  1. sorry, but please look at where those are from....middle tennessee...in case you did not know there is a west and a east tennessee and your middle tennessee newspaper does not cover those sections..... they MAY be the leaders in middle tennessee, among those schools who have reported that information to the tennessean..... so please be corrected...they are not the leaders in the state...... 2. i am sure that the injured player, his family, coach, and school community are sad that this situation occurred and that it should be over by now..... and it should be over.... i am assuming that the game was played in bedford cnty.... since the term grand jury was used....this means that the DA for bedford county presented this matter to the grand jury (a group of bedford cnty citizens) who determined that probable cause was present that a criminal offense occurred... since this is misdemeanor event, the DA would consult with the "victim and his family", normally, absent their desire to prosecute, the matter would be dropped....... in this case, the DA has (1) received request from the family to prosecute, or (2) the DA has taken it upon himself to present the matter to the grand jury, for whatever reason......however, keep in mind that the grand jury had the authority to end the matter....we were not in that room so we don't know what happened..... i am sad that this event has been made out to be more than what it is....an accident....... those that hold positions of trust (ie coaches, police officers, preachers, teachers, etc) are held to a higher standard than the general public, even though they are the same as the general public.. that is being a human being.... one definition of "justice" is the upholding of what is right and fair..... many people will form their own opinion on what is right and fair... for me, since there was no intention, i am quick to forgive.... i am thankful that i can do that....

    OC vs Covington

obion can def win this game......if they show up focused.. obion will score, that is for sure, as the offense they run is extremly hard to shut out... the question is can obion d stop cov run attack....speed kills.... cov has the speed..... if obion can stop cov run attack, then obion wins.... good luck rebs
  4. the horse....yo bigdogdaddie, that brought back some memories.....down at my old high school, they were the rebels and dixie was the fight song......but the Horse was by far the crowd favorite.... does any bands still play the Horse....if not, they ought to cause it is a cool song......
  5. honorable mention goes to shane normandin at dyersburg high.... thus far this season, as a junior, he has kicked almost all of his kick-offs out the back of the end zone.... he is averageing about 43 yards per punt, not too bad, but his hang time has been excellent for a junior....at about 4.3.... he may not be the best.....but i would dare say he is in the top 5... keep the good work up shane.....
  6. i'll take the bobcats....... yo jroc24, tell ur qb (shelton) his first cuz is now the second string qb, as a freshmen, at dyersburg..... i guess that just shows they must grow football players down in mcnairy....
  7. ditto here msgov.... as i stated earlier, it takes a special type of person to be a coach.... even more, it takes a VERY SPECIAL person to be a coaches wife and sit in the stands with the parents, fans, and, well, i leave that one out
  8. ref to caffeinefree post...he hit a player what if it was my son, then appology accepted, because it was an accident...that is what i teach my son.... and something else, i teach my son to respect the coach and play to your potential......if you don't like the coach, then keep your mouth shut and still play to you potential....the lesson he learns is that when he is an adult, he will work to his potential, no matter how he feels about his boss... it is obvious that if you did ever coach, then it was the community center because if it was putting bread on your table, then you would look at it differently...... most coaches who coach for a living are special people...they understand what interscholastic sports is all about and the roles that they play in developing todays kids into future members of this community.... no, i am not a coach or a school teacher, but i def understand the walk that they have..... an accident is an accident...stealing juice is not an accident....... at least not in court..... i am sure that the coach regrets hitting the player, the punishment of a 1 week suspension is not near the punishment that he will put himself through..... should he be punished, sure...... and if the player who was hit decides not to play because of the event, no matter how good he is, well then see ya, cause there is no room for i,i, me, me on a team...... i would rather have my son play on a team with just 15 players who learn about team work, hard work, dedication, then play on a team with 75 i,i,me me, players along with their parents, fans, and pink panties.... [Edited by mg on 9-2-02 12:10A]
  9. now i know why i am not a coach....... it takes a special person to come into a community and to take losers and make winners out of them.... if you lose they call for your job... if you accidentally hit a player with a helmet, trash can, coffee cup, they call for your job..... if you don't play johnny, they call for your job.... i guess head coaches need to focus on how to be a politican....and how to motivate without raising your voice.... and most importantly how to wear pink panties with your uniforms..... this post, along with the post about the oak ridge coach is exactly what problems high school coaches must overcome before they can be successfull...that is parents, fans and pink panties.... 10. dyersburg wins this one 27-8, but it cost them... the trojan jr signal caller was taking control of the game with a 14 -0 lead at the start of the second quarter when he went down.... the qb broke his ankle and will be out the season.... the sophmore qb finished the job... 4 freshmen started for the trojans this game.... dburg is very young this year and it is obvious that this season will be a growing season for them... but look out cause the 7th grade all the way to the jr class has great talent coming up...... dyer cnty could not counter dyersburg speed, however played hard the entire game.... one thing is for sure, if you have not seen dyer county's new facility, well you need too, it was one of the finest stadiums in the state....
  11. good luck rebs.....hope you kick t town..... FCHS class of 78 [Edited by mg on 8-27-02 10:26A]
  12. these are the facts as they were reported to me....however keep in mind that i was not there, this information is from a person who was though.... this was a rotary club meeting and they feature the coaches as guest on a meeting day.... several in attendance kept pressing the coach for a comment on the game......and he asked "what do you want, a score?", and he said well i hope that we win 28 to 0.... the news reporter was not there.....he is a "new" reporter from upnorth...you know, one of them transplants.... one thing led to another and before you know it, it went from i hope, to i guarantee a 28 point victory in the sunday sports section...... the reporter did not confirm the story with the coach.... if you check the coaching statistics for all coaches in tennessee, you will see that this coach is one of top coaches in this state who has been coaching for a while......his record speaks for itself.... and he is well respected....his previous under studies are now head coaches at milan, martin westview, and other schools out of state... and many have won state championships.... just a warning here, if you can remember the legandary coach john tucker at milan, well this coach is a lot like him..... he won't loose sleep if some dip sticks on coacht loose respect because of some comment he made.....he sure has not lost respect of this community or the fans of dyersburg trojans....

    Drug testing

the 4th amendment of the constitution prohibits unreasonable search and seizure.... which is why the police just cannot walk into your home and search your house just because they want too...... you have no constitutional right to play sports or toot a horn in the band......that is a privilege vs a right..... i am a big supporter of the constitution, i am against living in a police state....however, using drugs is illegal and what is the big deal with making requirements for extra-curricular activities, so long as they are not discriminatory? athletes should be tested......we promote that athletics teaches team concepts, develops leaderships skills, and etc...... to be a athlete should mean being a positive role model in your school..... requiring a blanket drug testing rule for all students is a violation of the 4th amendment.....for teachers however, that may be a different story.... if teachers are considered as civilian employees (that is not employed by the county or a municipality), then they probably could be drug tested....if they are employees of a county or municipal government, then they can only be tested if in a "safety sensitive" position, ie a school bus driver..... i know that i am rambling....but lets put this thread to rest...... lets remember what interscholastic sports is all about....developing leaders, teaching team concepts, building positive character for our community....that also carries with that having strict discipline and being DRUG FREE....
  16. 3 way scrimmage on thursday @ martin westview dyersburg 1 westview 0 henry cnty 1 westivew 0 henry cnty 1 dyersbrug 0 all three teams looked good....henry cnty was the most improved from last year as both dyersburg and westview pretty much dominated the pats at last years scrimmage.....however not this year as the pats return almost everyone...... 2a martin westview, 4a dyersburg should have another good year..although it is a reloading year (not rebuilding) for both teams..... henry cnty has improved a great deal over last year....they should too have a great year...
  17. dyersburg..henry cnty and westview had a three way scrimmage this afternoon..... results for first string.... henry cnty 1 westview o dyersburg 1 westview 0 henry cnty 1 dburg 0 these teams scrimmaged last year and without a doubt the most improved team from last year is henry cnty... westview will be down a little from last year since they graduated many great players, however the 2a school looks as if they are set to make a strong run for a regional championship..... 4a dyersburg graduated 16 seniors from last years 8-2 squad, however, this young bunch of trojans look more like a reloading year vs a rebuilding year....the trojans should have a good season and be in the hunt for their region championship for what may be the 4th time in six years.... 5a henry cnty was by far the most improved team of the 3 when compared to last years scrimmage.....hc returns almost all of their players from last years squad...this may very well be the pats year in their region..... 18. no doubt here.... tennessee's bear bryant of high school football john tucker.....
  19. as far as region 7 goes, the four best teams will be (no particular order): bartlett bolton dyersburg northside bartlett will be the region favorite...key question is can they replace adrian?...they should be tough bolton returns their significant players, but they were thumped by dyersburg when dyersburg was healthy.. dyersburg will have the physically strongest and quickest team that they have seen in 10 years... they feature a solid outside shooter in 6'8 chatham...the surpise will be the 6'5 center "barnett" who has not played hs since his freshmen year who could develope as the regions second best post player outside of bartlets fredrick...they also feature one of west tenn top soph guards in j taylor... northside will be tough as well as they have two outstanding players in the delk brothers.... if dburg developes some chem, then the region should be between bartlett and dburg....
