  1. At Johnson County it would have to be Ryan Arnold. Holds school record for points in a game and then went on to score 1,600 points at Virginia Intermont College. Now an assistant coach at Daniel Boone under legendary coach Bobby Snyder.
  2. I know this post is about Bret, but John is an outstanding Christian man who loves his kids. In our local paper, The Tomahawk, coaches Austin Atwood and David Arnold both said John Dyer was the coach that inspired them the most and had a great influence on them. The sports editor of that paper, Matt Hill, got his start covering Sullivan East for the Sullivan County News (Paper was closed several years ago) and he always says good things about John and his 2000 team that advanced to the District 1-AAA Finals. When something horrible like this happens we have to come together and just pray to the Lord that his will is going to be done. I wish John and East the best. You guys looked good in our Tip-off Tournament.
  3. Prayers coming from Johnson County, where John Dyer used to coach and touched the lives of many
  4. Johnson County should win this one, but you never know. In 1997, Johnson County won one game but almost beat a loaded Hampton team. In 2002, JCHS won one game again and lost to a Hampton team by one point that nearly beat Cloudland. Now the Longhorns are the heavy favorite and I'm sure the Bulldogs will be ready. PassJC, tell your teammates to get over these so called issues and let's get a victory Friday night. We really could have a great season.
  5. My prayers also go out to this family. We sometimes forget that this is just a game. The game of life is the only game that really matters. This puts everything in perspective.

    Good Officials

    David and Danny Birkner.
  7. Congratulations on your wins over Science Hill and Cave Spring. Speaking of Cave Spring, that's where Duke standout J.J Redick is from.
  8. Bart McMillian of Tennessee High was the best in Northeast Tennessee. He won Defensive Player of the Year in Vince Redd's conference. He committed to ETSU this week. Will dominate the Southern Conference by the time he is a senior.
  9. Greg Stubbs of Tennessee High is the best coach in Northeast Tennessee. The Mountain Lakes went from being Elizabethton's conference to being dominated by the Vikings. Tennessee High has not lost a conference game since Stubbs took over two years ago.

I know in Class AA, Johnson County's Matt Cornett is among the best. He finished third in the state last season.
  11. Stokomo, you've got a good point, The small schools don't get covered by big area newspapers. In Kingsport's defense, Bobby Snyder won his 800th game, and that was the area's biggest sports story on Wednesday. If it hadn't been for that, I think that game would have been staffed.
  12. Chris Woodruff has to be up there. I think he's from Knoxville, but I don't know where he went to high school. Beat Agassi in the French Open a few years ago (During Agassi's slide).
  13. I would also have to say Lindholm as the MVP. 34 against Johnson County, 29 against Elizabethton. Stokomo, you have a special player there. Definite Division I potential. He's the best player I've seen all year. [Edited by Dukie on 1-23-03 7:13P]
  14. I think if anybody is going to win a state championship from Johnson City, it will be University High. Brandon Bradley is the first D-I prospect in the Watauga Valley in a long time. And Tony Gordon is a great coach. Good luck to the Junior Bucs.
  15. Powell Valley tennis? That's like saying Duke University football.
  16. Mark Byrd, Cloudland Dane Christman, Cloudland Justin Bishop, Johnson County Walter Brown, Elizabethton Bart McMillian, Tennessee High
  17. Butler doesn't like your 'tude. Go play hoops. GO LANDERS!
  18. Thanks Stokomo. If you look at it this way, D-B is ranked in the state year in and year out in football. Science Hill is in the state tournament every year in basketball. I don't see how drugs are affecting these teams. You're right Stokomo, drugs are everywhere, not just in the Tri-Cities. I mentioned Gerald and Kye because those are examples of players who don't do drugs and they do the right thing. Like I said, there are good people everywhere.
  19. Even the Fresh Prince couldn't have said it better. When I played ball, I was the worst guy on the team, but my parents never complained about it. I respect coaches who don't play the parent game. I used to coach church-league basketball, and I actually had a kid one time just walk on to the court without my permission. I stood up to him. I know how coaches feel, and I say thank you to the ones who provide discipline to their team.

  21. That's a ridiculous post. Gerald Sensabaugh came from Kingsport, and he's a fine young man. Science Hill quarterback Kye Hamilton is a wonderful person with good Christian parents. I believe there are good people everywhere, even in Kingsport and Johnson City.
  22. Matt Cornett from Johnson County, Vince Redd from Elizabethton and John LeSueur from Sullivan Central are among the best on the Eastern end of the state.
  23. Matt Cornett from Johnson County should be on that list.
