It's very easy to understand, If the batter is swinging at the pitch and the ball hits him it is a strike.... If he is avoiding it and gets hit, a ball.......There is no such rule as a batters hand being part of the bat.....If you have heard this please change you're mind very quick, it will get you in trouble very quick calling ball..It's the most stupid saying around...Ask someone to drop a bat and see if the hand is with it......Get real..... The only way U have a strike is if the batter is commiting to hit the ball and it touches him, a strike...if it hits his hand and he is not commiting its a ball. No matter the size of the swelling.....

This is a very bad loss for this family... Sorry to hear, I don't know him personally, but my thoughts to his family...I ump games and come very close to players all season... Can't imagine one leaving us at this age.....May God be with you......

When the state of TN. & (TSSAA) activates the law as the state of FL., a fan or parent interferres with a game for any resaon, they will be banned from any game played under the rules of that state......This will help stop this kind of misconduct from players as well as parents...These people have to learn that these kind of actions are not to be part of the game on the field nor from the spectators.......

Don't know about that, there is so many people wanting a piece of the action...I am getting ready to get out of this action, just trying to help the master before we quit.....

He is very good in my opinion.....People might not agree with the way you are asking this question, but I have worked with Herbert in regular season and he was great......I guess it all depends on how you call balls & strikes to suit some people, I think his was best for all......

Pirate88, I'm sorry that I am offending you by talking on this board, but I have as much to do it as anyone, I've not talked about changing the course of a game as anyone......I have just expalined my actions in a game, and my partners......nothing to change a game./.. Just very sorry if this offends you........

Sportsmanship is what this whole process is about, but aslong as people conduct themselves this way at games, and the kids see if and think it is ok, there will never be a solution.....It's getting worse as yrs. pass and no one has tried to stop it.....Grown ups at games should conduct themselves in a manner that they would like to see their kids follow, but yelling at people and blaming them for things and using them excuses will never get it done......

That base was coverd by the plate umpire, it's a routine play, no problem to cover, easy as it gets as far as calls......

Thanks for you're opinion, and yes my assigning officer is aware of me talking here, and has no problem with it with me answering questions and explainations....I'm not embarrassed none what so ever.....I'm talking about past games and answering questions....If others would stop being so up tight and quit trying to be so untouchable they would not have so many probelms....I've seen many ump's talking here with people about situations, I think giving explanations to some situations help people understand our situations some....I'm not for anyone but our betterment, and I'll do all that I can to help others understand how we work.....If you have a problem with this, so be it, stay off of here and you won't have to worry with it.........

No, my last game was Monday night with the Dist. 7AAA in Brighton vs Bolton..

I don't know anything about anyone being called fatboy....I have never heard that on the field.....As far as the tag play that evening, We as a 3-man crew had the proper positions...Myself calling 3rd. base was to be in the middle of the field and cover the runner @ 2nd., there is no way for me to cover a tag @ 3rd. which is behind me........We had bases loaded and the plate ump checks tag @ 3rd. which was covered.....1st base ump covers his @ 1st....All bases were cleared for tags by signals, case is closed, was not that big of a deal......As far as both of us looking at that play, there is no way I was looking as it and clearing a tag @ 2nd.. I have no idea how a person can see two people looking at two bases at the same time, amazing to me......That's just how it was....... Thanks.....
