  1. Thank you for this post! This is exactly how I feel... thank you boys!
  2. What team / school has the BEST cheering section in the stands? Is it students, parents, a mix of both and what do they do?
  3. I'll just bet Chris would take offense to this post. I'm sure he believes there was lots of talent on that team. I'm sure he thinks his team mates for 4 years, and some team mates since jr. pro, had heart, knowlege and tallent. I'm sure Chris would take offense to anyone putting down Joey and saying he didn't have heart for the game, or Zach, or even Will, William and Hunter. I'm sure he feels like he wasn't the only player out there. There were a lot of seniors last year. I know he wanted to win just like everyone else. At least they did win 3! GO TIGERS!
  4. The "blind hog" rule. They have played the same players all season with few if any changes. Maybe these changes will give these boys the fire they've needed. They are a very young team and lack in experience but .... sometimes you just never know. This has been a horrible year and now with all the sickness on the team, it's just not good. But.... Gotta be positive!! GO TIGERS!!!
  5. The best post yet! I used to work with kids and the best thing you can do for a child is to set a good example. Most active members here are also active parents but there are way more kids who have no active parents to set that example and do the parenting. Lot's of kids figure "if he can, I can" and that's just a reality. Athletes can and do at times, spend more time with their teachers and coaches than with their parents. Does the fact that people do what they are going to do make it all ok? And I would also like to add that more boys than not look up to their coaches and put them on a pedistal, right or wrong, it's fact.
  6. Even with 2 players down the TIGERS CAN DO IT!! These boys are fired up this week. They want a WIN! They've had a rough year, since January things have gone wrong but they still work hard all week and hold their heads up on FRIDAY NIGHT! GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS THOSE TIGER PLAYERS AND COACHES!
  7. DeKalb County has a cruddy field. No dirt spots yet (that I've noticed) but plenty of holes from soccer. Our facilities are just bad all the way around but no one cares. Every football team from jr pee wee all the way up uses that feild and so does boys and girls soccer!!!! Soccer finally got their own field and for some reason can't use it.
  8. Another loss for DCHS! The boys had it, they were doing really well. Upperman made some huge mistakes over and over, and our boys just couldn't pull it. I just don't know where the problem lies. Upperman could have and should have been a win.
  9. In an earlier post we tried to determine WHO was the best coach, now let's determine WHY. What do you think key qualities are in a great coach? Strong points, ideas, ways.
  10. As a former dchs mom (both band and football) I'll say who knows. It depends on the the boys choices and the coaches choices. This game depends on if the boys want to make an effort after the first 3 minutes. I've been to a few home games this year and it seems the boys quit after they are scored on. They just hang thier heads and quit playing. Not sure what that's all about, not sure what it takes to get these boys motivated or the coaches motivated. I just hope that once this season is over the new HC can concentrate on getting to know these boys strengths and weaknesses, stops listening to some of those who are giving him really bad advice and learns what it takes to coach HS football. He needs support from all directions. The radio said last weeks game was the lowest gate in years. I think he will be great with time. I think the team will gain strength under Coach Trapp. I love this game and this school and I really hope they pull off a win.
  11. It's the same everywhere, winning = fans and loosing = critics. I have to laugh when I see a bunch of spectators standing around "solving the teams problems" but when the coach appears, everything is grand - "things just didn't work out". Those tried and true fans will always be. Others can stay at home.
  12. How can we win this game? How can we at least show up at this game? Good luck Tigers! Fight hard!
  13. I couldn't agree with you more oldsc7. That's absolutely what should happen. But everyone knows it doesn't always happen as it should. As for the person who stated the starters parents have a hard time in the stands, I've been right there with you too. My son started every game his jr./sr. years but he worked hard and earned his spot. He had his time on the bench and as hitting dummy in practice. His best freind never made it and guess who we sat with at every game? yep, his best freinds parents. Not an easy thing to do.
  14. While your question has an obvious answer, it's not always obvious to everyone. I have seen it many times as I'm sure a lot of people have - even on the HS level. The kid whose parent is in the quarter back club or runs the chains or does stats or brings kool-aid or even makes a nice $ contribution, gets more playing time or more opportunity that the one whose parents work and can't do those things. Of course an athelete at any level should be made to earn their spot and be made to KEEP thier spot. On the same hand, every athelete should be given the opportunity to earn a spot no matter who thier mamma and daddy are, but that doesn't always happen either.
  15. Actually they are both certified teachers. Trap was granted a waiver (by the tn state board) to teach a subject (math) he was not certified in because he took some advanced math courses in college and the school is in dier need of math teachers. There were 2 other teachers waivered to teach in subjects they were not "certified" in due to a shortage. Webb is a certified teacher as well. The other 2 are not (alexander / young) but could be great assets to the program. You know we could go back in time and look at the opportunity this program has had and blown. They had a good asst. coach at one time that could have taken the program by the ----- and ran with it. He was already making a huge difference and worked with Cantrell. But he picked on the wrong kid and made the wrong mamma mad and he was "done away with". They had another chance to get an outstanding coach that is now at watertown, but they blew that one as well over a few hundred $$$ they were not willing to pay and took Cantrell back instead. Point is, you are very correct in stating the admin.s, need to get behind the program and throw some $$ at it and some attention. Attend some ball games... show someone you are as willing to support football as you are basketball. You should conitnue to come out and support the TIGERS! The boys NEED you! On my pro's and con's list are many things, many reasons "why". I try to support the coaches in question because they did step up and accept a program that was in huge financial disarray, promises unkept, players done wrong, admin on thier backs from day one, a team that gets no respect from other teachers or community, and a team that had been let down and done wrong. (can you tell the boys are my #1 thing?) They must learn. They don't know these boys and these boys aren't going to give trust over easily again. I could go on and on about what the previous coach did but he's gone and that's the only fact that matters. He QUIT. He says that $2000 was promised but nothing was every in writing, no one knew about it until he and his buddy started looking elsewhere for a job and if you know the situation you know why his buddy started looking elsewhere. There's a very long personal story there. Anyway, even other teachers in that school will tell you they were witness to the fact he was told he wasn't up for that money because that all takes place very early in the year for the following year. I guess you already know that since you are or were a teacher. All I can tell you is he's a good bull crapper. He hurt this program and I'm not sure if you had Phil himself walk in he could get this program up and running as it should be. I'm going to give these guys a chance and hope for the best. Everyone had to start somewhere... even Phil.
  16. What do you think is going to happen this week with PEARL CONE? Any predictions?
  17. Yes, I do know these guys are in way over thier heads. Yes, I do know all about this new coaching staff, from personal experience. I don't care that a "great" coach contacted the school one week before, Coach Trapp had already been hired at that point. I'm glad you have coached and I'm glad you are so knowledgable but a few words to you dear friend. This program was in the crapper long before Fuller came along and he didn't help it one bit. We had 16 Srs., all tallented, all strong, all with some level of ability and we still barely pulled 3 wins and had one of the worse seasons ever. Fuller made no contributions to that but he did play with his kids on the side lines at the jv games! Cantrell had been there to long and had lost his effectiveness as a coach. He coached one kid and now that kid isn't even attempting to play in college. Is Cantrell a nice man? YES! Is he a decent teacher? Most of the time, but he's no football coach! Farley was a joke, he also coached one kid (one player). Vance was a decent coach but he made some mistakes or was framed, who will ever know the truth about that. And then comes the Fuller/Harrison team who couldn't maintain or control their compulsions. It was time for a change here and if Fuller was any kind of real man he would have stayed and stuck it ou and kept his promises to these boys! But he (and his buddy) walked out and he walked out on a lot more that football. Now, I say give these guys a shot. yes, they make stupid mistakes but they will learn just as anyone has too. If you are such a part time fan that just because they are having a bad year, just because the coaches are learning and just because, then we don't need your $6. We've been having bad years for 35 years!! You SHOULD stay home or maybe go watch Gordonsville, Cannon or whomever you favor. This sport is about the boys who wear the uniform. They need our support! They need our butts in the stands, supporting them.
  18. Aw c'mon... DeKalb County didn't let anyone go.. they walked out! They quit! They picked up their toys and went to play someone else. The "good asst" slithered out from under the door and wasn't even present at any summer work outs! That "good coach" lied and walked out as well. How many times did his story change??? At least 3! The only thing those two "coaches" did was cheat the kids. Those boys will rebound, they learned their lesson the hard way about trusting a coach. It's a really sad, sad story but any one of those boys will tell you, their trust was broken and they learned a hard lesson. Yes, indeed, those "good coaches" walked out on those boys and more! They've done it before and they'll continue to do it again. Believe me, we KNOW what we "lost" ..... not much!
  19. Yes, Cannon County got lucky. DeKalb County is having a rough season. They have 4 new coaches who took the program over less that 3 weeks before their first game! Not one of them have ever coached High School Football. They had a lot to deal with in taking over this team as well. From what I understand, the team was already down and out over the previous coach and the CRAP he pulled. Coach Anthony Fuller really took these boys down before he left for Cumberland County, I believe. He walked out on them less that 3 weeks before the season started. Not to mention this team is up against some big schools with no support from the administration or public... they've never had community or admin support. With only 5 Sr.s, the starting line up consists mainly of sophomores with a few jrs and srs. They are a very young team with inexperienced coaches. This team is struggeling...
