    Top 10

Since our beloved Mjuhb is out of action this season I thought I would take a crack at the preseason top 10. I'm sure I'll get some help from of you out there. I'm only going to do the AAA, someone else who knows the other divisions better than me will need to do them. AAA 1. Bearden 2. Siegel 3. Collierville 4. Franklin 5. Farragut 6. Brentwood 7. Houston 8. Riverdale 9. Ravenwood 10. Oakridge
  2. I can only speak to this years TNFC girls u16 and 17s Coached by Chris Price. I don't have any knowledge of the other age brackets. As you may know Chris was the DOC for the TNFC girls for the last couple of years. Over the last year or so there has been turmoil with the TNFC Board of Directors due to some financial improprieties by the past president. I thought Chris did a great job of keeping that turmoil at the Board level and away from the coaches and players. Craig Long the original president and one of the founders came back on board to try to right the ship. I don't know much of the details but Craig and the new board had some ideas on how to do things and Chris and many of the coaches didn't agree with many of these ideas... Chris announced that he was going to resign as DOC about a week before the state tournament and would not coach the upcoming u18s next year. Since then the TNFC u17 Blue as broken up. About 4 or 5 players moving over to play with the Stone River Strikers and the rest moving to the Brentwood Club to combine with the Attack. Some of the u17s had decided not to play at all next year. I think the u16 tried to go to Brentwood too but something happened and that didn't transpire. It really puts many of the u16's in a bad situation because of the need to be seen by college coaches next year but the team has come apart. Many are looking for somewhere else to play. Obviously there was a lot more that went down over the last 4 or 5 months but I really don't know too much of the details. I hope that the displaced girls find a home, there was quite a bit if talent on these teams.
  3. Yes they will have a JV. Not sure if Shelton has firmed up all his games for JV so if anyone is interested you might want to contact him to see if he has any open dates.
  4. District 7 Siegel, Riverdale, Blackman, Oakland, Cookville, Warren Co, White Co, Who will take district this year? Siegel won in 04,05,06 and Riverdale won last year in 07 but Siegel advanced thru to the state tournament semi-finals to play Bearden in a tough 1-0 game. Blackman improved last year and was competitive...any input on what they may do this year. Oakland I understand has a new young coach, and I'd like to hear what Cookville prospects are too.
  5. Not bad ND.... Siegel's Coach Shelton has also put together another year of competitive non district games for 2008 Date Opponent, Rank(nn) Opponent (w-l-t) Time Score All Games Conf Games Comments 08/07 BGA (0-0-0) 7:00 PM 08/18 at Father Ryan (0-0-0) 6:00 PM 08/23 at Pope John Paul II (0-0-0) 9:00 AM 08/26 at Baylor (0-0-0) 6:00 PM 08/30 vs Franklin (0-0-0) 6:00 PM HENDERSONVILLE CLASSIC 08/31 vs Hendersonville (0-0-0) 8:00 PM Hendersonville Classic 09/01 vs Brentwood (0-0-0) 2:00 PM Hendersonville Classic 09/03 * at Murf. 6. Out West: I know I'll get some blow back from Canes on this but the point I would make regarding Houston and Collierville is that they are almost assured a ride to the state tournament when they win district. If they were in a more competitive region there is the chance that they might not make it thru because of an off night against a competitive team. Examples last year would be Riverdale, Brentwood, Hendersonville, Farragut. Good teams that would have been competitive in the state tournament but because of a strong district or an off game in the sectional, etc. did not make it thru. There is no doubt that Houston and Collierville have excellent programs it's just if they had to play through the same competitive regions and sectionals that the Mid and West TN teams do they might not make through every year.
  7. Riverdale lost to Soddy Daisy 1-0 in the sectional played at Riverdale. Soddy Daisy lost 6-0 to Collierville in the State Quarterfinal played at GPS. You must be thinking Soddy Daisy. In regards to "Same Old Fare" Franklin over the last two decades has been a dominate state winner but it now has to fight its way out of a very tough district that includes Brentwood. Tullahoma another frequent state visitor has been been stopped in regionals the last couple of years by Siegel and Riverdale. Both programs have improved as well as the talent. For the last two years Siegel has upset Franklin in close games in the state quarter-finals. Ravenwood was new to the state tourney last year surprising teams in the regionals. In the west Collierville and Houston will continue to dominate. Their big schools with the right demographics and no real competition in the regionals so they should be at state regularly. In the west I don't think Oak Ridge will be back to state but Bearden and Farragut should. But someone else may have better knowledge of the west than I. Would like to hear your thoughts. So there has been some change in the same old fare. But the teams and towns that have good clubs feeding them should continue to return to the state tourney although where new high schools open it could dilute the talent. IE Independence, Ravewood.
  8. It was Siegel and they played Bearden toe to toe in the semifinals too 1-0. Siegel lost two Senior starters B. Winn and B. Miller. But they had several sophomores and Freshmen that started and contributed. Siegel will have 5 or 6 senior starters this year. They will battle with Riverdale again and both teams should make it to the sectionals. I don’t see Tullahoma or Shelbyville stopping them this year. In fact I would predict both Siegel and Riverdale make to the state tournament. Then its anybody’s guess.....
  9. Will Bearden make it 3 in a row or will some one stop them? How many seniors did Beaden lose? Who has the best chance of taking the title away from them this year?
  10. Who to watch in above teams. BGA - Susan Dennis Franklin - Lucy Brent Brentwood - Dana Schwartz Riverdale - Hanna McGowan, Becca Smith Siegel - Hayley Sloan, Kim Conrad Ravenwood - Emily Allen FRA - Kaitlyn Smith, Morgan Crofford CPA ?? need input
  11. Wow this is a suprise. The Impact did the lobos a huge favor. I would image the Express is stunned. Of course I'm still suffering the agony of defeat from the TNFC loss to the Strikers. Strikers should win it all again.
  12. OK I'll say up front I'm bias to tnfc. So here's my prediction for what it's worth. TNFC 2 Strikers 1 Express 2 lobos 0 Express and TNFC should win their second games against diadora and fury. State final Tnfc 3 Express 1 These teams (tnfc, strikers, express)have all beaten or tied each other over the last two years. TNFC is a stronger team than last year and with the title on the line there will be fewer subs during the games. Who can bring the intensity and make the fewest mistakes. ???? Go Blue!

  14. The schedule is posted at tnsoccer.org Looks to me like the semi finals are being played first on Friday night. The winners of those two games most will most likely be playing in the finals. My pick this year TNFC
  15. Game Times 1:00 pm both Sat and Sun. Ersa v TNFC Sat and TNFC v Strikers Sun. Where: Brentwood Academy
  16. The U17 TNFC Blue, ERSA Express and Stones River Strikers games scheduled for Jan 19, 20 have been moved to Nashville and will be played and Brentwood Academy. I don't have game times yet. Match Date Field Home Away Score Division 01/19/08 time TBD - ERSA Express 91G vs. TNFC 91 U 17 Girls South Division 01/20/08 time TBD - TNFC 91 vs. SRFC Lady Strikers 91 U 17 Girls South Division If your a college coach you may want to see these games. Some of the best girls u17 talent in TN will be playing. TNFC were finalist at Disney over the Holidays defeating the MD and MA state champs along the way.
  17. After I sent my eairlier reply I looked at the team list and it appears that both AR teams may have opted out. I'll try to confirm this. But AR is in Region III south, if you look at the other age brackets you will find AR teams. Also there are only 9 teams in the u17 girls bracket so that would make sense if both AR teams opted out of premier league. In that case not sure why Jackson, Tn is the venue for the January games other than thats what they had originally decided to do and just havent changed it.
  18. I'm not 100% certain of this but because TNFC 91 is filling a spot left vacant by an AR team the other AR team is traveling to TN to play. So Jackson was chosen to keep the AR team from having to travel all the way to the Mid Tenn area. So on that the weekend of Jan 19,20 ERSA and SRFC will play TNFC and the AR team.
  19. In mid Jan ERSA and SRFC Strikers are scheduled to play TNFC 91 in Jackson TN. Considering the AL games this should be some great soccer. TNFC is playing the TN teams because one of the AR teams opted out of the Premier League and with TNFC the Premier League champs last year they were given a spot. Can anyone confirm that Josey Rix is playing with the Strikers?
  20. I guess you did'nt see the Premier League game last May where TNFC beat the Strikers 1-0. It was a good competitive game and I dont know where you get soft. TNFC has pick up several quality players and will be better than ever. Yes TNFC didnt get the match up with the strikers we were looking for in state because of a poor game played against ERSA. TNFC did make it into the Regional III Quarter finals but the Texans Red and ESC Black would make it tough for ANY TN team to win regional.
  21. Although Franklin was my pick to make it though this year and win it all I would not forget the ball can take funny bounces and it depends on which team shows up, the good one or the flat one. Siegel will give you a game and if their forwards get hot that will be trouble. Should you get past Siegel there is Bearden or Houston. Both good teams and I dont think Franklin has faced them this year. I do think the State Champ will come from this side of the bracket. Remember good teams fell out early, Farragut and Riverdale. Anything can happen in these games at this level. I admit I'm a Siegel fan and Siegel has been playing good soccer just some tough breaks. But here we are and looking at Franklin again like last year. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!! You got to love it!
  22. Bad ref call cost Siegel the game tonight. Riverdale defender is one on one with Brittney Winn. The defender turns her back and trips or falls in front of Brittney. Brittney dribbles around the player and finishes the goal. BUT the center ref blows his whistle and calls a foul on Brittney and nullifies the goal. It was one of the worst calls I have ever seen and I've watched alot of soccer. Brittney never touched the defender at all. That point would have given Siegel a 2 to 1 win instead it goes into overtime and Riverdale get a goal in the last minute of the 2nd 10 minute over time. Even the Riverdale fans I was near saw no foul.
  23. I've seen both play this year and I would give Franklin the edge because of their defense. Franklin is very solid front and back. Collierville will get knocked out before the final by someone. Depends on the draw at state. Bearden and Frankin in the state final is my prediction. Unless they are matched up before the final of course.
  24. Wow. Thats one tough district. Lots of talent on the brentwood team. Franklin Ravenwood game will be a good one but I would predict franklin to win.
