Oakland, you played your hearts out. One of the best hard hitting games I have seen in a while, you represented your coach and school well. Your QB will throw it from anywhere to anywhere on the field. Never seen so many roll outs to the right and throw back across the middle of the field in my life. Good luck in the playoffs.

Yes, we were blue, I was at all those games, including 1992, when we beat defending state champions in the 1st game of that season, but I do remember the state semi finals several times too. We played Oak Ridge in regular season a couple of years in there too.

Funny, we were wondering why the band wore blue, thought maybe red was not a good band competion color lol. Always thought it was weird Red Bank colors are blue. When did Oakland change to red for football?

Great win for Smyrna, was total team win. When you lose starting Qb middle to late 3rd qtr til basically OT and still come out with a win. More impressed tonight than at any game this season, everyone seems to have faith in each other no matter who is in the game, penalties kept to a minimum. Keep it up and good luck in the playoffs.

If Ensworth costs $17,000.00 a year and he was there for 2 1/2 years that is $42,500.00. Can you imagine how much tutoring he could have gotten in Mt. Pleasant for that.

Alcoa DID play up in the 80's and 90's until TN went to four classes?

They were and A size school playing in AA and actually won a title over Brentwood Academy (89) after losing in the finals the year before.

We have already beaten the 1985 Chicago Bears, the '98 Vols and we beat the (then) undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. What more do you people want?

But you never went to the top classification, so until you do that it is all talk. While the "little school that could" actually did it back to back.

Look at Alcoa's schedule.......they ALWAYS play up! Over the last 10 years they have played the BEST in the state..........Over the last twenty years they have beat every DII schools to step UP and play them. Alcoa even traveled out of state and played KY's 4A state champions. This has made it near impossible to get 10 games each year. Next year Alcoa will need 4 games. So, the REAL question is "when will the "big fellas" finally schedule a home and home with Alcoa???? Quit yappin and STEP UP!!

No, by play up I mean move up, when next classification comes around move up to 6A. Then make them play ya thats what the "little school that could" did, and trust me the big fellas did not like it. All I know is for all the talk, I know of only 1 school that actually walked the walk and walked away with 2 gold balls in the biggest classification in Tennessee football at the time.

WOW put down the peace pipe. There might be 4 teams that could keep it close with the Tornadoes this year. Obviously you and several other poster don't realize how good this Alcoa team really is. The offensive weapons that we have are really unbelievable for high school football in this state. If this team end the season real strong. then I might be able to say this is the best ALCOA team EVER. Then I could also say that we would go undefeated in any of the districts this year. WITHOUT A DOUBT!!! Also we have contacted a few of those schools and a few have already turned us down. IMAGINE THAT....

That is why you should follow the same route that "the little school that could" did. Play up, and prove it then that will shut everybody up. That is the difference one school talks about it (fans) and the other school went out and did it. Only problem is when you start beating the big fellas things will come to the forefront that at the moment seem to not be an issue. Rankin knows this, he despised it in middle tn and now enjoying same situation. And moving up to highest class would ruin it for him.

I would guess since he never had control it would be receiving team ball at the 20.

Probably ME! I made him do something he did not want to do. That one thing was to apologize to one of his players for something he(Rankin)did that was WRONG.

 

Wearing the 45 and Badge at the time helped also.

If I was not heading to KY, I would have to see this one. It should be a great game. Having seen both, I honestly can't pick a favorite. BUT Blackmans QB will definitely have to step-up once again for the Blaze to get the W.

After this game Qb should be on cruise control got what he needed a game winning drive which he was "the man" and a lot of confidence.

Rankin hated my guts, and my feeling for him was worse. I do admit I liked the winning spirit and ability, but as a person there are social diseases that are more appealing. With them at least penicillin can cure it.

 

What happened to Crawford at Blackman and Britton at Siegel was a travesty. In plain English they BOTH got screwed BIG TIME by a Coach who kept them from getting a better job because he was afraid to face them and teams they Coached. Crawford proved he could beat Rankin the first year he was at Brentwood by beating R'dale for the Gold Ball that year. Britton was not as fortunate with the team he got by a Super that did not support him or the Coach that followed him. I figure the one they have now will stay three years tops.

Big win for Smyrna against a rival school. Has LaVergne won more than once in the history? How many yds did the LHS QB get this week?

5-14 69 Yards 1 int. passing and -6 rushing on 12 carries not sure how accurate that rushing stat is he lost 22 yards on one sack by running back and forth but running backwards. That is when they took him out. Team total 69 passing 14 rushing.

Difference is that three teams from same district finished tied in district play, each won one and lost one against each other, but Oakland beat Ensworth, Smyrna lost to Ensworth and Blackman didn't even play Ensworth Ensworth (or any non-district game) should not be a factor. Put it this way. If Smyrna played Cane Ridge and Blackman played Ensworth how would Blaze fans feel if they were the (8-2) team instead of the (9-1) team????

If smyrna wins out no issue, if they don't then they get seeded wherever it puts them. As for your question sure would not like it but that is the way it is. PS don't overlook brentwood, plus if they are all in quad 3 we get to do it all over again.

Please don't start the we believe LOL, really first real test for him since smyrna game hope he does well and may the best team win. I really do think he is the key to this game.

When Shipley want's to call...he can nail it....he and I went back and forth back in the day O....but he brings his A game every Friday Night....if you listen close sometimes you will hear a chuckle when something really weird happens...he just cant keep his wits ...I admire him heck I do the same thing just let the game flow and have fun...dont worry about all the other noise in the press box....

Lost to smyrna because #4 could not run (72 first half 4 second half) and Qb could not pass. Now the question is can your QB keep Oakland honest? Anybody can tell this is the key in this game, was 4-8-17 yards 1 td 1 int against siegel in a 21-9 win. If he can who knows, if he can't then you can expect 2 following #4 all over the field. Qb's questioned all over the place in 7AAA but for some reason this one is forgotten? Could it be because against everyone else #4 has run for 250+ yards and no need to pass except when they wanted to except for one game which they lost. This game will be determined by blackman QB.

They have about 300 students... What they do is not to be believed. They could play with anyone.. I think Coach Rankin's email is on line.. Email him..

closer to 550. I don't need to email Mr Rankin i am sure he remembers the little school that could (450) well enough. Only difference is they did play up in the highest class and have 2 5A gold balls in the trophy case to prove it. That is why i say if you are that good week in week out and i believe Alcoa is then move up and do it.

I would bet that from what I have seen that Alcoa could play with all of the teams mentioned so far.

Then why don't they do it, play up in 6A it can be done. Ask Rankin he has first hand knowledge of it.
