Another high school football Friday morning is upon us... 33°F when I got up this morning! I love real football weather, especially when a great game is expected. Good luck to both groups of kids, stay healthy, play hard, make some memories!
Charlie and crew will be rolling down the interstate with the Polk flag flying and hit the Beene at about 6:30 EDT...

Thank you. Great game against Sequatchie. Your boys played hard all the way through the game. I'm. Just sick that we lost against Signal and Polk. We are a better team then both of them. Just not on the that day. Irishtrickster is an idiot .
Notre Dame scored 1 offensive TD in those two games. I agree that you are "sick".
Which part of your team is better, the QB that threw three picks, the WR that dropped a wide open TD pass, your lineman that were carried off the field... but you were alot better at lining up off sides, false starting, and taking more than 25 seconds to get a play off.

Thanks, I completely understand the volatility of the quads.
-
This Pirate team has progressed a long way from what they displayed in the Hixson game;
Is it that SP has progressed since the Hixson game or has SP's competition regressed?
-
Where do you see Smith Co at if they win out and finish 6-4? And I know Upperman is solid as #1 seed if they are 10-0, but how far do they drop if they finish 9-1?
I don't want to speak for Gerry or step on his toes, but I'll take a shot at this and let him correct me if I'm wrong.
If Smith wins out and gets #2 in the district at 6-4, and is in Quad 2, most likely they would have a 4 seed behind Upperman, Polk, and Notre Dame.
If Upperman ends up 9-1, they still are #1 in the district, but could slip to a 2 seed behind Polk, if Polk were to win out. I believe Polk could edge them on "quality" opponents.

Wimberly #21 is our best defensive player IMO...it seems he is in on every tackle
#21 is around the ball all the time. Getting Pittaway back has added to the defense (and offense) by taking some of the pressure off of Miller and allowing more platooning for the linebackers.
Miller is a good linebacker, but when he puts his hand on the ground, on the D-Line, he is unblockable!
These pie-rat fans are just poor mouthing on here. They learned in 2009 that talk is just talk. I still remember all the "speedway" talk, and how Polk couldn't hang with the speed of SP,, and I remember the silence of the home crowd when Polk made it 21-0 early in the 2nd... ah! good times, goooood times! I also remember 2011 down there when Polk was lucky to not get mercy ruled.
But, back to 2013...... I really think this game can go either way. Polk has had a few "flat" or "uninspired" moments this season. I will go back to what I have said, I believe Polk can control the line, but can they contain SP's playmakers? They have faced playmakers from other teams and faired ok.

Polk Co beat Notre Dame on the field.
-
You're a blue devil fan but don't know what class they are.....? Get back in the kitchen!
-
You asked after the Bradley scrimmage if SP had ever been mercy ruled at home. I thought that was your way of predicting it. SP might be lucky to stay in the game with Polk.
I knew what you were referring to, that was then, just poking at the Pirate fans. I'm guessing both teams are different now than during fall preseason.
-
Thanks Charlie. I believe we would stay in Q2 though don't you?
Yes, it seems it would be Westmoreland.
-
Quick question. After week 7, Notre Dame was in the 5 slot and Sequatchie was in the 3. After ND defeated Sequatchie Friday, I was anticipating them moving into the 3. Instead they moved to the 4 and Westmoreland came into the 3. If Westmoreland loses to Harpeth this week, would that move ND to 3? Thanks
Hey vol, keep an eye on Tyner, they can get in as a runner up and that may push Someone to Q3 and shuffle the Q2 seeding.
-
Hey Charlie, do you think SP will get mercy ruled Friday?
No....
-
Boyd is not good!And....Tell me something I don't already know.
That may be something you really know, just can't admit.
14-7...?? WOW!
-
You may want to use different descriptions for what happened at that scrimmage.... The "ran all over" that Polk did was a little different than the "ran all over" GB was doing.GB ran all over them but Polk ran all over us too.I think Pitt has a shot with all the athletes you guys have,Dont get me wrong Polk is a solid team no doubt.I would not be surprised if Pitt won.Miller is more than a load!Good luck to both a stay healthy.
But I'm sure the other compliments are appreciated.
Now to the game, I think Polk will control the line on both sides of the ball and control the game. Polk has faced teams with as good or better skill players and came out just fine. But, they have had their "flat" moments.... And it has cost them.
Charlie is looking forward to the visit to the beene.

Notre Dame beat themselves. All though we lost I wasn't impressed with Polk. They scored early when all starters weren't in the game. A few kids suspended hurt us(came late to football meetings late). We started the game with 2 backups on o-line and then we lost another starter on an injury and we still moved the ball. Our defense is stout our O will be fine . I look forward to seeing them in the plafoffs.
Notre Dame was missing some players, ok. Polk doesn't recruit, let's call it even!
-
See Charlie Boy, you admitted it too. Bradley, Notre Dame and Sequoyah are all better than SP.
Yeah, I said after the pre season scrimmage at Bradley that this SP team wasn't the same caliber of SP team that I had seen there in the past few seasons.
And those three schools should be better, right? One is 6A, one is 4A, and one recruits! All I care about is that Polk is better on October 25. We can discuss that later, on the 1A/2A board, under the proper thread.
-
Charlie is looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. It's hard for me to believe a few players being out has this much impact on a team. Both teams really need this to keep the playoff hopes alive.
With that said, I'm not buying, I'll take McCentral.
-
They have played 4-5 teams better than SP. Bradley, East Ridge, Sequoyah, Walker Valley are all better than SP. Polk will have no problems.
Not to get too off topic, this discussion will kick off in earnest in about 15 hours. If Roy get's the website up on time!
But, stop all that poor mouthing, SP ain't dead! I would say Bradley, Sequoyah, and Notre Dame are better than SP, East Ridge was a fluke and I don't know how Walker Valley scores on anybody!
Polk should win out, but lets get one at a time. I think Polk beats sweetwater and gets some young kids in, but I quit predicting scores after the ER game, because who knows which Polk attitude is going to show up?
-
I assume if East Nash and LA both win out to week 10, then the winner of that game will get the 2 seed in Quad 3? Where will the loser of that game drop to?
It looks as if the winner would get the #2 seed and the loser would fall to a #5 or #6.
Remember though, this is all a guess. I'd say the #1 seed in that quad is likely a lock.

At week 7, there are still 10 teams that are not in the 3A playoffs that have a legitimate shot at still making the playoffs based on remaining opponents assuming that it takes 4 wins to get in. They are:
Bledsoe (2-5) and Grundy (2-5) play each other and each should be favored in one other game, so one of these two should reach 4 wins.
Douglas (2-5), Fairley (2-5), Frasyer (2-5) and Westwood (2-5). Of the 12 remaining games these 4 teams play, 8 are against each other. Odds are that probably 2 of these 4 gets to 4 wins.
CAK (2-5) is favored for 2 more wins.
Red Bank (2-5) is favored for 2 more wins.
Sweetwater (3-4) is the last team out right now with the lowest tie breaker of the 3 win teams, and is favored to win 1 more. They would still have a low strength of schedule tie breaker and would be the first 4 win team out.
Milan (2-5) is favored to win 1 but has an upset chance at 2.
So it looks like there are at least six teams out today (maybe 7) that could be in. Look for this to go down to the last week and cause major shuffling in the brackets particularly Quads 4 and 2.
I think Tyner will be favored over Red Bank. Tyner plays a tough schedule and had to forfeit two wins.
Good analysis!
-
Yes there will be 16 teams in 3A playoffs that are 1 and done. Thats how single elim tourneys work1 and done.
-
Harpeth has 5 wins now, they will be in the playoffs.Harpeth? Nope.
As for Grundy, wins over Bledsoe and Cumb. Co, gets them to 4 wins, and as coachrus stated that is usually enough. If Bledsoe beats Grundy they could get to 4 wins,, plug them into Grundys spot.
It won't be exactly like this, but somethings are relatively secure... It's the bubble teams that stir the mix.
-
call me crazy or dumb, but if the Redskins pull this one out, they will have a good chance at 5-5
How about I call you both........ COME ON MAN!
I know that you know what you are saying here!!!!
5-5 ain't going to happen, but 4-6 will get you in the p-offs in most years!
-
I corrected some of the geography mistakes and took Stewart co out.. Like I said, I know it won't be like this but why not make some guesses, however uninformed some may be.
I guess I could just add last friday's results to the TSSAA list and post it a day earlier than they do,,, but that's not how it's going to be in 3 weeks either!
I was interested, so I whipped up a spreadsheet and thought I would share.
Enjoy, discuss, berate, ignore,,, whatever you want!

You're right. I do have it figured out. Those homegrown Polk boys whipped your ND recruits.
Jerry Jones would be cleaning my glasses!!
And the reason I didn't ask, is because I don't care.
