I have not read this whole thread so i dont know if this has been mentioned yet but everyone should stop for a second and think about their picks for Knox Catholic to go so deep in the playoffs. Why? Last time Catholic was 10-0 they got upset in the first round by a Notre Dame team that had previously lost to them 42-7 during the regualr season. I do think it would be quite hard for Catholic to lose their first round game (against Gibbs i think?), but don't just pick them because of their record. All things said, they were beat in Division II and now are in Division I so maybe things will change...i guess we will see tonight

ummm did you honestly make a thread about Meigs County v. Tellico Plains....i am hoping you are just trying to make yourself feel better knowing that eveyone is going to pick Meigs. I mean i know anything can happen in football and always does, but not in this game. It will be a blow out with Meigs on top. So there you go, now that somone has reassured you that Megis is going to kill Tellico you can delete this thread.

Polk might have given up 21 points, but didnt ER do the same last week? maybe Baylor was a better team than the one Polk played, but the point is Polk got the job done and Er fell far short of their goal that night. Oh and also didn't ER give up 32 a week earlier and they were shut out then! maybe they will do better against Polk but i dont see it happening. Polk 27 Er 13

like i said, Howard will have no discipline and their so called powerhouse running back Rico Council will probably be a disappointment like he was last year. They predicted him to be good last year but he had no vision and ran straight into the backs of his linemen. But that might have changed this year...Polk will have a good shot just because they have both Howard and ND at home. Then again, ND will have all of their kinks worked out with their offense so it will be a great game. Megis and Grundy will be close behind and will make a run with ER for fourth. All in all like JustBeingNosy said, it will be extremely even.

Are you kidding me? you don't take a mediocre team in 5A that wins state championships. It just doesnt happen. You have to have athletes but with that said, you also do need a good coach. I do believe the George Quarles is a very good coach, but your reasons for stating that don't seem to be true. And to be honest, to build upon a state championship program is not very hard. Especially when you are the only good team in your city, of course every good athlete is going to want to go to the winning school. But like i said, it isnt like Quarles isnt a big part of the program but just because his team is the best in the state doesnt mean there arent coaches out there who could do the same with the athletes he has.

Allthough these are two very well respected coaches, it seems as if you are judging them on their winning streaks and their State Championships. I think a good coach isn't one who always wins, but instead one who turns around a program from losing season after losing season to an 8-2 or 9-1 team. I do not know the history of Alcoa or Maryville before they started the massacre of AA and AAAA so maybe they have came from a mediocre team to state champions. Someone help me out on these two teams history

I can't declare him the best, but Charlie Wiggins of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish has done an amazing job in four years. He went from 1-9 to 8-4 to 13-1(NDs best season EVER) in just three years. You have to consider him to be one of the top in East Tennessee if not the entire state or Tennessee

I do believe Notre Dame will have a tough squad to beat this year although they are only returning 2 starters on offense and 5 on defense. I believe Howard has a very athletic team but they have always had althletes, just never a coach to discipline them and it will be no different this year. As always Polk County will have a powerful team and will probably be the favorite along with Notre Dame. Polk County might have the edge considering they are playing ND at their house, but Notre Dame beat them there 2 years ago in PC, there is no reason why they cant beat them again. My playoff teams are Polk, ND, ER, Grundy. and watch out because Grundy might spin some heads this season...
