  1. I'm not judging anyone. We have now come full circle in this conversation. We are right back to where we started with hitting trends and tendencies. Put everyone in right field if you want to. Take care!
  2. No one is talking about throwing anything. Good job of hitting by Covington. They are a very competitive and well coached team. I really don't see what there is to question about this game. Gant was on 2 days, Nelson threw the game before, and Overbey is next in the rotation. With the region starting on Monday, it would have made no sense to have thrown either Gant or Nelson on that kind of rest. Good luck against Dyersburg!!
  3. First of all, a guy whose position depends on who's pitching from day to day is rarely going to be one of the best at any of those positions. Maybe if a team only has nine or ten players, you could justify moving a guy every game. Most everyone mentioned on this thread has been a centerfielder. Generally, your centerfielder does not move around depending on who's pitching. If this kid is one of the best outfielders in West TN, then he should certainly be the best outfielder(centerfielder) for Middleton. So why is such a quality outfielder moving around so much? Still make perfect sense?
  4. And the daughter wasn't there to recieve her award?, maybe her mom forgot to tell she had been selected.
  5. Yep, you're certainly right about that!
  6. Glad to hear it, good luck!! How do you like your chances vs. USJ and their pitching?
  7. Oh, okay.... You threw me there for a second.
  8. How is Copley? I saw him in the summer when he was 14/15. He threw pretty hard then. Pretty big kid too, isn't he? Sounds like he has become a very tough pitcher!!
  9. Very cool, just adding a little reality to this absurd conversation. However, I did see a hitter the other night that rivaled Ted Williams.
  10. Actually, it's called projection, and yes he very cleary said the kid's cutter RIVALED Rivera's. For starters, it doesn't rival, resemble, or even come close to Rivera's. Let's get serious!! Comparing Hayes to Mariano Rivera as it concerns any aspect of baseball is insane. See if he gets drafted, and then compare him to Todd Van Poppel or somebody. It's like comparing a kid selling T-shirts to Warren Buffett financially.
  11. Absolutely right!! No one is claiming Hayes is not a good pitcher, but comparisons like that are simply ridiculous. Most major league hitters struggle with Rivera, and the cutter is basically all he throws. He throws it in the mid 90's as well.
  12. No problems were even on the horizon until you made this comment. This is just civilized dialogue, and no one is trying to sway this gentleman in his job as an official. Also, this guy did a great job, and no one remembered him after the game. That's because he did not miss one call behind the plate. About your statement, if one team or the other does get an honest break, then everyone who knows this game will know it was an honest break. There is no need for this gentleman to watch what he says or remain anonymous. That will not hinder the ignorant fans from blaming him in the future. Some people are always looking to create controversy or to blame some one else, but I'm sure YOU already know that!!
  13. First of all, no one's cutter rivals Rivera's, especially not a kid in high school! Glad to hear his control is coming around. I've heard good things about his other pitches this year. I've also heard he is still depending on throwing his fastball by hitters all the time. So having heard both and only seen one, I had no choice but to report what I've seen and not speculate. I'd probably still say Kyler Burke is the best overall player in the state.
  14. Overall, you are right about the rest of your crew. They did a very good job. By the way, I thought they had some difficult calls to make at that! Again, if the game had been error free, USJ wins 1-0. I will say there was not one call behind the plate that I could not swallow. Very consistent zone, probably the best I've seen all year. That really helps a pitcher settle in!
  15. Wow! You guys must have major league caliber scouting reports. I've never heard of someone playing a different position based on the opponent or a starting pitcher. This may be the most ridiculous thing I've seen on these boards!! Do you know how long you would have to track a hitter's trends to justify doing that?
  16. No way Hayes is a better hitter, but that is beside the point. If you're going to be a stat rat, then please look at all the stats. Hayes throws hard, straight, and down the middle. Most importantly, Minor is a lefty. Minor locates better, has better offspeed stuff, and is more of a PITCHER. TRUST ME, Minor will do much better at the next level.
  17. Easy cowboy!! Errors were what kept the Bruins from winning 1-0, but there were some questionable calls. I'm not saying they were wrong though. I thought you did a great job behind the plate. A couple of calls could have gone either way, and they all were in the general region of first base. That game is over, so let's move on to the Ripley game. Once again, good job behind the plate.
  18. Hayes is not even in the same league as Minor. You're joking right!
  19. USJ is in a tough position right now. I think they'll come out of the district and region though. I think the only way to play Lexington is in the state, isn't it? If that happens and it's 1 vs. 1 I'll take USJ right now!!
  20. I guess so. However, it is very difficult to make an error in the outfield. I had a lot of guys on the payroll though!!
  21. As far as I know if a pitcher throws four innings of a five inning game he gets the win. What's your take? One other thing that needs to pointed out is that even though he did not deserve to lose in his 27th decision, the Bruins have really helped in the field during this streak. It was bound to end sometime. Everyone makes errors now and then!! I made a couple in high school..... .....I think???
  22. You're right, everyone's memory is selective at times. Nine players on one team going to the next level is very impressive!! I expect Gant to run off another streak or two before it is over. 25 or 26, will be very tough to duplicate though.
  23. What I remember best about that game is when Moreland's antics were stopped in their tracks by one Josh Liles. After a step and a half towards the mound, he made a quick decision and walked to first. I think the hurdle in front of him(Liles) made him think twice. By the way, Gant did not pitch at all in that game. Nice try though. Goodpasture had a good squad that year to say the least!!
