  1. He's cocky because he IS that good. People who really know football & know him can tell you that. He has a football mind...think Coach Newton, but on both sides of the ball. He is not a one man show & really lets his coaches and players weigh in on what they do. He is one of the most disciplined & academics focused coaches I have known. He talks to the teachers about grades & makes sure the kids have help if they need it. He had to get some kids back on track this summer because their winter/spring coaches did not do the same. He punishes them if they need it. How many kids have had to run and sit out three games for just being disrespectful? I even think that was kinda extreme. Anyone who says that all he cares about is winning obviously doesn't know him. Tellico has nothing but praise for him. He could have run up the score & made himself & his kids look better statswise. Obviously he thought that the Tellico players were more important than the score or the stats. But he doesn't really need any help or advice on doing his job. He's doing what he was hired to do & he's doing it well. You do what they pay you for & hopefully, he will keep doing the same. If he could just teach them to hold onto the football...but we forget...the way they play is up to the kids. This will be a close game between two very strong teams. It will be all about stopping offense for BOTH teams. Strong offenses, great kickers, Central definitely faster, but Polk with alot more experience with winning.
  2. I never post, but a group of us were discussing just how tired of you we all are so I decided to post a reply. Coach Derrick has more integrity than you will ever have. Every time people ask him about your obnoxious posts he responds that Cody Price is a great kid and that's all he has to say on the matter. Unfortunately, you always have something to say. You are spiteful and slanderous & don't even deserve the attention that I'm showing you right now. If you would stop bashing our kids and our program (and that does include our coach - Our players would run through a wall for him), people wouldn't be bashing you or your kid. No one cares what you think about how our program is run...it looks like it's going okay to us. Do us the courtesy of staying off of threads related to our team AND not spewing your lies and ignorance about our coach on threads about other teams. THEN we will do the same for you. We wish all teams well. The better they are, the better they force us to be. See you October 26th.
  3. Coach Wild didn't do too hot the 1st year he was here either. I think we only won 1 game but our record improved when Coach Ray helped run the offense. They are working on fundamentals by the way. We don't get many offsides or false starts penalties anymore. If Coach Derrick could put on a uniform, I doubt we'd have so many turnovers BUT he can't. He can only call the plays. It's up to the kids to carry them out. He has never guaranteed our players a win. He says that we should win, but its up to them. He never discounts the human element. He has also not said a negative word about Coach Williams. He says that he's different and that the kids have to go by his rules which makes sense. It's not like we were doing great before this year and according to these posts when you stink, you always stink so there's no reason to think we'd get better no matter who coaches us. People didn't like Coach Derrick when we were in high school but he didn't care and I don't think he cares now. I don't understand why you people are so upset that he believes in himself and the potential of his team. Isn't that what he should do? It may take him a few years, but he'll come through because he's a hard worker and he's honest. You are not a supporter of this program and you should just drop that disguise right now. If you knew anything about this program you would know that most of those kids love Coach Derrick. They will tell you that he gives his all to the program. He works really hard. He's made sure that they had new uniforms, a new weight room and all kinds of other stuff. He's not above asking for donations or cleaning the stadium or mowing the grass. Your obviously a Coach Derrick hater. Maybe your kid isn't getting the playing time you think he deserves or maybe he didn't make the cut...who knows...who cares? The kids who think they can't win are part of the problem. If they were that worried, you'd think they would have quit already. We only need 11. I really want this to stop being about coach bashing. They're not poorly coached. The other region coaches speak very highly of him. I'd actually like this post to stop completely. Polk was rude, but that's the fun of having a rivalry. This isn't a rivalry anymore. When you're fighting your own program's "supporters/parents/worried players" you don't even have a chance. Best of luck to the Chargers and their coach.
  4. Whatever Polk does will be rude judging from the poor manners ya'll show on here. Win or lose, we'll do so with class. Yes, our coach is as good as any other in the region but I'm not sure why that's even an issue. Since you've basically said that our coach stinks and that our team doesn't deserve to play on the same field as Meigs and Polk, what's your story going to be if you lose? Can someone please tell me what the score of the Meigs/Polk game was at halftime?
  5. Let me first say, "War Eagle!!" I'm not sure what you're talking about. In your big game against the baby blue, Central was only down 7-0 with 9 1/2 minutes left to go in the game. If they were that bad, you would actually have won that game long before they gave it to you by making stupid mistakes. What was the halftime score of the Meigs/Polk game?? Who DOESN'T deserve to play on the same field?? Call it an excuse if you want, but Meigs 8 seniors & Polk's 17 do have an advantage over Central's 4. Talk your trash this year, though. The real Coach Derrick (Brandon) will develop Central's young talent & you'll be making excuses, but we'll try to be a little more gracious than you.
  6. They're not running the spread. They're using multiple formations...more of a run-oriented offense. Bledsoe is 0-week game, so you'll see it soon!
  7. Derrick's quote in the newspaper when he took the job was that his intent was to control the time of possession & limit the other team's offense. It looks like they did that pretty well, but I think McMinn actually had 6 possessions. McMinn definitely has a talented team. Most people that I've talked to were surprised that Central held their own & moved the ball. I don't think anybody has decided how Central will be this fall, but most people agree that if their performance against McMinn is an indicator, they'll do pretty good against teams their own size. Unfortunately they start playing season games the first week of school, so they won't have much time together as a team under the new coach before they're put to the test.
  8. The players are very happy and I hear the coaches are in good spirits too. The Chargers looked great! McMinn is a 5A school & so they should have a higher percentage of good athletes than a 3A school does, that's to be expected. But excluding the three scores by McDermott (a D1 prospect for McMinn), Central really shut them down. Central's coaches cut their best player a few weeks ago because he couldn't comply with the new program rules (according to other players) and had some other seasoned players quit because the new rules are too hard (according to other players). So, a fractured 3A team with a new coach with nine days of practice for some and only 1 day of practice for the baseball players that held a 5A "rival" with a D1 prospect to only 3 scores (all made by that D1 prospect)...sounds like it's going pretty good to me! What do you think?
  9. Late 80s - mid 90s were pretty good years for Central. Before the state championship run, they went 10 wins or more for a couple years in a row. Then they "stank" it up for a while. Derrick's senior year they went to the state championship (they were last seed that year and I didn't hear anybody complaining) and then Gosset's senior year they went to the state semifinals. The number of teams in a region isn't something that anybody can control, so there's never any point in bringing it up or dwelling on it. As you and many others have conceded, this is a VERY tough region (with 8 or 9 teams I think), so I think people will be happy if Central gets to the playoffs at all. I haven't heard anybody mention the "glory days." Most of the people I've talked to are very aware that it takes years to build a strong program and they know that Central is starting completely over. They're just hoping we don't get our teeth kicked in every week!
  10. Really changes the message, doesn't it? It's even funnier that I didn't notice it when I posted! That truly STINKS!!!!
  11. Well, they've been pretty content for the past five years, so...
  12. It's funny to hear him called the "new guy." The Derricks have been around here as long as anybody can remember!
  13. I think you may really like this guy, then. The DPA article definitely makes it sound like that's his goal. I do know that he's met with all the middle school principals & the 8th graders (and I think their parents, but maybe not) already. He's also ALREADY met with the rec departments mgmt and some of the coaches so that the little league will be taken care of. He and his coaches are going to be required to be involved with the rec. He coached little league here when he was in high school and college, so he knows where it starts! He is very strict, so some of the players are already a little upset, but if they want to be a part of starting a true football "tradition" they are going to have to conform. He means business!
  14. Ahhhh...I thought I was so smart too!!! Who wouldn't want to work with Monroe? He's a legend and it doesn't hurt that he's rumored to retire in the next couple years.
