  1. That person still hasn't called yet, and considering you were just in the bathroom about 30 minutes ago, that still leaves another 30 minutes before the place is actually safe to go into. Of course you can't go by one game. People are comparing TN High, South, and Boone, when you can't even compare the three teams. That was the point I was making Boss. We haven't seen enough comparisons to make........a comparison. As far as what they have, from all I see, South has a strong team but is very beatable. TN High is always looking excellent, but there are ways to beat a team like that. Half the fans are in another thread claiming they will blow out South yet I still see that BOTH teams got drilled by DB by the same margin. PS I love you but I don't feel the restrooms are safe to go in yet.
  2. We uh, kinda have these problems in our Boone threads. We like to look ahead a little bit. I really shouldn't but it is kind of hard to do. Thanks for the good words. Truth to the Cocke County football mentality, I don't care if they have lost every game, they will still play hard. Tomorrow should be fun
  3. Compared to what? The only comparison you have is Greeneville and Boone had a better game against them than South did. Waa waaa waaa waaa.
  4. We'll talk about this next week Stushy. Have fun waiting around until Saturday morning, because the trash talking will begin my friend. PS Mo-West is overrated, I stole your season in 99.
  5. I wish I didn't have to work this Friday. This is going to be one of the games that will be watched by a lot of people this Friday. Good luck to both teams!
  6. Hurray, thanks for doing that thinking thing and turning his own argument against him.
  7. What you do and what you might do are two different things. Yes, I'll agree that beating teams like M-West or Tenn High would be a good boost and a way that people would say "They are the real deal." That said, you are putting their whole season on one game that is for sure going to happen, and then one that might only happen in the play-offs. Let's say, at the best, Boone went 9-1 with their only loss to M-West. Are you actually going to sit there and say they aren't a good team because they lost against a team you consider "good". They one 9 other games, that isn't good enough for you? Don't downplay Cherokee or North, those are two good teams in this area that are only half way done with their season.
  8. Maryville is moving up to 5A? Where have I been
  9. It shall never end. Logic dictates that they must continue winning for the hope that #52 can keep the beard going! Good point on Newport as well. I'll be working again, but everyone going down from Gray should plan ahead and get ready for the hour and a half drive to Newport. My dad does it twice a week and he said it will end up being more like that. Everyone drive safe and please please please don't bet on the rooster fights while you are down there
  10. That is really about all you can say. We'll find out who is who. All I know is that it will be a great game for fans. Back to Cocke County football. I do agree that you need to give the head coach a chance. You won't really see the effect he has on the program until next year or a year after. We'll see we'll see.
  11. I have to admit, it was fun going there my junior year and stealing pieces of the castle after we won. I mean borrowed...................I mean................. *runs away*
  12. I believe that you are forgetting something: Open Date is undefeated!!!
  13. Ah I see it all over the boards. DB's confidence. I will give it up for them, they have a great football team this year. I just hope the fans are the ones who are overconfident, because if the players end up that way...........I've seen top teams knocked out early for half way playing a game. Again, I really hope it doesn't happen during this year for DB.
  14. Allright, since two people are going against my claim of a "powerhouse" (which you get quoted on so woot) I guess I will use my amazing linguistic abilities to talk about Boone's...........abilities (doh!) If we are going to claim Dobyns Bennett as THE powerhouse, then yes, I can see why your comments would go against mine. I understand that, noted, its all good, woots. They have become a powerhouse in the conference. Last year and this year. You had people picking Boone to be 4th in the conference last year, but they showed up as a 9-3 team by the end of the season. You have a 5-0 team this year, with it all likely for them to show up in the playoffs as a 10-0, 9-1, 8-2 team. (I'm sorry barb, my comments have to go forward in defense of my team!!). What more do they need? I can understand that Boone will need another two seasons for people to call them a powerhouse. That is fine. Suffice it to say, though, at this time in Boone's history of football, they are knocking heads, winning games, and doing what needs to be done. You have older kids who are leading the team, younger kids who are ready to play........it is all getting set up for them to be a powerhouse. Maybe I went a little too far ahead. I'll understand if we have two different versions of a powerhouse. The fact of the matter is that every team that will be playing Boone this year will take notice and know that it is a tough game. Now I got ahead of myself, back to this week. Cocke County. I was at Boone all day long, and the kids have their head on this game and are looking forward to it. I think they will be able to roll down to Newport and bring home another win.
  15. 1996, I graduated in 2000. Yea for those who have never been down there, the drive to Newport is quite a long one. You are looking at least an hour drive to get down there. It is almost like going down to Morristown, but it feels like you are going further than you really are. At least driving there doesn't have a lot of twist and turns.
  16. DB has good fans that believe in their team. The boys are out to play hard.......but I'd give the win to Maryville this year. Why? Those boys are built to win state championships and play football from the day they were born. The fans are hardcore and expect nothing less from their team. I'm not saying it would be a blowout, but I am saying that Maryville would take the win in a close game. They have that experience playing in tough tough tough nerve racking state title games. 4A, 5A, that just means that you have more students than another school. Players are players, and I just think Maryville has the players and the experience that would carry them in a game for the win. DB should focus on actually winning a state championship before they can start to think they are the best in the state. And before you claim me as a Maryville fan, think again. Look at the name, I live near Kingsport.
  17. Quite frankly, he is just a humongous large human being As to the person who put the post about Cocke County rebuilding, I feel for you. Unlike a couple of other Boone posters on here (beardy and the number stealer ) I can remember some very dark days at Boone. When I was a freshman, I saw the faces of the seniors who went through a season without a win. You can not imagine the disappointment and hurt that they had to go through when they just couldn't get that one win in a season. We had to rebuild. #1 All the players had to agree to make the sacrifices that it takes to rebuild a team. Which goes into #2, every single week as soon as that dreaded season was over, we hit the weight room three times a week. Everyone had to do this so that we could become a more physical team. #3 Was that every day we were also conditioning. A few of the 4A teams in the area just don't have all those players that go out for the football team (TN High, Mo-West, I am talking to you). The fact of the matter is that we had to be able to play four quarters with at least 7 or 8 people going both ways. We rebuilt, we became a stronger team. I'd like to think that paved the way to where Boone is now, but I know that isn't true. Those guys from last year and this year are playing as a team and deserve(d) everything they got. I'm glad to see that Boone has rebuilt into the powerhouse that they are now. Cocke County will be up there again, hopefully making the conference stronger. That said, it isn't Friday yet, so who knows what will happen under those lights. Best be on your game Boone, Cocke County won't roll over by no means.
  18. I did my student teaching at David Crockett last spring, and I got to see that man every day. Very polite, always saying hello and that he was glad I was at his school. He has a heck of a job though, last year there were fights all the time and the students generally caused a lot of trouble. Yea, there were only a few, but every day seemed like it had to be a big challenge for him. That said, he is a great principal. I would have liked to see what kind of coach he was though.
  19. Ah thanks for that information. I remember some kids who went to Sulphur Springs ended up at Crockett because the competition was too high at Boone for sports. I guess they changed that rule. The whole "you have to go here if you live here" rules have changed since I was in school. Heck, I live in Sulphur Springs and I went to Boones Creek Elem. and Gray.
  20. The guy smacking the ball boy at the far right is about as good as it gets. I'll give DB the benefit of the doubt, you all are looking good this season and rolling along. I hope they keep playing one game at a time and don't get overconfident because that is why they keep getting knocked out of the playoffs early. This year might be different if they can keep this up.
  21. I always liked how he would get you in that zone so that you would go as hard as you want. "On this play, you go 100 percent. You walk back to the huddle, and rest 100 percent. You then go back to the next play and go at it at 100 percent." If he saw one of the linemen was having a rough time, he'd call us over and not chew us out, but ask how things were going. A couple of plays later, he would put you back in and you would be ready to go. He really is a master of the mind game of football. You gotta love both Coach Jenkins (as well as Coach Green for you older folks), but Coach Sharp remains my favorite coach.
  22. I believe that there are zones in the middle schools and elementary schools in Washington County, but students can go to whatever high school they want to. The numbers are very high student wise at both Boone and Crockett. I wouldn't be surprised to hear about a new high school being built in five years or so.
  23. The summer of my senior year was a hot one. It never rained at all, the grass was dry, the atmosphere was heck. One day, Coach Sharp comes to his line and says "I have great news, it is going to rain today!" The lineman, easily pleased, asked "That is great news, when is it going to rain?" Coach Sharp replied with "Well, somewhere on the Earth today, it is going to rain somewhere. Just not here."
  24. I'll give respect to both the teams and the fans. TN High has a consistently good program and South always brings something strong to the table as well. That said, I just don't see some of the picks for this game. I will agree that TN High does have the advantage in this game, but I just don't see them winning by 3 or 4 touchdowns. It won't be that one sided of a game. 21 - 7, sure, 28-14, sure, it could go anyway. And just so the TN High team doesn't get too overconfident, I have seen a TN High team beat an Elizabethton team by 30 points, which beat a Boone team by 40 points, which Beat a TN High team by 7 points. I think this one will be closer than you guys think. Good luck to both teams and I hope everyone has an enjoyable Friday!
  25. You can attribute their line to not only Boone pride, but one of the best offensive line coaches in the state of Tennessee. Coach Sharp for the win boys, the blind man will lead you all to victory!!!
