  1. Sorry to offend little dude, but let me read in the paper that Oneida won a game, I can get excited about perhaps a stomping of the mighty Oakdale or just hang with my boys at Wartburg for a quarter or so and get another one of those Mighty Indian mental/moral victorys. Is getting "close" become a goal at Oneida??Do you still play sports in Oneida or just video games??? Maybe you should take your grit to the football field--it appears your team doesnt dominate there either.Get real. Get in the weight room and the gym if you want to talk trash and yes I have been there in the past. Good luck
  2. wow mr coaching you seem real knowledgeable on area hoops and really hard on the poor kid from wartburg who "believes" As a coach or former coach you know sometimes kids who "believe" take their mediocre game to another level. Yes, you are right Wartburg has convinced the community that they are the greatest. Sometimes, a little belief and cockiness can raise your level of game to advance you to the big dance in the Boro(along with excellent defense). As you are aware, in order to get a draw and a floor pass, teams must excell at defense which Wartburg does not. All you have done to those folks is poke fun at their ignorance as to what it takes to move on. Evidently, you have been there as you know. Little Phillip has bought in to this dream--please let the kid live it. Let the community live it and then in late February when they get the bats and balls out, then you can remind them of what it takes to play in the Boro in March. Maybe they can take their bus over there, watch some games, and stay at the Plaza or Holiday Inn or better yet stay in Nashville as the Boro rooms will be full and you can hit the hospitality lounge underneath and greet these boys from the floor.
  3. Powell fan, are you laughing at the score and Sunbright by adding "enogh said lol" and quoting the score???? That is what it appears?? Correct me if I am wrong?? If you are going to be that arrogant then maybe I need to start analyzing your commentary.
  4. Actually, I didnt say anything bad. I was only discussing Scott County High School in 1976. Gleaning from this kids vocabulary and animosity towards Oneida, maybe things haven't changed.MAGIC 123 why do you have animosity towards Oneida??Did someone reject you at that school?Do you even know where Catholic school is??? If you follow basketball at all, I guess you know of Matt Parton?? Give me some answers Mr. Magic or is it MSSSS?
  5. Oh yeah Written Word. I can only assume more than two kids now go to college than the class of 1976 from Scott County High School. That is how many went off to school that year. Now there are junior colleges, etc. which makes it easier than that era. Why be a smart butt?? The only stats I have seen are test scores from various schools. As you are aware, test scores are not an indication of the intellect and drive of a student. It is now the barometer. however, as schools compete against each other. The all and mighty "numbers" which has consumed state and federal government. State and Federal govt. operations are well known to me. Lastly, if you are a Scott County High School graduate from the 70's, you would know why Scott County High School hates Oneida. Or at least why they did. There were a number of school hated rivalries in the 70's which I doubt exist today or at least not to the extreme. The communications world has improved 3000% in kids have more to do than get caught up in school rivalries. School rivalries are great but the extreme they existed in the 70's fostered a lot of fights and hatred and we have enough of that in the world today without having it enflame in the school system
  6. running riot, I am bigjuicy not bball. I read alot of commentary from all schools. I have connections in the past to Oneida and Wartburg and stay more in touch with Wartburg. You sound like a Scott County High School fan?? Has the school improved since the 70's? Do more kids there go to college? I presume they do. It appears though that Scott High School still resents Oneida. Do you know why?? Is it because of their success in Basketball in the past? Their competitive football team which won the State back in the early 90's?? Is Bill Hall as good as coach as I hear?? I believe he also coached at Oneida when they were successful. I have a good friend who is a real estate appraiser in Knoxville and he brags on Mr. Hall allof the time. Young man, do you play for Scott County High School?
  7. Whoa boys!! I read a whole of lot of intellectual garbage on a basketball web site. One question, have any of you boys ever played in a Scott High School vs. Oneida game?? If you haven't played nor witnessed one of the games from the 70's, then you have missed out on why there was so much animosity and intensity. I know, my ex wife went to Oneida during that era. I was at a game at Scott High School in 1976 when the stands and every area was so packed you could not get a coke or popcorn. Every play down the floor was like a state tournament game. The fans screaming at each other. At that time in 1976, most Oneida kids went off to college and most Scott County High School kids did not. They were like on opposite ends of the social sphere. I dont recall who played for Oneida but Oneida beat Scott County pretty bad that year. You could feel the hostility in the stands. I seriously doubt that any of these issues exist like in 1976 and have no clue what has transpired at Scott County High School since then other than my friend told me that Scott County High School had a very good boys basketball coach but I know more about Oneida and the ups and now downs of that towns sports programs. I read alot of excuses on this site and I find them amusing at best. My old coaches always told me, Never Give Excuses. I think the kids spend more time reading garbage on this site than working on their fundamentals Young coaches spend more time reading the crap on this site and work on developing tons of new plays but should spend more time on the basis fundamentals of the game as well. I find I can learn more about a community sports situation by reading the garbage on this site. It is amazing how much time young people have to express themselves on here. GO CATHOLIC!!!
  8. What that means is simply this: The cocky bulldogs from the little town of Wartburg will defeat Pickett County with the rich basketball tradition. dawgs 101? Do you get it? How many states has Wartburg been to ? or even watched? and lastly how many substates has Wartburg ever participated in? Byrdstown is where Pickett County school is and those fans can tell you how many times they have been in the last 15 years. That is what I am referring to by tradition.
  9. Why do you folks continue talking about "ONEIDA" during basketball and football season? It is no secret that the kids at that school do not care about winning anymore. It is spawned from their parents attitudes and no schools in their district give them any respect. Why keep talking about it? That town has accepted mediocrity in sports particularly basketball and football. The School Administration gets more excited about their next soccer match or the next free feed for the athletes. That also passes down to the parents and teachers who pass that on to the kids there. Their District and Regional opponents could care less about soccer. Wake up and smell the coffee Oneida, you will be reading about Wartburg and Coalfield when your seasons are over the next few years. GO CATHOLIC!!! I know, I know, my family tells me so.
  10. Cool, someone who knows their hoops. I find it rare on coacht.com as I sit quietly and read opinions. the boasting of wartburg drew me out of my hole. No, I dont believe shannon can d point guards in college, no I dont believe shannon can hit threes from the point, yes i believe he has a tremendous tude to go with his game. and yes, i believe he will be a great intramural player when he goes to college. I wish him the best in maybe landing a spot with roane state and should he read this, accept this as a personal challenge.
  11. threeball, thanks for the opinion. I am sure you and i have scuffed some floors at the same time in the past? Where did you play college ball??? You mention some schools as if you have knowledge of their programs Do you think he can d college point guards though?? and shoot the three from the 1??
  12. that is precisely my point "coaching". there could have been an explanation of various reasons but hey I believe the obvious when there is a witness. Wartburg scoring table is right there to have a lot of witnesses. The referees however are not the same ones from middle school and not even the same ones from JV. If you observe a lot of head coaches, they check the greenbook before they come in at half even though there assistants know the answers--maybe Mr. Shannon was doing the same?? Okay, no one outside of Wartburg believes that. I guess the folks in Wartburg believe Mr. J. Shannon is a D-1 prospect also. What do you say Mr. Threeball? Do you think Mr. Shannon plays well enough defense to play college ball?? Do you think Mr. Shannon can stick a three from the 1 spot? Do you think Mr. Shannon with his high dribble can run the 1 in college?? Lastly, both to Mr. Threeball and to Mr. Coaching, do you even think Mr. Shannon will play college ball outside of the Roane State atmosphere??? Also, previously I mentioned Wartburg had lost Diden but I was thinking Inman who did have heart. What I was referring to with my analogy concerning other reasons for checking the green book is that some players want to know the foul situation a lot with other players. Well werent they told that by their coaches. Threeball can attest that sometimes players let coaches words whizz by them during a game. Actually seeing that in print would soak in more such as foul situations. However, it seems from the comments that it was obviously a point check. Notice no Wartburg folks defended or answered otherwise.
  13. Lastly, maybe because Coalfield hits the baseball in March, Wartburg feels the need to do so. I havent figured out who follows who there.
  14. Excellent analysis sports dude on Wartburg hoops of the past. This is 2005 and the fans feel that there is "heart" among the dogs more heart than last year. Is that because Vespie and Diden are gone??? or has their heart gotten bigger in a year??? Okay, give Mr. Shannon a break, those people who know Jeremy state he has tons of "heart" therefore, if you know Shannon, which would be the correct answer if he actually was viewing the green book? a) checking on the fouls of opponents. checking on the scoring of an opponent or opponents. c) checking on his fouls and/or teammates fouls. d) checking on the ball possession. e) checking out who the referees are. f) checking on the free throw accuracy of him or his teammates. g) checking on the free throw accuracy of his opponents. h) checking on the number of three pointers hit by his opponent. i) checking his point total. j) or lastly learning an opponents first and/or last name. There may be other reasons to be viewing the green book during the game including checking prior scoring of an opponent they have previously faced. You folks know Mr. Shannon, what was this team player doing assuming he was checking the book?
  15. Ghustler, arent they the same team as last year?? Are they better or is their heart bigger that will take them past the regionals for the first time in nearly 20 years?? What I have read, Wartburg spends more time talkin than walkin. Or was last year's ending loss a choke?? Have you ever even been to Murfreesboro to watch the State teams?? Threeball will tell you it is all defense and amazingly I heard Wartburg played zip. I wish your team the best but I have a feeling your guys will be hitting baseball in March rather than booking your rooms in Murfreesboro.
  16. thank you harvo, I am going to watch wartburg carefully. according to their kids and supporters they are the best and the team to beat. That type of boasting makes others want to knock them off. I now understand that their team history is not that good in backing it up. I might even travel to watch their games but if history repeats itself, it will not be in march.
  17. maam basketball is a total team game. by initiating comments like that is bad for a program. the kids read those comments. Individualism is promoted by inquiries like that. I am sure Cloudlands coach (if he reads this stuff) dcesnt want to hear questions like that.
  18. Has Wartburg ever made substate in that they played in a regional final??? If theY are always "good", have they been good enough to play in a regional final which would lead them to the substate or have they choked or just not been good enough? I realize my english teachers might shoot me for such a run on sentence
  19. Are Wartburg sports good?? I was reading these postings and you would think that the discussion was about a State powerhouse. Have they been to any State tourneys? Have they been to any substates?? Boys and Girls?? I dont recall reading in the papers about them. Last year they didnt go anywhere either did they? I realize past is the past but most schools that develop a reputation for having good programs continue on in subsequent years. In essence, the bar is raised and is set by the precessors and the level of expectations for each school are raised with successes. Correct me if I am wrong, but when was the bar ever raised for Wartburg?? How about football???
