  1. I wouldn't be bragging a whole lot now, C.S.! It's still early, and your competition hasn't been all that tough. Hopefully CC will get to play some real teams in the near future, like from the 8AAA,9AAA, 10AAA districts.

    Let MrNoItAll give his own evaluations without any persuasion or lobbying votes from you CC folks. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

You beat me to it MustHang... CC needs a quality win before this one is convinced. As for the week 3 top 10 it will be rough to get a good idea, everyone has pretty much been playin in the mud after MTSCA. With exception of mabey 2 front runners you could throw the rest up in the air and list them as they fall.

Never thought I'd say this but you were missed MrNoItAll. I think most everyone enjoys you stirring the pot.

  2. It is illegal as many have said previously. The problem is all to often you have an umpire that simply doesn't know the game well enough or hasn't the presence to take control of the game. The other side of the coin is a brazen coach will point out every inconsistency just to gain advantage and get into a pitchers head because he knows he has no chance with that girl on the mound. Officials have many factors to consider because you "will" give an advantage to one side or another when you approach a pitcher. As a coach when this happens I immediately ask for an explanation and challenge the other coach just to support my pitcher. Confidence is everything when pitching and coaches that use this banter to rattle pitchers have no game...

  3. All in all I thought it was a very good tournament and all the teams played their hearts out. I doubt you'd see MJ in the Silver again next year, their pitchers looked good and getting stronger. Goins threw well until bruising her hand and Haliburton had a strong showing against Knox Central, a 2-1 nail biter. If not for a huge 2 run shot in the first inning by Montgomery Centra,l Haliburton threw a near perfect game. MJ also had a Freshman throw 2 shutouts and picked up 3 wins through pool play. The defense is tight and the bats are coming along. They can only get stronger...

  4. While I agree MJ could have competed with Gold bracket there really wasn't alot of distinction between the two brackets. I understand their reasoning and I think they were shocked by their own level of play but the same argument could be made for Knox Central and Montgomery Central. It's almost like the whole A vs B argument and since there's no governing body to set actual guidlines on who goes where it's a mute point.

  5. Thanks for stating the obvious..............do they also get your approval for the DA game?

It's comments like this that put people off... I thought Beech played well and said so, I'm not a Beech fan just giving them their due for a game well played against a team I thought highly of. Is that too much? I am simply humbling my eariler comments on the subject having a better perspective. I'm not sure this comment was sarcastic, it was however a bit redneck...

  6. After watching the Beech MJ game I gotta give Beech their props. Kat is the real deal, the team is well coached, a class act and they have enough hitting to win. If Kat can hang tough through the big dance they've a good shot. Beech is undoubtedly the front runner in their district. MJ hung tough through a scoreless 3 but an error giving up two unearned sparked the bats and Beech hit line shots in the gaps to score 3 more times. Well done...

  7. Guess I must explain my reasoning since I have been challenged... hehe. Just having fun with this folks and I really try to watch what I say because I applaud all the girls efforts. That being said I must pull for teams on my side of the Pond!

    1) I put Goodpasture before Beech just on what I've seen and playday games are week indicators, not that Beech or Goodpasture will be playing each other in the end I expect both will be in the end dance in their respective divisions.

    2) Beech has only played Father Ryan, White House and Sycamour officially and scored a total of 7 runs. Not exactly blow em' away scoring but wins nonetheless.

    3) DA has 8 senior's and a good pitcher. I still beleive they will or should give Beech a solid game.

    4) MJ is young and will be underestimated early on...

If we must compare "playday" wins and losses MJ beat PJP 9-1 with their freshman pitcher and they made the top 10. So, like I said, I don't give much credence to playday games.

  8. Uhm... wow! Don't know where to start so will go to the top and stay there. You're better off naming your pre-season favorites and then waiting a month. Week 1 got off to a rough start and week 2 was a literal wash. The only team I can say is a definite number 1 would be Goodpasture, they have played some tough competition and they're obviously stacked, that is if you've been around the "park" for any amount of time. St. Benedicts has lost many but quite a few of those losses were to strong teams (Goodpasture). I would say Beech is up there simply based on their big win during a play day but who can really use that as a base... Much will be known this week when they play MJ and DA. While MJ is young they can still play and DA has a solid pitcher who, while coming off an injury, is still ball smart enough to "pitch" a solid game. Some might question this line of thought but then we'll see what comes out int he wash in week 3.

  9. As many as six years ago, I started a campaign to move the season from spring to fall before this became a fad. Weather had become such a problem because of rain, it was the only answer. But, you would have thought I just said there was no God. When I began posting it on Coach T, I was revered as insane and that it would and could never happen no matter how the facts stood when added up with perfect logic on how it could work, nobody and I mean NOBODY wanted to listen. Therefore, I chalked it up to another "Don't confuse me with facts!" by a bunch of rednecks that don't have a clue. It's as simple as that, and will remain that way. Many coaches that coach other fall sports also coach spring. These are the ones that will suffer and is the perfect reason as to why not to do it. I have several friends that are in that position and would not want them to lose that capability. So on that note, I can no longer pull for such a swing of seasons based on my own personal biases. But, the reasons given by the ones in charge back in those days were nonsensical to say the least. Good luck on all of your endeavours to change the season, but consider it as much of a sure thing as Obama changing from his Socialistic practices to head of the RNC.

PS. RNC does NOT mean Red Neck Convention.....

ERA, I hadn't thought of the coaching thing but your right, coaches are a tight nit group, along with athletic directors. It only takes a small circle of friends to snuff things like this with the TSSAA. It's too bad because it should happen. The weather is not only a factor in playing conditions but is a detractor to the sport itself. Many girls simply don't play after a season or two because they're sick of the practices and games in the cold.

I wouldn't have went the redneck route but I would say the good ol' boy network is alive and well.

  10. Here are the only motives I can come up with to keep it in the spring...

    1) The TSSAA and member schools would have to "change" something. That's the big one. We all can agree for a bureaucracy to change anything is like turning water to wine.

    2) Old dog, new tricks. Many coaches and administrators are simply set in the current system and have the same not broke, don't fix it thought process.

    3) Might be an initial lack of officiating but I doubt that would be a huge factor. I'm more inclined to believe #1 is the main reason.

  11. I'm a relative newb to the local High School scene in this area but not a newb to athletics in general. Some serious consideration should be given to the idea of moving the softball season for this area. In my district, just the past year I've seen 1 rotator cuff tear (catcher throwing down in a cold pratice), 1 broken ankle (sliding with metal cleats into a muddy clay second base) and 1 torn bicep (pitching in the cold). Nobody is complaining? Or is it more like no one is listening? Our ego is getting in the way of making the right decision for the girls?

I spent 16 years in the military folks and High School athletics is not preparation for war. Coaches should not have drill sergeant win no matter the cost mentalities when trying to prepare these 14-18 year old ladies for ball and the TSSAA should be protecting the interests of the athlete's from overbearing systems. I understand we all want the best, we all want to be competitive and teach our kids team aspects and that hard work pays. All I'm saying is we should err on the side of caution and use some common sense. If Alabama and Georgia made the move to fall, Tennessee who is 5-10 degree's colder and with alot more rain, might consider it.

  12. The biggest, el numero uno reason is the weather.

    1) Cold - Coaches with or without indoor facilities are practicing in it trying to get the "edge" which can lead to many tendon related injuries if players don't dress and warm up properly.

    2) Rain - We already have rain outs, the first tourney's already rained out and the second partially rained out.

    3) TSSAA - They currently won't allow more than 5 players from the same school to play tournament ball on the same team during the fall school season. Their point is lost on me, other than to dumb down the stronger districts but if this were a fall sport it would mesh better with leagues and private summer programs.

    4) Offseason - We would finally have a real off season Mid November through at least April... Whoo Hoo! It seems now we get about 2 months, Nov. and Dec.

Hey I'm all for this... but I'm sure their are reasons I'm not aware of for this being a spring sport?

  13. You didn't have to go too far out on a limb to make this one. Beech is preped quite nicely although I wouldn't quite say they are a shoe in to win the state. Soddy Daisy has some "Big" bats no matter who is pitching. They will have to be simply out scored to win. In the district though I see it like this...

Beech - Did well and should be the top contender in the district and region.

Wilson Central - If it were not for the coaching change and other extenuating factors they had the talent to make a run at it with Beech, now their #1 pitcher is injured, #2 is good but will have a big load to carry early on. I still like their talent but it will be a rough road for them.

Mt. Juliet - Reloading for sure but still has enough talent to upset the fruit cart if things fall their way. If their bats come around watch out. MJ and WC had a game scheduled for tonight that would have answered alot of questions but lo the rain nazi strikes again.

Hendersonville and Gallatin - Don't know enough about these groups to make an informed decision but Hendersonville always seems to find their way in the mix.

Lavergne and Smyrna - A lack of community support over the years in this area has hurt these programs. Softball is a sport that must be developed from a young age. They simply have no feeder program, although I hear that is changing... We'll see.

  14. Ok folks, I saw what everyone else saw and all I can say is... it's pre-season. You had alot of missmatched districts, teams playing line-ups that you wouldn't normally see and others starting their big guns on every game. I would put zero stock in the results of this weekend as your conclusions won't pan out into the regular season. It was a good look for high school coaches to guage new players and a warm up for those who feel they have their starting 9. Other than that the travel ball coaches got a good look at prospective talent. That's about it.

  15. I see no oposition to the move and everyone has reasonable points. Let me just say this, your dealing with a bureaucracy in the TSSAA and with any bureaucracy it takes a large and coordinated act of the people to motivate them to any such action involving actual work on their part. This would need a large scale petition and interest on the part of coaches, schools and parents to get this accomplished. Enough said on that portion...

Coaches at high school games? Dore 83 has it right... Its simply not happening unless they can see a number of prospects on two well coached teams. They can see a much broader array of talent just by attending a couple travel tournaments or holding camps where players, who are interested, come to them. I would think a few may be motivated to attend regionals or state if your team has what it takes to get that far. Otherwise travel is where it's at.

As far as bypassing HS ball, that's true in conversations around the scene, especially amoung those seeking high level, D1 or Olympic play (hopefully will have the later again one day). I personally wouldn't want to cheat my daughter out of the memories of playing with her HS team. Although, I agree sometimes you just have too based on the coaching that's out there. Not everyone can attend schools with competitive traditions in their chossen sport.

I'm just glad the sport continues to be relevant. I for one would like to see it moved to the fall, if it happens great, not going to loose sleep over it though.

  16. Just noticed that the USFA is now permitting metal cleats effective 10/15. Our HS is not going to use them this year due to the injury factor, kinda makes me wonder what the appeal is? The biggest thing I've noticed, beside increased injuries, is that some use them to "cleat" the other team when sliding. So my question is what are the positives? The mud doesn't cling as much??? Maybee I'm off base here, any thoughts or perspectives out there.

  17. Our Maniax roster is currently 9 strong and seeking to add a 10th for the remainder of Fall and Spring of 09.

The team would like to add 1 strong "93" pitcher to compliment a 2 pitcher rotation. A 92 may be considered if a 93 cannot be found. We are playing with pick-ups this fall but will trim to 10 for the spring. We really only want someone who is looking for a home, we already have plently we can rely on to play pick-up.

The team will be playing solely USFA "A" and some ASA fealers to get our feet wet. We are building to start exhibition play but will only do that when the coaches and parents all feel that we are ready.
