  1. I heard that Boyd has a new coach this year. Is that true? And if so, did the old coach quit or was he fired? I don't see Boyd being that competitive this year. I'm willing to bet that 21st Century will beat them in both games.
  2. oldtimeballer63, do you have any idea what C. Skogen, S. Wadley, and S. Skogen scoring averages were last season? Just curious. Same for you redandwhite forever. Do you know what Eldridge, Van Horn, and Parschalls averaged?
  3. Bumping this up to the first page.
  4. Also, the Districts and Regions will be held at Sale Creek this year. Any thoughts?
  5. C. Skogen is good, but I think he's overhyped. Skogen has a funky shot and he can be guarded if you don't let yourself go in awe of his dribbling that's getting him no where.
  6. Boyd Buchanan had a good student section a few years ago, when players used to dress up to mock the opposing team. Since then it's fallen off some.
  7. These are my predicitions for the regular season. We all know that anything could happen when the tournament comes around. 1. CCS - They've dominated the district for years now and there's no reason to pick against them. Even though they have two low post threats, I think losing Cook, Nielson, and quick PG they had will be more costly than they think and will end up costing them some games. 2. Lookout Valley - Hawkins will be their best perimeter player. McGee could be used as the slashing guard to penetrate and pass it to Hawkins for the three, so you'll have to have good perimeter defenders. Losing Morgan will hurt them down low though because he was so versatile. Morgan could also get out on the perimeter and use his length to bother the smaller guards, so that will hurt them defensively. I know as a player, not seeing Morgan down low is a blessing and I won't hesitate to drive in knowing that he won't be there to bother my shot. 3. Sale Creek (I'm biased, but aren't we all? ) - Elsea graduated last year which could hurt the Panthers when it comes to scoring but it is unlikely since that will only create more shots for others. Parker and Harris return as two guards who compliment eachother well. Neither aren't limited to just perimeter shooting, both can penetrate and create shots for their teammates. Sale Creek has also changed it's style from a perimeter shooting team to a team that slashes more and looks for easier shoots, which helped us tremendously at TN Tech this summer when we went 6-2. Look out for a good season for the new PG A. Wilson. Harris is moving to 3 and Wilson should excite with his passing and consistent shooting. The post players are both a year older now and hopefully have developed enough to make an impact in the District. 4. Whitwell - 4 starters returning should help Whitwell out a lot this year. They split series with Sale Creek last year and should teams in the district some very good games this year. I think Whitwell lost the biggest guy they had (can't think of his name?) so that will limit their option of throwing floating passes to their low post players. I rated them above South Pittsburgh because they return more starters. 5. South Pittsburgh - I always loved battleing PG Ron Cook. I always got pumped more for SP then any other game because I knew he would give me a good game. SP lost Cook and Griffith which will definately hurt them this year. Allison is a good shooter at times, but once a good defensive player is on him, he has problems finding ways to score. I think SP will struggle to find scorers to put around Robinson. Robinson 1 on 1 will be very difficult to stop, but I doubt he will only be guarded by 1 man in a lot of situations. I think they have one guy who can shoot the three well, but he cannot create his own shot and once you stick someone on him playing tight defense, he is ineffective. 6. City - Lost Penn who was their best player. Stallion is their returning scoring threat but he lacks dribbling skills and tries to play out on the perimeter. He is out of control 60% of the time and when you run man on them they have problems scoring. If you run zone, they'll just pull the ball out and look at you......... forever. 7. Richard Hardy - They have Robinson down low still I guess and he is average at best. They don't have anyone else to mention and unless they have some Man-child coming up that I haven't heard about, I don't expect them to be competitive at all this year. I will say it's funny how they schedule weaker teams than them that no one knows exists, then beat them by insane margins. If you're going to have a varsity schedule why not play teams that will actually give you a game?
  8. I believe that the score was Lookout Valley 80 - Sale Creek 75. Maybe you should hire a new math teacher at LV? If your defenition of "shooting the lights out" is coming out to start the game 0/6, then yeah you were on fire. Whenever I was guarding you, you weren't hitting anything (I was the PG #24). We decided to make a defensive switch because McGee (sp?) was too quick for Elsea and you weren't doing jack crap. So we switched, then you started hitting some shots. As for us winning 25% of our games, I'm not going predict anything. We're just going to take games one at a time.
  9. Again I agree that Grace will be good this year. Besides the fact that they have Eldridge and Van Horn, don't they have Parschalls also? I'm not sure if he graduated or not, but that's a lot of people to have to defend. Grace & Temple both have a lot of good offensive players and they stretch your defense well using each of them to their full potential. Who is it that LV gained? I know they lost Cunningham and Morgan which gave them height (even though Cunningham would rather float around the key then get downlow). K. Morgan was a good player who used his length on boards and was a defensive presence. I'm not going to say that Sale Creek is going to come out and be an amazing team or anything but I think that opposing teams shouldn't put take this years Panther team lightly. True the Panthers haven't had a winning season in 2 years, this years team has recommitted itself to being better defensively and are going the extra mile to get be in the best shape possible when the season starts. Sale Creek lost 3 players last year (2 starters) and everyone is hoping that the development of the younger players will show this year and Sale Creek will be a team to watch out for in 6A.
  10. Always nice to see someone throw in 3 out of 10 threes they put up. So I guess making 30 out of the 100 three pointers you shoot is considered lights out nowdays. Then the icing on the cake is with a whopping 33%, occasionaly you'll throw in a 4th three every once in awhile. All trash talk aside, I'll say I'm excitied to play Lookout Valley this year. Although they lost Morgan/Cunningham they'll still play well, as they do every year. Another single A player to watch is Mitch Groothius (sp?) from CCS. With not a lot of heigth in his district (or region for that matter) he could put up 25-15 easily if he was determined enough. Antonio Robinson (South Pittsburgh) is also a good player to watch. He's more of a versatile low post player. He has enough speed to take his defender out to the high post and can dribble well enough to take his defender off the dribble to the basket. That would create matchup problems with teams who have a big stiff at C/PF.
  11. I agree that Eldridge will be a player to watch. He's a good shooter, if you're a smaller guard defending him you need to deny him the ball because if he gets the jump shot over you, it's almost always $. I was going to say that Hawkins would be a player to watch, then I remember he has a shooting % of about 20 so I guess all you'll see from him is a ton of bricks.
  12. If they were going to experiment with a shot clock it would be wise to do it in games that don't affect your record and espically not in the State tournament.
  13. Why do you state that they're underrated when you don't even know where they are in the rankings? That seems very biast.
  14. Boyd Buchanan always has a dedicated student section.
  15. It was close but Whitwell pulled out a close one in OT... who would have thought that Cook would foul out in the 1st half!
  16. Why doesn't Tate get anytime down low? He's 6'0 and plays like he's a 6'5 guy
  17. eldridge stinks. He needs to pack it up and head to the house.
  18. I play for Sale Creek, I'm #24. [Edited by kmarvelous on 12-27-02 9:13P]
  19. What position is Suddath? How tall is he?
  20. Yeah your right Hawk. I play in Grahmn's district and he's almost unstoppable. It's unbelivable. He's just 5'6 or 5'7 and it's like he can pull up from anywhere on anyone. It will be something playing against him this year. I'm sure he's improved and will be even better this year.
  21. no one cares about whitwell! they stink! i dont care if they have 15 good sophmores they'll still stink!
