  1. With former Springfield Head Coach Jon Offutt now at the helm of Northwest football what can Viking Fans and Alum expect in the 2009 season?
  2. I think if it came to a situation where a co-op program was the case all the athletes would play for one team, and not be spread out. If the athletes were split and continued to take classes at Northeast then you would have problems between the players. I think the individual players should begin to look into transferring to another school and applying for a hardship waiver to remain eligible. CoachwhoKnows
  3. Under Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Bylaws Article I-Section 6 Cooperative Programs Two member schools may petition TSSAA annually for permission to have a cooperative program in any sport if one of the schools does not have that program or has not had that program for the last five years. The Executive Director of TSSAA may approve such cooperative programs subject to approval by principal of schools involved, the governing board of the schools involved, and the Board of Control. Should Northeast concede defeat in the coach hiring process and petition the TSSAA to allow their athletes to participate in a cooperative program with another area school?
  4. Three years is plenty of time to work on any trade, why should football be any different. A more important question should be asked. Is this hiring more out of fear of reprocussions. After all I can think of three instances in the last four years where coaches of the Clarksville-Montgomery Co. School System have made the front page for issues other than their coaching ability.
  5. With all due respect I have never claimed and never will claim to have a vast knowledge of the happenings with Northeast and there football program. Nor do I really care. However, I thought it would be prudent and beneficial in some way to mention that I ran into a family friend who is a member of the administration at Northeast. I asked if the administration was close to announcing a coach. The response I was given is what I stated earlier, that there were problems finding a coach that would be able to work in the school. 6. I talked to a NE Adminstrator last night during dinner and it was stated that the Adminstration as a whole would like to have a coach who would be able to teach in the school. This has been the biggest set back because NE needs only one or two positions filled for the upcoming school year. CoachwhoKnows
  7. Yes Schools have SRO's and have had them in place since '99-00 School year.
  8. Why has the Northeast administration not announced a coach? It is foolish to believe that any school, regardless of level of talent or work ethic can compete without a direction and goal to work towards. Having played in the Clarksville-Montgomery County area I have come to understand some issues that arise from the area's sports sucesses as well as its fiascos. However, this situation at Northeast is beyond my comprehension. To Northeast, I wish you the best of luck on the upcoming season. I will not make predictions as to your level of success, however I hope all the negative feedback you have witnessed has atleast forged a strong team bond. To everyone else, I have asked this question before and thought it would be a good time to ask it again. Why doesn't the Montgomery Co. School System consolidate it's highschools? Larger schools help out not only in competitve ability, but also help in the classroom. Larger schools are able to offer a more diverse curriculum simply because the student body is larger. Why doesn't Clarksville consolidate into three highschools and begin offering a more diverse curriculm to include engineering, advanced business, advanced biology, ect?
  9. From what I have been told by friends who attended the game, and according to what was posted on TheLeafChronicle.com Northwest played pretty well against Portland. Is the win against Portland a new trend starting? What will happen this week against Glencliff? Need news, out of the loop because I no longer dwell in the great state of Tennessee. CoachwhoKnows
  10. When are the spring scrimmages going to be held for the Vikings? Who are they going to scrimmage?
  11. Let sleeping dog lie. Everyone on the team knew who had a problem with who. I believed I was right standing up for my team mates and I believe I was put in my place that Thursday afternoon when I was told "Thats why your the player and I am the coach." It should have ended there and not dragged on to the following day, but hind sight is always 20-20. As far as I am concerned nothing can be done or will be done about it now. I wish Myers the best of luck at Hillsboro. I will Southerland the best of luck teaching at KWMS and hope he finds success Coaching at the Eagle's Nest. Though it is hard to swallow I wish Meriweather the best of luck at APSU and hope he finds success in the world some day. But most importantly I want to wish Northwest the best of luck and I hope their players find success on and off the field. After all, life goes on after those 40 friday nights. Good luck, CoachwhoKnows
  12. Only after the third game my junior year when I was told to leave the team because a senior had missed the entire week of practice and was still able to play. I was the offensive line captain at the time and closest player to the coaches. I was asked by my team mates to say something about which I did. The following day I was pulled out of a pep rally, placed in a room one on one with the Defensive Coordinator and line caoch and horse cussed for the better part of an hour because I stood up for my team mates. After that I realized the coaches were in it for themselves. They wanted to make themself a big name in the state rather than do what was right. The senior should have been made an example of and had to sit that game. It was unfortunate that he had medical circumstances that prevented him from coming to practice that week. But there is no excuse! Glad we see eye to eye now Kelly.
  13. After playing for the old Northwest Staff for a number of years, including the 9-3 and 7-4 seasons I think it is time for a change. I was able to see how the coaching staff operated, and though I personally didn't agree with many of the tactics I kept my mouth shut because I believe it was not my place to judge. However now that I am away from the school and out of Clarksville I find myself looking back at those times and questioning why I or any of my team mates put up with what we went through. Now don't take this the wrong way, we were never singled out or punished for something that we shouldn't have been punished for. But I remember several days in Summer Camp or during the season when a coach (not laying out any names) would tell one of the lineman to take out a younger guy because he wasn't up to par or because his parents were causing problems in the principals office. Many such events took place at Northwest during my four year tenure. Well three years and two games I should say. I was asked to leave the team because I had been deemed a bad influence because I no longer followed coaches expectations as a senior and a leader. Now that I look back on it I am glad I was asked to leave instead of having one of the other players "deal" with it as I had been asked to do so on some occasions. Now some people may say that dark times are coming for Northwest, but I don't think that is the case. Granted the win and loss column may be sore eyes for a few years but I believe that Coach Shrenk will be able to bring a decent program to Northwest in the coming years. Though I have not personally played for him I do believe that he will teach the kids more about life than winning games. After all, isn't that was highschool ball should be about? It is about teaching kids to work hard for the common good, not about eliminating the weak links through questionable methods. I wish Coach Shrenk the best of luck, and I hope the new staff will be able to give the kids at Northwest a good dose of true leadership and life lessons. With everything that has happened with Northwest over the last month with 4 kids dying in car accidents I think everyone should calm down and look at the more important aspects of life. Winning and losing only matters in the stats, but lessons in life will carry you forvever. CoachwhoKnows
  14. Haven't been able to keep up with everything lately. When is Northwest going to have their spring camp? Or are they not going to have one in light of the changes in the coaching staff? Another question, when did Coachchris start heading over to Northeast to coach? Isn't he still teaching at Kenwod Middle. I would think he would have tried to get on that staff before heading to the Eagle's Nest. Fill me in if you can.
  15. Talk in the locker room is the complete opposite CoachChris. From what some of the players have told me no one is stepping up. The team has reverted to the 2001-2002 Viking with brawls in the locker room after every game. I hope this is not the case because it would bring a great deal of dissention among the players for the next few years. I hate to tell the coaches to cut their losses this year and just start building on the next, but that might be the only option. I suggest going back to the full grey sweat suit from three years ago and making the offensive and defensive units work out as a team. I think that is what made the 2003-2004 team successful. The team started building a brotherhood from day one. In response to the running up of the score in 2004, that was a coaches decision. That night the incoming freshman class was brought into the stands from the local middleschool to watch the game. The score was run up to show those young men that they were coming into a successful program. As a member of the team that year I remember one of the Coaches bragging about it after the game at a dinner hosted by the booster club. I myself did not agree with the tactics of that game, and was later told if I didn't agree I should leave. But, with all that aside I wish the Vikings some success in the last 3 games, especially to the seniors who might never step on the field as a player again. I only ask that you bring the boys together for their last home game and pull out a victory. As an alumni I can tell the boys it really hurts to know the last game I played at Esau Lathon Stadium ended in a loss. Don't let that happen to our boys this year CoachChris. CoachwhoKnows
  16. CHS 56 NW 16 Need any more be said NW working on a perfect 0-10 season.
  17. Well, I have to apologize. My prediction Kenwood by 28 was wrong! It was Kenwood by 27. NW working on a perfect season, we are now 0-5! As far as the team family concept, oh yeah NW has family - they just don't have the heart or desire to win. Watched them on the sidelines lastnight with their helmets off, laughing, joking and cheering (at least trying to get the crowd into the game) - to include my own son. Problem with this team - they have no discipline -evident with one of the Viking players getting ejected from the game for unsportmanlike/personal foul conduct. Kenwood, however was fired up and ready to go - their coaches evidently know how to coach and mentor their players. THEY had them prepared to play the game of football. As much as I hate to predict (and I may have to apolgize for this one) NW will NOT WIN a game this season and until they get rid of the current staff and bring in some new blood to take over and be the coach's to take charge of the team and quit trying to be the kids "buddies" - NW will never again be a contender in Region 6-4A. CoachWhoKnows
  18. Just want to get a prediction message in before tonight. OUCH Will it end up 0-5 or 1 - 4 ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
  19. I think Coach Chris has a new screen name and is talking to himself,,,,,,,,,,,upchuck, gag
  20. KENWOOD TAKES THIS ONE BY 28 PTS. SORRY GUYS ITS SAD BUT TRUE
  21. Kenwood at Northwest Vikings Football To the players, good luck, work hard, if your going to win you will have to dig down deep and hard to pull this one out. “It can be done”. Each one will have to do their job, not just two or three. Your season can be salvaged if the team is a team and firing on all cylinders. Those drives must be sustained time after time. Execution will be the key. Every play must be executed to perfection. The defense, well you will have to play better than you have ever played and on each play. There won’t be any free rest periods in this one. To my son, I really hope you win.
  22. ASU23 Haven't seen you on the current roster..............WHATS UP WITH THAT.
  23. Friday Night is enough reason for the Vikings or any team for that matter to go all out, an in-town rival game. Hey, lots of luck. The program can only get better when the current staff is gone, sorry for you seniors who won't have the chance under a new staff. So many problems and So many different individuals on the C. Staff, each going their own direction. The Vikings have some talent but not the knowledge, sorry guys looks like you will keep that perfect record your working on. 0-10 coach who don't want to know Sorry - was meant to say Kenwood at NW - really doesn't matter, outcome will be the same. Kenwood wins this one.
  24. Lipscomb obviously pulls this out easily. Final score Lipscomb by 28
