell, there is really no stand out team in A/AA.

that will just make the state meet more exciting. DL looks good, but i wouldn't be surprised if University - Johnson City doesn't make some strides near the end.

In the east, anything can happen. in terms of upper east, i predict University, GP, and Elizabethton to be top three, in no particular order.

Knoxville region I see at as Catholic, CAK, and Gibbs, no questions asked.

as far as state goes, you never know what will happen. last year you had your standout teams (and standout runners) in elizabethton, franklin road, and page. this year, who knows?

  17. where is clabo? that is the burning question. he went out for a tempo run last week and i haven't seen him since...i think someone spotted him running near memphis.

gp decided not to run tn classic. we had our first in-county meet on thursday and ran a meet at cocke co today, and a metro meet on thursday.

tuesday he ran a 17:08 on the gatlinburg-pittman course, which is loaded with hills. he was 1:30 ahead of the second place finisher. after the race he went and did a speed workout at the track.

today he ran a 17:01 on a very tough course at the cocke co. fairgrounds. morristown west won the team competition, placing 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7. bo owens is gp's number 2 man and don't be surprised if he shocks some people later in the season. he had a pr of 17:56 today.
