  1. Some tasty ties served up in the knockout playoff round, with the first legs playing out today and tomorrow.

City-Real is the pick of the matches, several other good looking pairings.

Comprehensive view and explanation of the first-ever knockout playoffs below. Let's have your thoughts and predictions 😁

  2. Bit of an update on transfers during the window from around Europe's biggest leagues

    La LIga:

Many minor loans and recalls from around the leave, no major transfers to speak of. "Biggest" moves so far being winger Assane Diao moving to Como in Italy for 12M euros, Johnathan Bamba coming to Chicago in MLS for 3.5M euros, and the loan deal for Antony to spend the remainder of 24/25 at Real Betis. Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona a few loans to fill positions of concern, no other activity. Barcelona did manage to register Daniel Olmo after a bit of a fiasco, and may sign Marcus Rashford before the window closes. Otherwise, tame in Spain.

    Serie A:

Lots and lots of loans or small transfers from nearly every club to fill areas of concerns, with only 2 clubs really involved in permanent transfers, Juventus and Como. Juve have brought in Portuguese RB Alberto Costa from Vit. Guimarães for a reported 13.8M euros on a permanent deal, maybe more interesting are the loan incomings of Randal Kolo Muani from PSG and promising CB Renato Veiga from Chelsea until the summer. Manchester United are reportedly completing the signing of LB Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for around 30M euros, with a medical scheduled for later today. Kyle Walker joined AC Milan on loan through the end of May, the only other movement of note.

    Bundesliga:

Only 3 real transfers to note from Germany, 2 involving Eintracht Frankfurt and the other Borussia Dortmund and their sale of winger Donyell Malen to Aston Villa for 25M euros. Frankfurt have changed the look of their forward line this January, replacing the 75M euro sale of Omar Marmoush to Man City with former Marseille forward Elye Wahi, an Ivory Coast international, for 20M euro reported. Nice 55M euro positive swing for the club. Rumors swirling the last few days of a potential move for Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel, with several Premier League clubs keeping track of his apparent desire to leave Bayern this January.

    Premier League:

Predictably, English clubs have taken the opportunity in January to spend more money that any other league's clubs around Europe. 11 transfers of greater than 10M euros have been completed already, with the headline signing Man City's purchase of Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for 75M, with Abdukodir Khusanov (Lens, 40M) and Vitor Reis (Pamleiras, 37M) also joining. Villa have been very active this window also, bringing in Donyell Malen from Dortumund while selling Jaden Philogene to Ipswich Town for 23.7M euros reportedly. Other transfers of notes include CB Emmanuel Agbadou to Wolves for 20M euros, Julio Enciso joining Ipswich from Brighton on loan until the end of the season, and Real Betis bringing out of favor winger Antony to Spain from Man United on loan through the end of the season. As noted earlier, several clubs are eyeing Mathys Tel if he indeed leaves Bayern, and Man United's completing their move for Lecce LB Patrick Dorgu later today.

Questions on thoughts of these transfers, notes for omissions either intentional or by mistake, or discussion of rumors swirling are welcome, even encouraged!

    Cheers.

  3. From a United fan, it's near on impossible to believe what we're seeing around Rashford... an academy product with the potential to be a real legend going to, whatever this is now. Attitude being questioned, poor performances on the pitch for 2 years now, training apparently far below the standard required. Golden boy to outcast. AND no real protest from him or his machine about the comments from Amorim and others... tells you all you need to know really.

What a shame. Time to go.

  4. Been a rather tame January for transfers so far, a few exceptions being Kolo-Muani from PSG to Juve (scored on his debut there) and the 2 transfers for Man City, mainly Marmoush from Frankfurt.

My club, Man United, are in an awkward transfer period to say the least. No buyers for Rashford or Casemiro to this point, Antony out on a temporary loan to Real Betis, and interest in Garnacho for some crazy reason being entertained. Desperate for a LWB and a proper striker to help Amorim climb the table a bit before summer but either is looking unlikely at this point...

Who do you want in or out of your club in January?

  5. Welcome to my new Pro Soccer discussion/topic board!

As posted on the amateur board, I'm a TSSAA referee for middle and high school soccer which limits the scope of topics I can discuss for obvious reasons. So, from a posting and topic standpoint, this will be my main active thread for opinions on the sport I love.

    Let the fun begin.

  6. Welcome everyone to my soccer board for amateur topics. I'm looking forward to discussion outside of the tinderbox usually found on the web.

Yes, we are aware that we have soccer boards already for Men's/Women's soccer in TSSAA. This discussion is tailored to add in discussion involving travel, state league, camps, and possibly recreational leagues in certain circumstances. We may include the TSSAA boards under this thread board in time, we'll see how it goes and whether that preference changes for users.
