  1. I certainly see your point. Dead subject as far as I am concerned. The rumor started with a parent and it went from there. To say I beleived it, not necessarily, but I do feel he is a good coach and would make a good high school coach somewhere. I made myself clear from the beginning that it was all speculation and that there was no evidence to back it up. My mistake was giving my opinion. Thanks
  2. No offense taken! However, I never said it was going to happen, I just stated that it was a rumor. We all know how rumors are and Flame 123 cleared it up for all of us. BA is a great program but it is not a program that is considered a national power house. It is considered a power house around this area but looking at the big picture it is just considered a solid program. 100-0 won't get you a sniff? Surely you are kidding? I would not go as far as saying that high schools just look for high school coaches or college coaches, established or not. That may be the case for BA but not for all other high schools out there. There have been plenty of hires in this state from the middle school ranks and it has turned out to be a smart decision. It doesn't matter either way because it has been cleared up that this rumor is not true. Thanks for your response and best of luck
  3. No I didn't say ITZME is one of those. I stated it (In general) is not always easy to coach talent. Their have been plenty of great coaches that have walked into seasons having high expectations becasue of their talent and it turned out to be a flop because of the head cases they have on their team. It is not always easy just because you have talent to coach talent. In some cases it takes a good coach to get these kids to play team basketball and not to just show case their own individual talents. I'm not saying this is the case for BA.
  4. ITZME may know basketball but so do alot of people on here and then there are some that just get on here to cause problems. By the way, coaching kids with talent is sometimes more difficult then it would be coaching kids with no talent. The pressure of having to win and sometimes getting strong personalities to come together is not the easiest thing to do.
  5. ITZME, Just what I heard. You ought to apply? Maybe you can take over the program and do the job Coach pitts did? Doubt it! Flame, Thanks for the information and support. I was just stating what I heard. That caught me off guard because I wasn't trying to offend anyone. I was just stating what I heard but the people I heard it from never stated it was true, it was more like they thought he would be leaving after this year and some of those jobs would be a good situation for him.
  6. Courtside, You need to keep your mouth closed. If I want to post what we are hearing in this area then I will. Either you are a coach that is insecure or a bleacher fan that has to stick his nose somewhere it don't belong. No one is trying to get anybody hired here and there has been no comments stating that. Yes, I think he is a great coach but that is my opinion. You have no problem stating your opinions on issues, now do you? Honestly, I am tired of hearing your EXPERT advice. I am a fan and I will state my opinion. This is what we are hearing in this area but I have stated that I have no idea if the rumor is true. If you don't like my posts then stay off Coach T.
  7. I am hearing they are leaving all options on the table if he does move on. I heard a couple of days ago the coach from Blackman Middle School would be a great canidate. He is a terrfic young coach that would do a fantastic job there. However, I have no idea if he would be interested in that job. I have heard that he is very happy where he is at. What we should all realize is that rumors are rumors and until an official announcement is made it should be treated as a rumor that may not be true. I wish BA the best of luck eitehr way.
  8. I heard that the Blackman Middle Boys head Coach in Murfreesboro is considered one of the best young coaches in Middle Tennessee. I have watched several games and what he can do with a team is incredible. There is no doubt that he could turn around a high school program as long as he has an administration that will support him. I know he has turned down several high school jobs but I don't know why? I think that most of these high schools that are in need of changes and need discipline really need to try and lure this coach into their program but again they already may be doing that. This kid is the real deal. There is no place he can't coach and be successful. However, he seems to be very smart so far about not choosing situations that are not good (Support from administration, parents and boosters)
  9. I have to agree with you on that. They need to get over to Mufreesboro and try and get the coach at Blackman Middle before someone else offers him a job. I think he wouuld fit this situation perfectly. He is known as a tough disciplinarian, great teacher of the game, excellent teacher in the classroom, and communicates very well with administration and parents. There are several good coaches out there but this man has a way with kids and people that I haven't seen out of a coach in years.
  10. They need to take a hard look at some young coaches. I heard that the Blackman Middle Boys head Coach in Murfreesboro is a great young coach. He demands 110% from his kids on both ends and won't put up with any non sense on or off the floor. He is probably one of the best young disciplined coaches out there and is a great teacher of the game but more importantly he is a great leader off the floor. He is better than most high school coaches around. I've coached the game for many years and this kid will one day be a great asset to any high school program. He is an incredible young coach. However, I don't know if Blackman Middle will let him leave. Then again, he may not want to leave!
  11. I completely agree with you. Here is what hear in the stands. These two coaches are good friends and have a great deal of respect for each other. They both are very disciplined coaches that demand their players to listen and execute. I think it will come down to three things. Who can control the boards, who protect the basketball, and who wants it more. This is going to be close but I see Blackman taking it in the end. No blowouts in this game. Get a seat early, I hear it will be packed!!!
  12. Thats weird! I believe I also stated that it is true that a sectional Championship is not really a true State Championship (Like high school) in my last post. We all understand it is probably more of a regional thing than anything but TSSAA has these sectionals for the east, middle and west for small schools and large schools designated at one site in each area. The TSSAA board considers this the closest thing to a State Tournament for middle schools regardless of the "true definition" that you are talking about. If it wasn't the closest thing to a State for these schools then your season for your team would end at the area tournament! So it means something bigger to these schools.
  13. Flame and Dapaver, They played November 28th and December 12th. Close enough when you don't have a calendar in front of you! However, you are right they do have the easier bracket.
  14. Central vs. Blackman. Who wins on Friday night to get their shot at the sectional championship?
  15. I think he was referring to what it is called. It is called TMSAA STATE Sectional Championship. According to TSSAA it is considered a State Championship in your area.
  16. Good teams playing good basketball. Many people are talking about Blackman Boys and Mt. Juliet. I hear this Sycamore team is a good team and are very capable of beating Central
  17. My question is, do you think either of these teams can play with Blaackman. Do you think that Dickson can play with Blackaman?
  18. I was a fan of Lavergne when Blackman wasn't playing but watching tonights game changed that. I noticed several times in the game where a Lavergne player fell down in front of Blackman bench and their coach extended his hand to help them up and the kid pushed his hand away. I even seen the head caoch of lavergne talking trash to one of Blackmans caoches as they were going to their respective lockerooms. Not very classy. However, the referees were terrible in this game for both teams. I noticed the Blackman coach shaking his head on several calls toward Lavergne as if he agreed it was a bad call. however, Blackman proved once again that they were superior and held their composure really well during Lavergne 2nd quarter run.
  19. I don't think any coach enters the buisness hoping that they just can win on talent. We all understand it takes intelligence to play and coach basketball. However, because a kid or a team struggles with dribbling, breaking a press or don't box out well doesn't mean they are poorly coached. Some schools don't have the athletes that others do nor do they have the athletes year to year that others do. You have to consider the practice time that these coaches are given as well. Here is an example. Keith Short, a great high school coach. A legend in White County. Two time state runner up. Really turned Riverdale girls team around years ago before it was handed over to Coach Burke. He went to Buchannon and coached elementary where he will retire after this year. They averaged 1-2 wins a season. Does that make him a poor coach because the kids he caoches do not get out and work on their indivdual game? Does this mean he does a poor job at teaching fundamentals? What you stated makes it sound like that if you see a team as I described that labels him as a poor coach. Individual work ethic and how much investment parents (money, camps, teaching their children work ethic) put into their kids has as much to do with it as a coach does. Middle school coaches probably have them for 2 hours a day and then when season starts practice time is cut in half. They can't change a kid completely over that period of time. They can only control what goes on in practice. They can't control what these kids decide to do outside of practice as well. I respect your opinion but what you see on the court does not always mean they are poor coaches.
  20. You can witness all those mistakes at any level. I guess you are saying that since Central boys are out of shape, play no defense most of the time, do not move on offense, do not box out that Ron Couey must be a poor coach. I guess because Rock Springs played with Central down to the wire last night and Central was gasping for air in the fourth quarter, not boxing out, couldn't handle rock Springs press at times, and Gooch missing layups that Ron Couey must be a poor coach. That is exactly what you are saying!
  21. Lets remember that this is not AAU either. These coaches do not get to pick their talent. They have zones and have to coach the kids they are given. Most teams will rely on year to year talent becuase Murfreesbor School System is so big and these kids are spread out. Central is the only exception here because they are the only inner city school right now. I do agree that there are some coaches out there that have no buisness coaching but for the most part Rutherford County Middle Schools have great coaches. Also you must realize that great coaching goes far beyond winning and loosing when you are dealing with Middle School kids. Most people that make those type of comments are so far removed from reality when it comes to the game of basketball or they coach AAU where they can pick the cream of the crop. These coaches have to deal with thier zones, grades, behavior and other challenges that face them in a school system. Rock Springs has great coaches. There boys caoch as been at the high school level and understnads the game. Blackman Boys team has a great coach. They also have one of the best assembled coaching staff around. Ron Couey is a legend around here. Lavergne coach is learning but has done a great job so far. Look at what type of character these young men have, the things they teach their kids, how disciplined they are on the floor, and how hard they coach. Again, it is more than about wins. Lets give credit where credit is deserved. If people can't see that these are great coaches along with some of the others in this league then they have no buisness discussing this issue on this forum.
  22. Gooch did not shut Hammonds down in the 2nd half. Hammonds went cold. Hammonds went everywhere and shot everything he wanted to shoot. Siegel didn't lose because Central played great defense. Siegel lost becuase they have no supporting cast. One player can't carry the team in these tournaments. Central is very out of control offensively and not very disciplined on defense. If they are then why is one player (Hammonds) getting over 35 shot attempts in a game. That is not defense. Defense is limited his shot attempts which did not happen. Referees whistle being heavy will favor Blackman. They are more disciplined and more under control offensively and defensively. Majority of the people and coaches would say the samething.
  23. I'll stick with mine as well. Thanks for the response
