  1. You can do all kind of things with bologna-slice it, dice it, puree it, etc. Here I come on this message board with my bologna.I was hired in 1977 by KPT. City Schools to coach and teach at Sevier. That was a very fortunate thing for me at that time because I have felt lucky and privileged to have taught and coached at Sevier for fifteen years. There were terrific administrators and fellow teachers to work with. The students and athletes I worked with during those years were outstanding. I received $250 a year to coach basketball. I realize I was overpaid. When I first came to KPT. I was in a parade downtown. I fell off the back of a turnip truck and hit my head. However, I have never felt disadvantaged in this area. You don't have to call me stupid because my wife does that at least once a week when I piss her off. I have no problem with DB fans wanting to win championships. Most fans want their team to win and some fans vicariously think because my team beat your team therefore I am superior to you.I do think it is important to instill in high school student athletes that they do their very best in everything they do.Your coaches do a great job of this. You do have good coaches in football and basketball who work very hard. It is obvious to me that DB doesn't know how to win state championships in football and basketball. If you did you would have done so.You are good locally.I would like to see the basketball team win one game at the state level and the football team to get past the third round. I think this is achieveable at some point.

Truly talented teams that are well coached win championships. When I coached at Sevier we won 91% of our games in basketball for fifteen years. There were three undefeated teams. It was my fault that we lost any games. We lost twice to Johnson City in fifteen. That was also my fault because I never thought we should lose to those potlickers. We should have been undefeated for fifteen years but a few times I got a little complacent. Some of you would have liked to have been a fan because you could have talked smack.

There is a lot of politics in high school coaching.I always enjoyed playing. I worked very hard to be the best player I could be in high school. I also realized that to be nationally recognized I had to play on a great team. I made sure my team won. It resulted in my being voted the high school national player of the year. To my knowledge this has never been done in the state of TN. It was fun being on the Ed Sullivan Show. I enjoyed playing on two state championship teams in Fla. I hope you get to experience that in football and basketball. I also ocassionly enjoy talking smack. In your eye, sucker.

When I coached at Volunteer and we beat DB in basketball I know I wasn't a good sport. I didn't want to be. I rolled around on the court with Ronnie and repeatly said 'Whose Your Daddy Now'.Good memories for me. No wonder DB dropped us in basketball. If I was at DB I wouldn't want to experience that again, either. Payback can be distasteful. My wife doesn't approve this message but I really don't care.Good luck to all of you.

Yeah I remember the t-shirt you had made and were wearing that had all your accomplishments on it!!!!

  2. That's exactly what would get the point across, boycott the Season Ticket purchases. Leave the seats empty. DB must bring in $200,000 a home game counting all the tickets, merchandise sales and concessions. Hit 'em where it hurts.

I say lets start being vocal about it at Home Basketball Games.... I can get a chant going in no time.... bring some signs... make some noise, then Daniels will come to you and ask you to keep it down, then let him have it.

    FGC

This is the biggest bunch on nonsense I have ever read in my life. You and Waco need to get some signs and go down to db and have an "OCCUPY DB SIT IN", instead of getting behind a keyboard. I would venture to say some of the parents of the players would stick your signs up "where the sun don't shine". This is HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, just an extra-curricular activity of the school. This isn't the Dallas Cowboys and your trying to get rid of Wade Phillips. And the most ignorant statement of all " Leave the seats empty". Who are you hurting? The city "no", the coaches "no". The city has plenty of money, the coaches get paid if no one is in the stands. The only ones it hurts is the KIDS that put in all the time, weight room, summer practice, etc. You are an idiot. If I was a parent of a player to be there next year, I would say to keep your sorry a-- at home.

  3. We both had great running Qb's last year and we were very similar in a lot of ways. I just happen to think we were better than you. I mean, i know we were. Thanks for playing along GvilleDevilsFan, i knew i could get a rise out of you.Lol. Roll Tribe!!!!!!!!!!

Can't you see the problem GvilleDevilsFan, NOBODY in this area are allowed to win a gold ball in Football except them. You will never convince them that Gville was a better team. One week after the regular season is over their threads will be DEAD.

  4. To say that ETSU football failed because there is not enough talent in the area is funny. All other sports at ETSU seem to be fine. The problem is, that dome. Nobody like it for football. Face it, the dome is crap for football. The most people ever there for a football game was TN High vs DB way back. And to say the area does not have enough talent (as you say) is a direct slap in the face to the 2nd largest high school in the state with almost 800 more students then DB. Really, this is sad

No, according to all the DB faithful they should be able to fill a team with just their players. This area is just terrible for football (DB & SH included). There is hope every year but it never happens. Please don't go back to the national champions at TH or DB is the most winningest program in the nation! We are not living in the STONEWALL age (Oh i meant Stone age).

  5. Oh good grief! This might be the most embarrassing thing I've ever read rolling out of Johnson City and that's saying something. "Science Hill?? Science Hill???" ....talkng any smack about football at all? Really? You've been btch slapped for two decades, you can't keep a Southern Conference college program in your own town, you change coaches like George Michael changes boyfriends, and you even mention football?? Then, the icing on the cake, you challenge us to come over to JC to look at "real gold balls"..........and they're from BASKETBALL!!!!!!! BWWWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I can't even begin to put into words what a tool you look like. You personifie exactly what D-B fans think of when they picture a topper football fan. I'm thinking that a collection of Elton John and Boy George albums aren't far from your bed. Priceless, absolutely priceless!!

No, you are the most embarrassing thing that came from Kpt. Back when football was dropped from ETSU, there wasn't enough talent in this area (as it is today) to recruit from, including the mighty db. I don't care if it is basketball or marbles, you db fans would get on here and crow till the cows come home if you ever won a state championship. Oh! they did win some back in your days, GENERAL JACKSON. Also, sounds like you know about these guys you're talking about. Didn't I see you walking the JC mall with your boyfriend. HMMMMMMMMMMMM. :roflol:

  6. I was going to let it go.When you start "BANKING" on Science Hill against Dobyns-Bennett in football.Don't forget that you have already written 17 bad checks in a row.

Our football program is heading in the right direction, I know it and you will soon. It won't take Stacy long to get the players to buy in. It's probably time for yourself and WhackOff for a comeback of "winningest program" in the nation and all those MYTHICAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you need to see what a Boys State Championship trophy looks like, come on over. We have 3 gold balls in our trophy case. Oh and by the way they are not back in the 1920's. :roflol:

  7. Carolina.Dobyns-Bennett has had a few years of bad luck at the playoff level but they have been one of the best teams in the state several times in the last dozen years or so years with state semi's games three times and two of those loses were very close to the state champs in 1998 and 2000.I call that plus all the old records {most wins in the states history and 13 voted state titles}a little better then being a local power house.Just because DB has a few students doesn't mean they don't have a few at several of the Knoxville area schools as well.Sevier co,Ooltewah,Bearden,Farragut have had a year or two mixed in and Oak Ridge has played some football for many years. Now they play a little football at Maryville as well in 6A.If teams get past East TN,then the Nashville power house teams are waiting.Nobody should ever be happy 100% without a title, but there are a lot of fine players and teams around the state that have a little bit to do with why it's very hard to win a title. If it was so easy to do,then upper east TN would not have went four decades without a title in 1A-2A-3A-4A-5A-6A TSSAA football.

The local powerhouse is all you will have, PERIOD!!!!!!! FOR NOW. Never a "legit" State Championship. SH will have a better chance in years to come. BANK ON IT!!!!!! :thumb:

  8. The Arby's did provide some fodder for Big 9 Player of the Year honors.

Justin Sylvester played injured for the majority of the tournament, but did play well in the games he played in. Although the Indians almost pulled off a victory in overtime against Louisville Male, KY without him, it was apparent he was missed. He has yet to take a game over, as he has in years past, but plays well in big games and against quality competition. Stock falling.

Josh Odem had a very good showing in the Arby??™s, especially against North Carolina commit Leslie McDonald of Briarcrest Christian. He also showed out against Dobyns Bennett in a losing effort. Though the 'Toppers went 0-2 in the Arby's, it took nothing away from his resume of being the player of the year. Stock rising.

Corey Young played well in the Arby's, leading his team to a very respectable showing against very good competition. He was the only local player to make the Arby's Classic All-Tournament Team. One could suggest that it is him, and him alone, that is taking the Vikings to new heights, playing at a very competitive level. I believe he is currently the front runner for player of the year honors. Stock rising.

Carl Roberts I did not see over the holiday. I understand he played well in the Highlands Union Bank Tipoff Classic at Virginia High, helping his team to win the tournament championship. Someone from the Cougar camp will have to inform us of his play in the Bobcat Classic in Bluffton, SC. Anyone? The fact he did not play in tournaments locally may hurt his chances of earning player of the year honors. Stock unsure.

Making an argument for player of the year honors are Ashlon Adams and Jordan Edwards.

Ashlon Adams is proving to be a dominating player. He is dominating teams locally, pouring in 29 points against his former team, Science Hill, in the Arby's. He also proved he can play well against quality teams in the Arby's, but needs to play a complete game, not taking plays off, in order to make his way to the top. Stock rising.

Jordan Edwards is a dominate player locally, no questions about that. He played well in the Arby's, but was in foul trouble for most of the tournament. His inside presence on the boards is lacking at times, but he more than makes up for it with points in the paint and from the foul line. Defensively, he has the ability to consistently block shots and is a disruptive force in the paint for opposing teams. Stock rising.

Disclaimer: This is all my opinion, take it for what it is.

Hands down Josh Odem is the best player in the conference. As for the all Tourn. team, Tenn. High will alllllllways have somebody on the all tournament team whether they deserve it or not. It's their tournament!

  9. this is true with any team, but from the way east has been the last 2 games it could happen but the dome is a hard place to play. i agree i think this will be the better of the 2 games friday night i will forgo the sh tn high game to see if the patriots have what it takes to be a top contenter. if db isn't ready and let them get open shots it could be another upset for east since everyone has them near to bottom of the big 9 in preseason picks.

Toppers will dominate the game against TN High, but not the score. A Roby Witcher team will not let it be a high scoring game. You would be better off coming see this game. DB's guards along with my man Ashlon will dominate the weak ball handling guards from East. I believe after Christmas the pre-season picks will come true, except everyone will be chasing the Hill.

  10. From what I saw on the video he got 2 quick fouls in less than 10 seconds. After the 2nd he had a hand gesture. The ref waited to give him the first tech, while he was reporting this, the other ref was waiting in the wings to give him the second. I hope this wasn't in the District or Region and could have been this kids last game. I have seen 10 times worse than this in East Tn and nothing was called. I have also seen much less and technicals were called. I think the officials think the fans come to see the striped shirts along with the 10 players on the floor. I have noticed that this has gotten extremely worse in the past 10 years. In my opinion, they have a job with no supervision and do not answer to anyone. Perhaps they should be evaluated by the coaches at the end of the season. I totally agree with "dad" the referees are out of control and abusing their power.

I know I probably will get blasted from this post, and it will probably be from ref's that read this message board.

  11. This is how the District will go, round by round. This is with Crockett beating South in the play in game.

    WED

    DB over Crockett

TN High over Central (a toss up and could go either way)

    THUR

    East over Volunteer

    Science Hill over Boone

    SAT

DB over TN High/Central (either one, won't matter)

    Science Hill over East

    TUE.

East over TN High/Central (either one, won't matter) FOR 3RD PLACE

DB over Science Hill FOR THE DISTRICT TITLE

    Roll Tribe Roll

The way the tribe has played recently, I would be clearing a place in the trophy case just yet. I believe there will be upsets in the District. I believe the winner of Tenn. High/Central will give the tribe all they want. I also believe the Hill will be playing Volunteer in the other semi. If I was East I wouldn't want to be playing Volunteer on their home court facing a season ending game. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  12. Since no one has mentioned this I will take a shot. Why would the "Arby's powers that be" waste program space on putting the ref's pictures and years of experience in it. I have been to a lot of tournaments and have never seen this. Why not put something about the coaches of the teams and a little Bio on them. I came to watch the players and could care less about the ref's. This ought to be worth a few calls on down the road.

  13. TENNESSEE HIGH BETTER WIN THIS ONE!! /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> WE SHOULD BE 9-1 RIGHT NOW. TO BAD WE HAVE TEAMS THAT CHEAT TO WIN IN THE MLC...

    VIKINGS BY 20.

    ROLL VIKES ROLL

Please DON'T WORRY, those same referees will make it up in Basketball for Tennessee High.

  14. Well then we agree. I didn't even think to remember the game against DB in District last year when Volunteer almost cheap shotted their way back into the game. If I remember correctly, three of their players coming off of the bench fouled out. True that THS's offense and defense flourished in the latter part of the season but I believe it was Tennessee High's heart and drive to prove everyone wrong that it wasn't just going to be SH and DB as usual. Oh, and Turnbull, District MVP, will return with others who helped fire them to their somehwhat shocking performances.

I believe it's been a while since DB and Science Hill have been in the District Championship. Probably back in 02-03, I don't see Tennessee High back in the Championship since they won't be playing at home. I have heard the District Tournament will be held at Volunteer, "WORST PLACE EVER TO WATCH A BALLGAME.

  15. This is the way I see the Big 9

    1. Science Hill (Everyone back except Omar)

    2. D-B (A load of talent back)

    3. East (Only lost 1 starter)

    4. Central (tie) (Lost a lot but got a good coach)

    5. Tenn. High (tie) (Good coach hard to play their style of ball)

    6. Boone (Moncier is back not much else.)

    7. Volunteer (Lost everyone except Cradic)

    8. Crockett (Lost a lot plus their Coach)

    9. South (Could be South's worst team ever.)

  16. You guys have lost sight that the Vikings were penalized 11 times for 85 yards and the Longhorns 2 for 30 yards.

    tricitiessports.com has the penalties backwards.

The mark on fourth down was questionable but THS fumble on the one was not a fumble either. so we are even there.

Roughing the punter is roughing the punter its a rule. Illegal use of the helmet is a rule. You broke both so you were penalized for both. We face masked about 4 times and it was called its a rule. 45 yards on your first score was on penalties we broke the rules and was penalized.

I guess Shepherd or Pendleton would not had 300 yards between them if it were not for the refs. You guys had 125 yards total offense to Shepherds 216 so yea you guys dominated. Yea, we will see you on the mountain at the rodeo ring next year. Just like you guys said the last two years. It was the thunderstorm one year and the refs this year maybe we will figure out a way to beat you on the field.

Hampton is tough they beat Unicoi in overtime and Central gets there first win in about 8 years against that tough Unicoi team.

As far as THS AD (Pendleton) umpiring that is tough I agree, but what about Science Hills 8th grade coach (Lyons) calling big nine basketball games and a Johnson City Principal(Church) calling Science Hill games thats tough too. But I know all three and none of these guys would cheat anyone they are good people doing it for the right reasons. But I do think they are put into tough situations by the assigning officers.

You are right about the guy from Science Hill. I believe if they are going to officiate, they should be in A/AA. I know of more officials in Basketball that their kids on are on a certain team and dad still calls in the Big 9. Just because they don't officiate their own school, they still have a direct impact on the league. There is enough games in A/AA where this should not be a problem.

  17. This game was very close unlike the score says. I have never involved calls and I dont want to now but this must be said and if any TH High fan doesnt agree, oh well. They were stopped on 4th down and got an unreal spot (1 to 1 1/2 yards extra). They got a roughing the punter call that may have been the worst I have seen at any level (the seams of the jersey touched). Both of these calls lead to scores. It was not TN High making this happen but I will say I feel like it was Bristol against Mtn City in politics. I will not say that TN High may not have won anyway but anyone that says that Vikes won this game easy is a liar. I have complained about coaching but this wasn't the case tonight. The TN High defense against the run is the best I have seen, I give them that. I take nothing away from the kids but this was not right from an offical standpoint. TN High does not run the ball better than Hampton believe it or not. I personally want to beat Hampton worse than anyone but fact is they may be the best team if they play at all levels in East Tennessee this year. I know that the fans do not control the field and hope everyone had a great time but we had a chance to win this game and the officals decided to involve themselves. Obviously, I want to play another game against TN High. We lost a linebacker that had made at least 4 tackles in the first quarter and then Prudhomme late in the game. We play everybody both ways for the whole game for the most part. Our quarterback played great tonight at that position and also at linebacker. We have to do it and mark my words......... we will take this conference next year. See you you guys on the mountain next year!!!!!!!

As long as the Arby's is in Bristol, no one will be on a level playing field with Tennessee High. The same officials call Basketball. One thing that I can't understand is why in baseball (which this has nothing to do with football), that the Athletic Director at Tennessee High is allowed to umpire in the Big 9. If this is not a conflict of interest I don't know what is.

  18. This is this weeks TriCitiesSports.com NET top 10:

Why would someone like you complain about TC sports? Vikings lost and moved up in the TC sports poll. Oh, by the way I don't recognize your poll. Which I think is a joke. If the Vikings would have lost by 3 or less you would probably have them in the top 3. I had a friend, at work which is a die hard Indian fan and he said both teams looked pretty sad. No doubt those boys from Sullivan County needs to be #1. Keep up the good work TricitiesSports, you do a great job.
