  1. 1st Prediction: McCallie 46 Baylor 9 (Secret weapons)
  2. FROM: Mr. Creep TO: TNLadyinCali 1) How many years of therapy do you need to get that big ol chip off your shoulder? 2) What do you have against Cheerleaders anyway? Their cute? 3) I married a cheerleader and have 2 daughters that are dying to be cheerleaders. If they make it, I hope their first goal will be to force their schools to let cheerleaders back into wrestling. I know you will hate this because both of them are as cute as can be. 4) Cheerleaders were one of the most wonderful part of wrestling back in the day. Not only were they the wrestlers best friends but they also performed an invaluable function by getting the guys to try significantly harder than they would have if they had to face the empty gyms as today's wrestlers deal with (with exception to your school because I am sure its perfect). 5) "Underwear" or "chicks" are not dirty words, its how you mix them up in your own mind that turns them into something bizzare. 6) Baylor Cheerleaders at the last Baylor/McCallie basketball game wore gold fuzzy things because when doing the 20 flips across the gym (which was amazing) it was obvious that it should be a part of their uniform, not something to be embarressed about or to creep people out over. 7) If left up to you, wrestlers would wear shorts, gymnast would wear warm ups, and swimmers should just give it up in case Mr. Creep might see their butt. 8) Last but certainly not least, with a cheerleading squad at every home match, schools would have a much easier time convincing the football players to try out for wrestling instead of forfeighting 6 weight classes everytime (doesn't include your perfect school, I'm sure). As hard as it may be in Cali, try to find a small sence of humor. And try smiling every now and then, its a good thing.
  3. I wanted to see 4 things happen this year: 1) T Boone win the state 2) B Whitaker win the state 3) One particular blue boy getting a crack at wrestling both of the above 4) Cheerleaders 1 out of 4 Frustrating year but also a great one for the boys that made the grade. A wonderful sport made a heck of a lot more fun because of Harry T and Bear Cat B. I sure hope that those I tresspassed against this season will forgive me by next November! Next year, next year, next year! McCallie 42 Baylor 6 (way to go Zach)
  4. Any team that can produce at least one female cheerleader wins the "Moms with the biggest -----" category!
  5. A change in the blue air? Possibly the 125 spot may not be 8th grade after all! Update at 6:30 tonight.
  6. OK this post was started to bring out the fun for this great wrestling rivalery. As promised in the first post, as that I am going broke sending my kids to McCallie and Baylor, I have the full right and privelage to critique both, either, or none with full immunity. I promised to keep a score card based on bad sportsmanship so here is my tally so far: BAD SPORTSMANSHIP TALLY: McCallie: 1 point for "outing" Walkenvol (though its nice to know, maybe I'll be a little more careful next time I decide to engage in some direct verbal sparring). Considering some of the things I've posted on CoachT, being "outed" is uncool. Thank goodness I've done such a good job hiding my own identity, right BCB and HT? MCallie: 1 point for directly slamming a fellow poster's son or wife (no penalty applies for slamming the poster himself). Baylor: 1 point for multiple post slamming a program for KIDS. Remember, the wrestlers themselves look at these post and when Baylor fans enjoy kicking a sweet hearted old dog when he might be down, you may as well start booing the Blue as soon as they walk on the mat. Which of course I will take note of. SO FAR: McCallie: 2 Baylor: 1 Try these: I wonder who will be a 5 timer; Baylor's 103 or McCallie's 112 or 135? Who will McCallie throw against Whitaker at 125? Which two will have the best match? Which kid will be the most fired up? Can either team muster the guts to have even one hot cheerleader show up? Will McCallie bring someone up at 103? Does any one have scoop on the unknown heavier weight classes for both teams? Will the meeting place have a special on draphts that afternoon? You know, positive things! PS: I say Mayo's on Brainerd Rd for the meeting, but that's for the social chairmen to decide
  7. Ok I admitt it. I had to copy and paste that post to microsoft word so I could spell check at least half of the words I used. Still can't figure out how to do spell check on CoachT. Will absolutly miss the "Irish" parking lot meetings. Nothing like getting bumped from the best wrestling venue of the year to make room for the girls. And these chicks don't even wear the same colored undies as the hotties did that came to our wrestling tournaments back in the day! Dont even like sorbet.
  8. The real reason is much more complicated. As that D II is mostly (if not all) private schools, we have become accustomed to....how do I say it gently.....a certain minimum requirement for our dinning and lodging needs. Money of course being no object, it was decided that Nashville offered more of a venue that was at least satisfactory to these certain life style considerations. A freshly turned down bed, a mint on the pillow, sorbet between the soup and entree, a gymnasium restroom where the "untouchable" public has not left their DNA all over the place. Is this too much to ask? Obviously TSSAA agreed to our certain peculiarities and have acquiesced to our understandable wants and needs. We will miss you guys.....Ok.....so we won't miss you guys....just trying to be nice. Muffy, can you please bring me another bon bon?
  9. From: Chattanoogan.com, BB Branton article Notre Dame won three of the first four matches and went on to a 45-19 win against East Ridge at home Tuesday to clinch the district duals title. Overall, the Irish (19-6) won nine of 14 matches, including four via pin. Mac Richmond (119), Dylan Heath (152), Pat Flynn (189) and Eric Phipps (285) all registered falls for the victors. Richmond posted the night??™s quickest pin, stopping John McIntosh in 1:00. The small school region duals are set for Thursday Jan. 24 at Hixson. The host Wildcats will face East Ridge, while defending small school state duals champion Notre Dame will face the runner-up to the Wildcats in that district. The two winners advance to the state duals in Clarksville, Feb. 1-2. Starting at 171, Ethan Nelson gave the Irish a lead (3-0) they would never relinquish with a 3-1 overtime win against Makal Kidd. Nelson scored the winning takedown 18 seconds into the first overtime period. Pins by Flynn and Phipps, sandwiched around a 9-6 decision by the Pioneers Michael Carter (215) put the Irish up 15-3 after four weights. East Ridge cut the lead to 15-12 on Corey Mansel??™s pin at 103 and an 8-3 decision by Larry Baliles (112), but could get no closer. Notre Dame then put 17 unanswered points on the board via a pin, forfeit and technical fall for a 20-point lead at 32-12 after nine matches. The Irish took three of the final five matches. ???We thought we could win nine matches, which we did, but the team score could have been closer,??™??™ said Notre Dame head coach John Mullin. ???We had a good showing at the Science Hill tournament this past weekend (second place with four champions) and kept the momentum going tonight.??™??™ Complementing the nine wins, Notre Dame had an 18-4 advantage in bonus points. ???We wrestled tonight better than in our 55-11 loss to Hixson last week, but we still need to be more aggressive,??™??™ said East Ridge coach Brad Jackson. 25 Wins: Erik Heider (25-16) reached the 25-win plateau with a 14-0 major decision against Quinten Stampfli. Heider also surpassed the 50 takedown mark with two (51) ??¦ Patrick Flynn had three takedowns for 100 on the season. Best Match: At 215, The Pioneers??™ Michael Carter defeated Brendan Dusevic, 9-6. Carter led 4-0 after one with a takedown and 2-point near fall. He extended the lead to 6-0 in the third period before Dusevic used a takedown, 3-point near fall and a stalling point to pull within one at 7-6, before Carter used a late takedown to secure the victory. 10. McCallie Cheerleader???? It wasn't my wife was it????? Lets see....1978 and my oldest child is 17 so that means.......whew, I'm in the clear. Anyone out their married to an ex-McCallie cheerleader who has a 30 year old child with curly brown hair, and loves dancing to "She's a Brick House"?
  11. I never was any good with lawyers, politicians, or english teachers. Got me on that one. Yes, I care about all that. I'm just focused on what I can sink my teeth into a week from Friday.
  12. Who cares about forfiets, team points or the next two years. For me, these are the stories to watch: Which team will look like the biggest fool by booing wrestlers or coaches? Who will be the big upset? Who will have a faster than expected pin? Who will throw the fresh move that was not properly scouted? Who is the most fired up? Maybe the most exciting moment is not even a win but a courageous freak out effort against all odds to put everything you got in 6 minutes for your team, yourself, the crowd, and of course for the "cheese" factor. Speaking of the "cheese" factor, I still want to know what happened to the cheerleaders? Lame generation of girls. They should be the ones demanding their rights to be center stage! The BLUE will be the underdogs and like all Americans, its the underdog we love (once again "cheese" factor comes into play). I would aurgue that the real winner is the wrestler that gets the most Facebook hits as a result of his match, regardles of the outcome. GO BIG BLUE
  13. Never too early to start the gossip about the big showdown. My conservative prediction: McCallie by 4. I can see it now, both teams stacked in the lower weight classes. Its the "Battle of the Davids" I challenge the Blue and Red fans to prove to the community why parents kill themselves getting kids in these schools in the first place by: 1) getting pumped for your team, 2) get your schoolmates pumped for the big slamfest, 3) calling your buddies and making sure they and their kids come to the big match 4) Don't be late for the BCB and HT meeting, 5) is it too much to ask for cheerleaders? 6) Only praise for EVERY kid and coach regardless of color or history. Bad sportmanship on either side will be personally judged by me as that I have em in both schools and can't afford either, therefore I am one of the few that have the right to publically slam both sides for acting like jerks. I'll be taking notes! GO BIG BLUE
  14. Yeah W90, just make sure its the entire 1 and 1/2 years. Not 1 and 1/4 of a year, not 1/2 year, and certainly not this weekend! And please make sure that special someone I know stays on the straight and narrow for the entire 1 and 1/2 year as well. I will owe you big time!
  15. D II 2008 Resolutions: 1) Unlike Auburn still clinging on to Bo and Bama the Bear, as a D II fan I will no longer cling on to the great chair tossing episode nor bore the Coach T boards by still holding the blue accountable for decisions made a gizzillion years ago, dream or no dream. 2) Never skip reading CoachT for a week so I will never miss a BCB and HT's meeting notice again. 3) Try and convice at least one cute cheerleader to show up to at least one wrasslin match this year. Whats wrong with these young boys anyway? 4) If old, fat, and disgusting, never spar with an existing high school student Coach T poster once identified. 5) If young, sexy, and arrogant, never drop an opportunity to spar with an old, fat, disgusting Coach T poster once identified. 6) Coach T posters with too many mortages, pounds, and/or tuition payments can't be held accountable for anything they posted over 30 days old. 7) Once they bring your sisters into the mix, a Coach T poster can start asking questions about the other posters ex-hottie-girlfriends. 8) As the Beach Boys said: "Be true to your school" even that means you have a bunch of them. 9) Buy Bear Cat, Harry, Big Red, and W90 a big tall one next time I seem them. Though I suspect W90 might have to wait about 4 more years. 10) As that we are running out of time for this season, put more post on Coach T to ###### everyone off that can't be a BLUE fan!
  16. Sorry Hoosierdad, your absurb. If the only reason you wrestle is to be a champion then you are either an egomaniac or a fool. Chamionships may be the ultimate goal but not "what its all about". If that was the case then 98% of all wrestlers for the last 40 years were simply waisting their time. For Walkenvol: McCallie has ALWAYS used a lot of wrestlers back and forth from JV to Varsity. In fact, over the last 3 seasons, I've seen kids be allowed a tremendous amount of Varsity matches, get to wrestle in the State Duals, and letter at Varisity all the while having never won a starting challenge match. For that kind of experience and exposure to a kid that would be left soley in the JV ranks on other teams, the Big Blue coaching staff is the envy of every program. I know that hurts to hear but for those of us who didn't have thier kids born under an athletic silver star, its huge. So whether or not your list of boys saw some varsity time, (all great wrestlers who I would love to see back on the mat) does not mean that all six were the starters for the tradtional state tournament and then quit the team because of some mystery shake up. I don't have the info in front of me but I believe 4-5 of them wrestled in the JV tournament in 2007. Again, bottom line is that the Blue squad already had either too much talent in front of them, the new work ethic was too much, and/or they simply needed a break. Don't blame any of them one bit but it was not a mass walk out from a troubled team as is implied. The Big Blue is still here to put the hurt on. BCB, as far as my being an ignorant sl*t, how did you know? Have you been talking to my wife again?
  17. I will try and squelch one of the most bogus rumors of this season: McCallie did NOT have 6 starters quit this year. From what I can tell, only one returning varsity starter is no longer on the team due to an injury. It had several very good JV wrestlers quit, this is true. They quit because they saw their weight classes already filled with talent or the additional work ethic put into place this year was simply too much. That means those that are still grappling by the time the Duals comes along will be some of the best talent and in the best condition in Tennessee, regardless of division. McCallie also failed to replace some of the larger weight classes early in this season that opened up due to attrition. They graduated a lot of big boy talent over the last two years and I'm not talking about just the state champions. The coaching staff will be working to fix that up until the very last second. It also has had several early season injuries. Some will be out for the season but some (I'm praying at least one in particular) will be back even hungrier than before. Rest assured, by the time the state duals comes along the early injuries will be healed, the upper weight classes will be filled out much better, and McCallie will be as strong as anyone from 112-150. True McCallie may stuggle to win the duals, but they will still have the satisifaction of whipping a lot of @$$ in Nashville. Baylor and Father Ryan might be in the finals in Nashville, but plenty of individual egos on both benches will be severely bruised up if they had to pass through McCallie to get there!
  18. Sniff, sniff I love BCB too, but not for the same reasons: 1) For reminding me that going to his "meetings" are much more important than making my mortgage payment. 2) For raising a son that is only one of two wrestlers the my son wants to have a crack at. (PS: some of the blue and red parents say that the green coach is skeered and that's why my boy want have a chance at the "Shogun of Take Downs" this year...next year maybe? Your heated responce is required!) 3) For letting me and my brothers throw our Krystal trash in his front yard everyday after school. 4) Introducing me to: "She's a brick house" 5) Making me feel guilty that my own don't wear green......yet? 6) He and the late, great Harry Thorton's enthusiasm to keep wrestling fun and on the forefront of Chattanooga atheletics. PS: my thoughts and prayers go out to Harry's future in-law's cousins with their recent and tragic loss. 7) For keeping my intense wrestling fan wife off of his "list". 8) Making the entire area "green" with envy. 9) His witty and sometimes "telling it like it is" remarks on Coach T, and finally 10) Knowing deep down inside, where even the best therapist cannot reach, that if push came to shove and the two of us had the opportunity, (which will never, ever happen by the way) that BCB knows that I could whip his green @$$ on the grappeling mat! (heated response is NOT required here)
  19. Did someone say something about a wrestling match north of White Oak Mountain in January? A great rivalry for sure...but the BIGGEST MATCH? Maybe in about 4 more generations. Great wrestling I am sure, but only a local interest story between local boys. You could throw in a grudge match between Toby McKenzie and Allen Jones and it will still fall short. Saying that Cleveland and Bradley County might have the strongest teams, most talent, and will dominate the Cleveland area sports talk for a few days might be true. But to claim its the Biggest Match is to ignore the big picture. Both programs are at the highest level of competition, but they lack multi-generational dominance to claim to be the Biggest Match. When it comes to the Biggest Match, even when weight classes are forfeited and seniors are scarce, an afternoon up I-75 cannot compete with Red and Blue day. Both teams can stink and yet their match up consumes generations, friends, and adversaries of both schools. People who don't even understand wrestling show up for this cataclysmic event. Kids spend sleepless nights for YEARS and YEARS hoping to be the starter for the Red or Blue on this day. Winning seasons are not the focus, not even state championships, but please, please, please let me be the starter at the Baylor/McCallie match. Some don't even care if they have a chance at winning, they just want a chance of being on the mat that day. And this enthusiasm, no.... more like obsession, bleeds through to the parents, alumni, faculty, friends, and the entire Chattanooga area. Jealous of this fact? I am too. I didn't go to these schools and always hated the hype they received and took a special satisfaction of whipping (sometimes) both schools on the mat. But it never changed the reality. The biggest match of 2007 or 2008 or the last 50 years is and always has been the Baylor/McCallie match. Many other programs in the area can consider their matches to be the "Best Match" based on a talent pool for that one season. They, like our northern neighbors, would be too focused on the "here and now" but still lack the broad, long term, consistent, and notorious appeal of the Red and Blue reputation. Some might think ND/Father Ryan/Knox Catholic could one day become a "Best Match" or a RB/ER or SD/Ooltewah. But the rivalries are still too localized within one community like Cleveland and Bradley County. No, it has to be a match up that can shake the foundations of the entire area. Best chance of this would be ND and CCS (if CCS can continue to develop their program). It could be touted as the "Inquisitors" Vs. the "Klan". The Catholic fans show up with whips and torture devices and the Protestants show up with nooses and burning crosses. Talk about transending generations, now were talking CNN headlines! But, that will never happen so if I'm going to only one match a year, I'll still be buying my Baylor/McCallie ticket for the forseeable future.
  20. Bayou, I guess making a general statement like I did is not fair. Your right on about kids needing parental involvement, especially the weight thing. I guess my biggest beef is when parents are at the challenge match rooting for their kid over their teammate. My kid wont let me come near a practice much less a challenge match. There is no question he felt intimidated in years past wrestling his teammate with the only one cheering in the whole room is his challenger's dad. I felt it was an unfair advantage. Some could say that I should be there to even it up. But again, my boy would have killed me. Every situation is unique. I guess what I should have said is that parents should be careful that their involvment in wrestling practices needs to remain a positive experience for the team as a whole and not just a promotion of their child over all the rest. No doubt a lot of programs are better because of parents getting in there and helping the coaches. A coach can't be everywhere all the time. These parents are heros and so are the drivers and food providers. But when it comes to challenge matches, they should either be treated like a dual meet with a concession stand and cheering crowds or conducted in complete privacy. I've seen JV tournaments where kids were wrestling teammates in the finals. I saw parents cheering for both kids to put out more effort. This way they got to cheer on their kid without cheering against the kid's teammate. I've done this myself. If parents took that same approach towards practices and challenge matches, I wouldn't have any problem with it. But, that simply is not the case all the time and when it isn't, it can be real detrimental to the entire team. Just an opinion and thanks for pointing out my extreme attitude overlooked the postitive that parents provide for all these kids.
  21. I would probably have more insight if my kid wasn't out for while with an injury, but I've mainly been focused with trying to get him back on the mat. I actually haven't attended one practice this year.....because he can't wrestle yet. Just an opinion, but I think Dad's should never be allowed in a wrestling room, a practice, or a challenge match. Regardless of the parent's motivation or the invite by the coaches, it is a total screw job to the other kids that are in your kid's weight class. Hey, I have an idea, why don't you let your kid's life be enjoyed by them like your parents let you. Just an idea. BAN ALL PARENTS FROM PRACTICE AND CALLENGE MATCHES! Its the right thing to do for the rest of your kid's teammates wether you agree or not. Its hard enough on the boys to see their parents spewing their thoughts about THEIR sport on CoachT. Its THEIR time not ours (oops, I guess I'm guilty of that right here).
  22. So what's the deal? Did Harry pass away? Or is he just to good to slum around here no mo? We all understand his virtual free rides in tar heel country and his need to start a satellite meeting ground on the eastern side of the hills. But, does that mean high school wrestling is now something for him to scoff at? Maybe he's too busy trying to come up with a respectful dowry for his new daughter in law. Maybe he should buy her a SHAWl? Whatever, I say we bury him once and for all and look to the future. Bear Cat needs to post his obituary. I am a little worried about the new leadership. All this Bear Cat talk of male bonding and sexy wrestling tights and wanting to show off his new "move" gets me a little nervous! If the meetings start being held at Allen Golds then I'm out of here! The Diamond and Lace concept has a lot of merit mind you. Bring lots of ones. Until then, I'll be proud to join the fellows at Mervs for Harry Thorton's wake this afternoon. Will there be a fund raiser dressed in green lurking to crawl into our wallets when we get there? A 4 million dollar Irish sports complex sounds impressive but I just want to make sure Bear Cat's not looking to fund it all this afternoon. Still looking for a post on this with some real details like how much of its going into wrestling and if their going to name it after me or not. "Woodpecker Arena" has a nice ring to it.
  23. The most important accessory, hands down, is a clean pair of Fruit of the Loom tidy whities. Nothing worse than weighing in with stained and ripped underwear. Be sure to buy them one size too small to keep all the "gear" in the right place. Better than a jock strap, no straps to mess with, and don't look as weird falling out of your gym bag. Besides, always nice to have an extra layer of protection between your man and the team uniform for those more aggresive dieters!
  24. Quiters are not losers. Sometimes you need a break. Doesn't mean its the last of their wearing the Blue. Same goes with Red, Green, and any other color. Sometimes new methods are hard to adjust to for a lot of athelites. But, never should an athelite be considered a loser, even the ones that need a break. Losers are the ones that never tried in the first place. Every program is unique to its particular season and I think its un-reasonable to point the finger at one or two causes for wrestlers quiting or a packed wrestling room. Wrestling is much more complicated than that. Now yall go enjoy your turkey. Don't forget to say your prayers. And make sure the ones that just certified don't eat too much this weekend!
