  5. Hey Chad. I hate canceling a tournament and have rarely ever canceled but with pre-registration closing at 8 PM Thursday night and only 21 entries, it just did not seem fair to those traveling to PF or for our wrestling family who were planning on working the event (to make a little money for our Freestyle program). Just to big of a gamble to rely on "walk-ups". I have been asked about rescheduling, if we do, I will post the info on here. Busy weekend for wrestling. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE TENNESSEE WRESTLERS HEADING TO VA BEACH!

  8. Random thoughts. I understand the concerns that people have about the lack of showers at the venue and how showering following every match can be help prevent skin conditions. Really, a wrestler should shower after every match, if possible. However 2 things; 1. I attend several tournaments a year and as soon as the tournament is over, teams load up and go without showering (i do know that several teams that attend our Smoky Mtn Duals, do shower before leaving the venue); 2. what is the point of showering if you wear the same singlet each match without washing it and wear your wrestling shoes off the mat, including wearing them outside and in the bathroom. I have attended each state tournament that has been held in the Expo center and I attended the TeamTN AAU States last year in Cookeville. I am allergic to one thing: DUST. However, i have never gotten sick following these events. My eyes were irritated and I had to use drops. I believe the dust from last years TeamTN States had a lot to do with those big fans they turned on which was blowing all the dirt down from the rafters, regardless, it was not the best conditions. I love the high school states when they where held in McClellan but we outgrew it. I loved it at the round house, but there were several "user unfriendly" things that would need to be addressed, especially PARKING and the expense of the site rental (which I was told was paid for by a private sponsor). I
  9. I really do appreciate the kind words moon, however, there are so many people who have played a VITAL part in what has been created. Too many to name without leaving the names of some of those people out. So allow me to tell everyone who has been involved and who is currently involved with TeamTN YOU ALL SHOULD BE PROUD and I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE! THAT IS EVERYBODY, INCLUDING: YOUTH COACHES, MIDDLE SCHOOL, HIGH SCHOOL COACHES (WHO SUPPORT THEIR FEEDER PROGRAMS), THE WRESTLERS, VOLUNTEERS, PARENTS, WRESTLING OFFICIALS, SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS, AND ANY ONE ELSE THAT HAS CONTRIBUTED!
  10. That was not the intention of my post WrestlingGod. However, wipes would be better than nothing.
  11. Maybe an option to showers is to offer Body Wipes, similar to the ones listed below, to the coaches/teams. Maybe even get the a company that manufactures the wipes as a corporate sponsor who would donate the product(s) or at least a "special" discount for the Teams/wrestlers. Matguard Body Cleanse Sports Spray Defense Soap Defense Body Wipes Athleti-Derm Body Wipes The following statement is from a result of a study at a wrestling tournament in Minnesota. Soap-and-water wipes seem to be more effective in reducing skin infections compared with the no-treatment group. Just an idea.
  12. So is Pigeon Forge and Alcoa
  13. Larger school enrollment = larger pool of athletes to draw from, which is one of the reasons there are different divisions for other sports. I recall the complaining of Division I coaches about Division II schools having the advantage of Nation wide and state Wide recruiting base and this was not fair to the public schools, who did have have that same benefit. Tronado believes that only thing that matters is a wrestlers weight. What makes a wrestler a champion is having good drilling partners and competition in the wrestling room. Larger pool of athletes is a nice benefit to have to increase the possibility of increasing the numbers, quality wrestlers, in a room. Now I know that increase athlete pool is not the only factor that allows wrestling programs to be successful, coaching, admin. support, etc all play a part. I understand both sides of this issue.
  14. In the Knoxville area: Civic Auditorium/Coliseum not where near large enough to hold the number of mates need. Thompson Boling Arena will not hold the 12 mats needed and the COST would ridiculous! I know what was paid to rent it for the last 2 AAU Junior Olympic Games! The suggestion of Carson Newman and King Univ. is not a good one due to lack of space and parking. In this area you would have a few choices: Knoxville Convention Center, Pigeon Forge Convention Center, and/or the new Convention center complex that is being built in Gatlinburg (will hold 16 mats), or Walter State has an Ag Complex just like the one they have in Williamson county. One other spot is the Sevierville Convention Center/Wilderness complex. Plenty of room but expense is high. I hope they never move it to downtown Nashville, traffic and coast would be high. MTSU may be a possibility. Large arena and plenty of parking. Of all the complaints I have heard or seen stated here the ones that really draw a major concern of mine is: 1. no shower/dressing room area; 2. dust/allergies (i had to use allergy med and allergy eye drops all weekend); The people from Williamson County did a MARVELOUS JOB working and operating the event and made me feel welcome!
  15. I agree and I have brought this point up in the past. Wrestling, the grandest of all sports deserves the same treatment as other sports. Tennis, Track and Field, Bowling, even cross country, kids get the chance to compete against kids who attend high schools that are about the same size or at least same classification as their school. Why should wrestling be treated any different? Give the A/AA a few years. You will see more participation and you will see improved skill levels. I was approached by several small school coaches and parents of small school wrestlers asking me about what off season camps and programs they need to be involved. These people were excited about what the future of the A/AA holds for their school/wrestlers because they now believe they have a chance to compete on a fair playing ground. In 4 or 5 years, then re-evaluate
  16. Now I will tell you this, as happy as the Pigeon Forge wrestlers, coaches, and fans were about their State Dual Championship, they are just as disappointed in their results of the Individual State Tournament. Several were not happy with their individual placing nor the Team placement. This disappointment will be what will drive them to even greater heights than they achieved this year. I love this mindset!
  17. Alcoa has a youth program, one that is getting better each year. Coach Gossett, which by the way s not the head football coach at Alcoa, does a really good job and he has added coaches at each level of his feeder programs that also do a good job. It is very good for wrestling that Alcoa is a rising force in wrestling and especially A/AA Wrestling. Pigeon Forge and Greeneville have dominated small school duals of late and now we have a third force which will only drive each program to continue to get better or end up by the wayside.
  18. Dont think you can base the level of wrestling success on how many wrestlers from small or large schools go on to wrestle on the "next" level. Thanks to idiotic college AD's, there simply are not enough opportunities for wrestlers to compete on the "next" level. I do know this, wrestlers from Jefferson, GA are well prepared and possess the skills to compete with anyone and compete on the "next" level. Its a matter of opportunity and personal goals. I remember before the split of public and private, the uproar from wrestling coaches upset with wrestlers from other states winning Tennessee State Championships. Their outcry was heard by the TSSAA along with those who coach football who were also voicing their objection to "all-star" teams winning state football championships. Recruiting takes place on all levels and divisions, whether people want to admit it or not. Some programs, simply attract athletes/parents to want to be a part of their program because they offer a better product than the schools their children currently go to or will go to. It seems in this day and age, parents and athletes expect to be recruited on the pre-college level and some actually shop their kids around.
