  1. Tell ya what...if y'all don't support him and the players don't 'buy-in' to Dustin Wilson, PLEASE, send him down the road to our place (Greenbrier). We would LOVE to have him back!!! First off, he's no-nonsense. Secondly, he's young, but old school...i.e., he demands discipline and respect. He coaches the game the way it should be coached and demands that his players do the same (play it the way it should be played).

Good luck and God bless, Coach. I'm glad you finally got this opportunity. In my opinion, you deserve it. :thumb:

  2. I don’t want to disrespect the fine people from Greenbrier, but your team won two games. You beat Heritage by 1 and Portland by 1. I think you will be better but not the top in the district!

No 'disrespect' to you, either, but that was last year. Things change drastically, sometimes, in a year or two. Guess we'll see.

    And who is YOUR team?

  3. You forgot the spotlight! :hungry:

Not much difference between and 85 and 90 mph pitch, and I know Patterson, Gentry, and Waller can all smash - been watching them since they were 10 also.

The 90+ pitches must have been during the 15 K's, and the 86's were the eight hits. :thumb:

Now you know they don't have indoor plumbin', lectricity or spotlights in Cheatum Couny!

I'll bet that one he hit yesterday went out faster than it came in, though...

  4. Don't know, but look for the sophomore and junior classes to have a HUGE impact the next 2-3 years at Greenbrier. They are LOA-DED with talent, size, heart and game IQ. They are also a close bunch of guys that like each other, somewhat like the '05/'06 classes. May not be as stout, but you never know. Coaching (under- and over-) will make or break this 'window of opportunity' to be VERY good, in my opinion.

Remember these names: Young, Pentecost, Brown(?), Adcox, Johns, Lynn, Laney (yep, li'l bro!...'cept he ain't 'little'), Cherry (tfr., get this, FROM GP...back home!), Malgioglio, T. Hall, Gonser, Derseweh, Boyles and a few more 'gamers' that have escaped my memory at the moment.

  5. I saw Devon pitch a time or two, and I don't remember her needing much help from ANYBODY! I also don't remember many teams beating her, or even hitting her hard, even after the fans of said team starting their whining, which seemed to happen a lot more at some schools than others...and still does!

What year did you graduate from Goodpasture? Saw her more than a time or two and never saw her beat ANYBODY by herself...

College sure has been a different story, though, hasn't it?

  6. I have been to several tournaments and games this year and watched several umpires make it harder for teams like Riverdale, Beech, Goodpasture and a few other usually dominant teams. It seems the strike zone for these schools are smaller they have to pitch it right down the middle for a strike, forget about working corners, and when they are up to bat the strike zone expands. It is very biased. This is why you see the pitchers who should be dominating giving up hits to batters that should still be in rec league ball. Anyone can hit a ball down the middle. Its only hurting the teams who are getting the calls because when it gets closer to tournament time these biased umpires change the way of thinking. These teams still win because of thier dedication to excellence and will to win. You only make it more difficult for the teams who need to learn to hit against a good pitcher in the long run.

Disagree BIG time! Looks the same as when they used to give Devon Schmidt 2 balls outside. When our coach would complain or the crowd would get rowdy, the ump would adjust and guess what? We hit the ball! If you're good, bring it. If you ain't, quit whinin' and learn to. Dominant pitchers don't need help. Neither do dominant hitters, but the plate is there for a reason other than scoring, too.

  7. Wow....some people never get beyond what they are.

From earlier posts I thought you were possibly retard (uncommon spellin' for 'retired,' but common for Southern-speak; nevermind, you probably wouldn't understand anyway), but now I know you're not. You're a psycho-logist. Ever used this one on a patient: 'I'm schizophrenic and so am I?'

'Player Father,' huh? Isn't that supposed to be 'Player'S Father?' Nice! You're right, though, some people never do get beyond what they are OR were...:P

  8. Wow! CPA wins by 2... CPA girls take the district by 5... When was the last time both CPA teams won the district?

Don't know their total history, but I'd venture to say it was when an AAU/All-Star team last won it... Oh, that would be THIS year! Hmmm...

  9. the only time this game close was at tip-off.macon controlled the whole game.everybody that had a uniform scored and played starting at the half way point of 3rd period.the mvp of the district showed why he is the mvp.29 points tons of rebounds and just flat out want to.

Excellent summary and you'll get no argument from the GB faithful...or you shouldn't (you know there are 'nutcases' everywhere).

Good luck to the 'survivors' for Saturday...you're gonna need it. Safe travels to Westmoreland and Sycamore.

    Until next year...

  10. 'corporalnoname' (he got demoted for not properly recognizin' talent) and 'craptalk's' computers must be broke... :popcorneater::roflolk:

    Good point, 'pitch'...

Also, there's no better irony than to see Connor Peach (GB Class of 2012) ranked one spot higher in The Tennessean sports section under 'Boys Scoring' this morning than Craig Bradshaw (former GB Class of 2012) AND Jalen Lindsey. Crazy ain't it?! Just sayin'...

    Ata baby, Con-NOR! :thumb:

  11. Concerning Greenbrier basketball... Yep, they finished dead last in the District regular season and they're in the Tourney Finals vs. #1 Macon Co. Tuesday night, 7:30 at Vol State. Win or lose, it's 'Hoosiers-esque,' baby!

...they were awful last year. You think they will have improved that much? You and I saw how bad it could get for them in their district and region. I wish them the best but I think they are one notch above Westmoreland this year- same as last year.

Thacker is not that good. He is average at best. Bulking up will help but there are not enough pieces for this team to get to the next level. I still believe they are #5 in the district. Everyone knows Peach shoots the 3-ball but what else does he bring? Suspect ball handling and not a good defender.

    1. Macon Co.- the 3 some is too strong

    2. Sycamore- play hard/solid core back

    3. White House- 1-3-1 is tough with their length

    4. Goodpasture- a lot of guards- can they guard it(not sure about the coaching)

    5. Greenbrier- Not enough talent/size

    6. Westmoreland- graduated 5 seniors? Wow, this could be a long season!

Not to say I told you so: but I believe I told yo so! Peach- great shooter? All this hype about Peach avg 20 a game is just that- hype! Look, it is real simple: you got to have players. GHS probably has some players but they are young.

looks like the district losing streak for the bobcats continues :roflol::roflol::roflol:

Greenbrier gets last in the district for the 2nd year in a row after a district championship the previous year. Has the past two groups of kids been bad or is it the coaching?

Are you serious? Here is the answer to quote Don Meyer: "You can't make a racehorse out of a pig, but you can make a very fast pig". Besides Bradshaw leaving, and the Pendleton and Porter (post players from the year before) -those kids won it, the kids that were left were not that good. The red headed kid quit- soft and not very strong and the Rhoten kid was just a spot up shooter who had to have the table set for him, and Peach is the same way. They have solid coaching- you don't win at the college level and not know how to coach. The system has to be put in place to help the younger kids develop at the jr high level in order to be successful.

Greenbrier in the championship game!? What the heck!

Obviously, it took me a bit of time to compile all this, but I'd like to remind y'all of these two 'geniuses' observations. Uhhh, <clear throat> they'll be eating crow this week...as GB goes to the Regions. 'NoName,' where y'at, homie?!

    In other news...

Heard that senior, Chris Holbert, got fouled with 1.8 on the clock, and in the words of his mystic middle school coach "won the game at the line". Congratulations to the Bobcats! Who's next?

    Yeah, I told you so...

You forgot the 'stabilizer:' Chris Holbert. He's the epitome of a point guard and silent leader. Makes good decisions, hustles, plays defense, good...no, GREAT! passer and even rebounds. Scores, too, when needed. I would LOVE to have him as a teammate and hope my son watches what he does and appreciates it. He's the one that IF Craig , Sam and Jackson would've stayed, would be an integral part of a state-bound team, no doubt! That means we would've (coulda, shoulda, I know...) had Connor, Tyler and others filling that 5th spot consistently and, uhh!, oh what a team we would have. But, it wasn't meant to be and we certainly can't cry over spilt milk. That's why I love watchin' this team. And a 'TEAM' they are. They're 'survivors' and fun to watch. No quit in 'em, either.

As far as the future, who knows. We've certainly got some good talent coming and lots of it. But, as I've seen in GB-land before, some just don't have the passion or dedication to be REAL good. The future certainly looks bright, but there are too many variables to be making predictions. I'm just gonna enjoy this team this year and hope they keep playing hard and smart.

    GO :thumb: Cats!

If you don't come to watch the game because you think it'll be a blowout or something, at least come and see our new 'pep club/student section.' I haven't seen 'em personally, but I've heard they're quite good at motivating their fellow classmates, the 2011-12 version of our beloved Greenbrier Bobcats, to overachieve. The 'Cameron Crazies' got nuthin' on these kiddos!

  12. I find it funny that some people think Peach isn't that good. I mean, come on, what does he have to do? For those that don't know, he's also a nice young man. And he's better than DIII. Come on!...again.

Good to hear about our pep club, too. Props to Mrs. Raines! You make it fun and create good memories for our children. Thank you!

    GO Cats!

  13. There's an exploitation of kids that is going on regardless of how we spin it. And yeah, the parents are in it up to their necks. I feel sorry for some of them that are getting pulled in every direction under the guise of 'for the kids'. I wouldn't limit it to just private schools though, it's everywhere. Why do they have open zones? As long as a parent is willing to move, change apartments or whatever, there will be schools that will accommodate them. Parents will manipulate their Little League sign up forms because their kid can only play for Coach so and so or they have a travel issue or fill in the blank here. Rarely do parents with any means at all just let the chips fall where they may. They exploit their child's athletic ability to gain the maximum advantage, real or imagined, that they can get away with. How many of these parents would have been better off to take the money they've spent on their kids athletic endeavors and put it in the bank? Many could have payed for the college education they are trying to earn just by folding up their money and sticking it in their pocket.

I don't think there is a fix. It's a societal issue, win at all costs, concentrate on this one sport that might get your marginally gifted or above average athlete into some college. Any college. There's no 3 sport athletes because the coaches for their sport have to have them all year or they have to be playing AAU ball to get 'noticed' or some guru has told them they have a better shot in sport A than in sport B. Face it, the best athlete on your team would be the best athlete in the other sports too given the same opportunities and choices. It's ego driven and it's wrong. Let the kids play.

Gosh! Sadly, you've told it like it is... Now, I'm not one that says to children, 'you can be anything you want to be'...because, if you've lived in the 'real world' long enough, you know that ain't necessarily true. It takes politics sometimes, a break here and there and God's grace. Craig Bradshaw, for example, is, I'm sure, doing what he wants to do. BUT, and I never even saw him play either, I believe he could've probably been as dominant in football AND baseball, had he chosen...or been allowed ???

KB, I think ALL HS coaches should be held accountable for not doing all he/she can to help the ones that want to, and legitimately can, play college ball. They can, and should, at the very least contact college coaches as a courtesy, especially if they've already had a few players go through their program that received scholarships. It has to start somewhere, though, and if I were a HS AD I'd make that a part of their job descriptions. When you become a coach, you're not just there to get paid, teach, coach, etc. You're supposed to be there to educate, edify, help and promote the students. So, what would it hurt if you told a few of your cronies at the next level about the 'special' one that everybody (who's seen 'em play) knows can play on some college team? Heck, if I was a college coach, I'd appreciate the 'heads up' especially with travel budgets the way they are today.

  14. KB, I'm prayin' for ya, too...that you'll forgive these hypocrites!

Another 'observation'...it's funny how the DL poster likes to brag about how they've been able to 'home grow' all their talent and still win so much in all sports...like you've got it figured out. Didn't y'all get trounced by almost 40 and 30, respectively, this year by CPA? Man! I'll bet that'll humble a CofC brotha...in a hurry!

  15. ...What I admired about the game the most was the great sportsmanship displayed by both teams after the game. Hardly ever see such long time rivals hug after a hard fought game. Great mutual respect. Props to both squads!!!

Amen! In all my frustration I failed to mention this. Thanks! Absolutely good to see!!

Also loved the student/other athletes section by WH. Sycamore does it and I wish it was done by all the other schools, including ours. It may even be worth a few points...

Congrats to Sycamore. A one-team race ain't any fun.

  16. Memo to the respective coaching staffs of White House and Greenbrier after tonight's game:

WHY IN THA WORLD Y'ALL DON'T START AND PLAY DYLAN DORRIS AND KENNY LAYMAN AGAINST A TEAM THAT HAS NO POST PRESENCE IS BEYOND ME AND A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE THERE TONIGHT! Heck, I'd play 'em anyway, but they didn't even start!!

AND WHY OUR COACHING STAFF DIDN'T DO ALL IT COULD TO GET NICK YOUNG OPEN FOR MORE 3's IS BEYOND ME, TOO! INSTEAD, THE HOTTEST SHOOTING KID ON THE FLOOR WAS FORCED TO FOUL OUT. HMMM...

    Just sayin'...

  17. Well, the streak is over. After losing 4 in a row, Westmoreland came to visit on Senior Night. Apparently they thought they were going to punch WH in the mouth and leave with a win. They ran into a bunch of frustrated Devils, and were seen picking themselves up off the floor all night. It was a rough, physical game, but our guys stood toe-to-toe with them. There were bodies flying all over the place all night. Three technical fouls, and a meeting at half court with all three refs and every player on the floor at the time. It was great to see the Devils step up, play hard, and fight back. They really showed physical and mental toughness for the first time in a while. Still left a lot of points on the floor, and gave up some easy scores, though. Gotta clean that up.

Hopefully we can build on this win by carrying the same mentality into the remaining district games. None will be easy (well, one of them should be, but that's why they play the game), but, regardless of what anybody says, there's no reason we can't get on a run and win 'em all. Just gotta want to win them, put in the work, then do the right things on the floor. The talent is clearly there.

Glad to see this and even though you say you don't know basketball, I disagree. On several points you've got it nailed...in my opinion, and y'all have a good team. Heck, I think we even had to have a 'conference' on the floor when Westmoreland came to town. But, they HAVE to play physical. And I don't blame opposing players for lettin' 'em know they don't appreciate that syle of play. If you want to play football holla at us in the Fall, right?

Even though I can't bring myself to say, 'BDP,' I do wish y'all good luck the rest of the way...'cept this Friday.

  18. I certainly understand your point. It clearly is not the visitors' responsibility to plan the logistics of getting the crowd back to the lobby to pay their admission. But I would offer that, as a visiting fan, it's one's responsibility to follow the "rules" of the host school. If that means exiting the gym when asked and going back to pay, one should honor the request first and ask questions later. Coach Spencer asked a number of times and people refused to move. If there was some confusion, that's one thing; but when people started giving the "shut up, I'm not moving" wave, what else can he do?

I'm sure there were several groups that sent one representative to the table to pay for all, but he has no way of knowing which groups those are. All he can do is ask everybody to leave. If some chose not to pay anyway, they're just guilty of stealing. I'm sure someone at GHS would throw a fit if visitors from another school tried to get in without paying.

    But that's all old news...

Whatever. And nobody's guilty of stealin'. WH should've been chargin' from the get-go and there would've been no problem. Just so you know, GHS wouldn't throw a fit. If we catch someone trying to get in without payin' we'll give 'em one chance and if they don't pay we have one of our finest escort them out. Case closed.

It is old news...till next time.

  19. Thank you, I keep trying to say the truth about GB but hey what do I know. name the time and place 5-sport and I will be there- that is if the boss let's me! If she aint happy no one is happy.

Just what IS the truth about GB? Nobody is braggin' about how good they've been, how good they are or how good they're gonna be. There's just you...criticizing Connor Peach. 'Name the time and place.' Again, I'd love to, but if you have to get permission that tells me all I need to know...

    Who's your team again?
