  1. The only time it got close was when it was 13-7. SP scored their only TD in the first half after a good return to the GV 48, had a nice run down to about the twenty, and had to take four shots from the one to score. Then Gordonsville takes the ball and goes straight down the field and leads at the half 21-7. SP couldn't move the ball all night except that one drive. They finally scored on the second team with about three minutes to go. The one TD that was called back on the punt was because SP had 12 on the field. I think GV only punted two other times all night. SP ran the opening KO back to the 45 but it was called back for a block in the back, ran the one kickoff back to GV's 48. After that GV decided not to kick the ball deep and allow a return. GV totally dominated the game. The offensive and defensive line from GV controlled SP's ground game and outside of the two scoring drives, probably didn't allow SP more than a two or three first downs all night. The dropped pass by the SP receiver would have made the score 28-14. What you failed to mention was that GV intercepted the ball on the next play, took the ball back past midfield, and scored about 4-5 plays later. GV 35-7 at that point. GV scores again on their next drive, goes up 41-7 with 10 minutes to go and pulls the first team. Just wanted to jog your memory as to how the game actually went.
  2. With Watertown losing to Monterey tonight, Region 4 1A finishes with Friendship first, Trousdale County second, Gordonsville third, Monterey fourth. Any thoughts on the Gordonsville-South Pitt game or any others?
  3. Monterey 20 - Watertown 17. Final in overtime
  4. You seem to be accusing the young man that hit the FC punter of a cheap shot. Knowing the young man that hit the punter, I would say that nothing could be further from the truth. After having his own leg broken and having to sit out there is no way he would intentionally injure an opposing player. I talked to the young man after the game and he was almost physically ill about the injury. I will also say that he is one of the most outstanding young men I have had the pleasure to know. Courteous. Respectful. And currently in his second year at West Point. To even suggest that he would intentionally "cheap shot" an opposing player is in my opinion ridiculous.
  5. Regarding the 20 yard penalty: It happened on the opening kickoff. It was a 5 yard facemask called, then an unsportsmanlike conduct called against the G-ville bench for arguing the call. The reason they were so upset was because the line judge was standing within a few steps of the play and didn't throw his flag but another official threw his flag from 10-15 yards away. One other point: If I recall during last year's game there was a personal foul called against a FC player for spearing Jordan Davis in the knee at the end of the play. My point is both teams have had their share of cheap shots over the years.
  6. To say there is no arrogance coming from Friendship is like saying there's no rice in China. How many region championships has FC actually won? One or two? How many with TC in the mix? Zero? As far as predictions go, I don't know. I honestly don't believe that FC can beat Gordonsville and Trousdale in back to back weeks. Maybe they can win one out of two but I don't believe they can win both. If they do I will be the first to tip my hat to them.
  7. You contradict yourself so many times that it makes it hard to understand what point you are trying to make, even after you've posted several times to make your original point. You continue to say that FCS has little to gain. ALL THEY HAVE TO GAIN WITH A WIN IN THE NEXT TWO GAMES IS A REGION CHAMPIONSHIP, #1 SEED IN THE PLAYOFFS, AND HOMEFIELD THROUGHOUT THE PLAYOFFS. Your response will be that you were talking about what they have to lose, not what they have to gain. I'd say they haven't won anything yet to lose. If they beat Gordonsville and TC, I'll be the first to congratulate them, but it seems to me that you are counting your chickens a little too quickly. They sit in first right now, but there is still a lot of football left to play.
  8. Get your quotes straight. Your original statement was that Friendship had nothing to gain. Your original stament was that Gordonsville had nothing to lose. You were wrong with both statements. You never said that FC had everything to lose until you started rambling during the above quote. If you originally meant that FC had everything to lose (not loose), then type what you really meant the first time.
  9. I hope FCS comes into this game thinking they have nothing to gain. Usually when someone makes the "nothing to gain/nothing to lose" statement, they say it out of a feeling of superiority. The underlying intent of this statement seems to say " We shouldn't even play this game because if we win, we haven't gained anything but if we lose, then there goes everything that we have worked for. Why should we risk losing our status as the number one team in the state by actually playing out our region schedule? WE'RE FRIENDSHIP CHRISTIAN SCHOOL!! EVERYONE ELSE SHOULD FIGHT FOR SECOND PLACE AMONGST THEMSELVES! NO ONE IS WORTHY OF CHALLENGING US FOR THE REGION CHAMPIONSHIP" Such arrogance.
  10. For Gordonsville to win they will have to cut out the stupid penalties, stay mentally sharp throughout the game (stay with the schemes on defense and not get fooled for the long ball), and take advantage of the opportunities when they present themselves. Penalties have been a problem for us all year. Last night was just another example. Fortunately we weren't seriously hurt by them, but you can't give a team like TC any extra advantage. If we get the ball off a turnover (like last night on the punt) we have to take advantage and when we get the ball close to the goal line we have to score. I know this sounds like stating the obvious, but at times this year.... Every player in BLUE should have to watch the tape of Jordan Davis on special teams last night. That's the way a special teams player is supposed to play. MY PREDICTION: The streak finally ends...Gordonsville 27 - Trousdale County 21.
  11. Tell BigReid that next year, with parking being at a premium at G-Ville, he can park at the Keystop and I'll give him a ride to the field.
  12. We'll see you tomorrow night. After about nine thirty tomorrow night, good luck to your boys the rest of the way.
  13. I won't run. More than happy to pay off my bets if I lose. Thirteen points was just too much to pass up. Win or lose, wanna go double or nothing on the Jr High game on 9/20? I've got a vested interest in that game this year. Tell ol' Big 'un to make plans to go to Gallatin with me this year to see some roundball this winter. Got an interest there too.
  14. Like I said, I'm just trying to figure out your meaning of your post. That and trying to get your goat a little bit.
  15. For the purpose of this forum, let's bet an owlburger and a Mt. Dew. If you want to talk about a little something more significant, we can talk tomorrow night.
  16. I just wanted to get a better understanding of what you meant. Your post said: That guy said I heard ya'll played alright against them, and I said, we did at times, until we turned the ball over, don't really see how that is making excuses According to what you wrote, you played well until you turned the ball over. If that was actually the case then you did play well for two plays. But if I remember correctly the first of those two plays was a fumble that SC recovered.
  17. But you turned the ball over the first time on the third play of the game. I was just wondering if you thought you played well until then. That's what you said.
  18. Does that mean you played well until the third play of the game?
  19. what time is the game and where does walter j. play their games at?
  20. Reid, What is SC's junior high looking like? RW
  21. You'd probably be more than welcome. You pay taxes on the Gordonsville roads the same way the Gordonsville folks pay taxes on the Carthage roads.
  22. The first thing the DC team needs is some community support. If they can play well enough to get the crowd not to leave after the halftime show, they should probably consider the season a success. More people come out to watch the band than the football team. I'm not talking about the parents of the players coming out to support the team, I'm talking about the whole community. Smaller schools in neighboring counties (Watertown, Gordonsville, Smith Co, Upperman, Monterey) draw three and four times the crowds that Smithville does at the beginning of games and probably ten times as many at the end of games. There is no reason that Friday nights in Smithville shouldn't be as special as they are in some of these other places. I think it will take more than a couple of years for them to be competetive in this region. It is true that there was a lot of turmoil last season, but nobody has stated the fact that Coach Trapp never coached above the Jr. Pro level until last year. He was in over his head from the get go and it will take him quite a while to catch up to the other coaches in the region. To jump from coaching 11 year olds to coaching against White House and Pearl Cohn was probably way too much to ask of anyone. I'm glad there seems to be some pride and heart being instilled into the football team, but until the coaching staff is up to par with X's and O's with the other coaching staffs in the region, pride and heart will only carry you so far.
