  1. My daughter was the head mat maid for her Junior High team in the state we moved from. They were a great asset to the team. They did not clean the mats but they did score matches, run tables, and video tape the matches for the coach. I think having the girls show an intrest in learning about the sport helps to promote it. Wrestling often does not produce a large following and those students who show interest should be encouraged to help the team out. The girls traveled with the team and were often looked to by refs for confirmation of proper scoring. My daughter and some of her fellow mat maids were so good at it that they assisted in scoring college matches (at 12 years of age) for the University near our home. This University was ranked in the top 10 in the country. As of right now, the high school that my son will go to does not allow mat maids but I am hoping that that changes when they see the possitive influence that they can have.
  2. Being new to the area and new to the TN site, I think that limiting the posts to plus members seems to have closed most of the discussion. Most of the members posting, including myself, are not plus members....It is a shame that we, as adults can not be trusted to discuss middle school kids on this site without being limited to buying memberships. My son is in middle school and I do not have a problem with people discussing his wrestling in a possitive way. I do agree that it is a sesitive subject and does need to be monitered but why limit the actual people posting. I too have some results from Dixie and am not able to post. At this time, I have not decided to upgrade my membership. My son is in 6th grade and I do not know many high school kids in this area. Hopefully they will rethink the forum posting!!
  3. We just moved from the the Pittsburgh PA area and wrestling is VERY big there. My son was on Rob Wallers All-American traveling team last year and has been in some of the biggest dual meets in the country. We love giving him kids that can make him work...kids do not get any better if they don't wrestle kids that can give them a difficult time. We look forward to meeting up with him in the near future. My son is in GA for Dixie....Will he or any of the other light weight kids there?
  4. Where is he from??? Would love to have my son wrestle him...he is in 6th grade and 70 pounds.
  5. It was here...and gone now...wish it was still here because for a new comer like myself it gave me some great info... It mentioned some boy at 76 pounds and I am not sure of the name but if anyone knows of any light weights in Tn that a really good please let me know!!
  6. We just moved here from out of state and our son would have been wrestling for his middle school team. In other states the schools had teams just like basketball does too. These kids start at a much younger age (4/5) and in middle school wrestle for their teams then continue the season through states and some national tournaments. The middle school season starts in the beginning of November and goes through jan. when they have a HUGE tournament with all area schools and that is kinda considered middle school states. After that, they travel and go to open tournaments until states which was held in March. A group will continue trainig and usually go to Ohio Tournament of Champions. This tournament is HUGE with over 3000 wrestlers and usually more than 30 states represented held around the 3rd weekend in April. We have moved to the Memphis area and have been wrestling officially since Nov. and have found that competition is hard to find. I would love to see all the folks try to mend some fences and pull themselves together to help promote the sport in TN. Instead of fighting all the time turn that energy into something possitive and help TN wrestling grow!!! I know it can be done because I have met 2 college boys from TN when I was out of state that were great wrestlers on the college level, Shawn Cordell and Casey Brewster. On a last note....Good luck to the middle school boys from TN that are making the drive to Dixie today!!!
