  1. Watched Lester play tonight, and he was struggling to find his shot. He showed that he needs some serious ball handling lessons. He has a sweet turn around jumper, but he let his frustrations, get the best of him and it affected his shot. His defense also needs work. Other than that he still has the opportunity to improve upon those short comings and make it to D1, with hard work and dedication.

what was the score of last nighjt game, carter still playing 1 on 5 ball?

  2. Sullivan South 26

    Sullivan Central 17

    End of 1st quarter.

Rebels are nailing the three ball, have made atleast six in the first quarter.

    Sullivan South 43

    Sullivan Central 34

    Halftime.

Cougars went on 17-6 run to open the quarter and take their first lead of the game at 34-32, but faded towards the end of the quarter, allowing the Rebels to go on a 11-2 run and reclaim the lead going in at the break. The game can be heard on 91.5 FM with Tom Taylor.

    Sullivan South 55

    Sullivan Central 45

    End of 3rd quarter.

Third quarter was a push, both teams came out of the locker room slow and scoring ended 12-11 in favor of the Rebels.

    Sullivan South 69

    Sullivan Central 60

    Final.

Cougars made a late run of it, coming to within five points at 63-58 with around three minutes left, but were forced to resort to fouling in the last two minutes to force the Rebels to execute from the foul line. Rebels did not do a great job from the charity stripe, but it held up as the Cougars could not do anything with the ball on their end in the last two minutes.

*Sullivan South swept both games tonight, with the Lady Rebels defeating the Lady Cougars, 57-38.

like i said at the start of the season 1st and 2nd i think are sound even though db lost to central, and the rest will be up for grabs, too many of the teams are close an could win on any night, several big games coming up, sh and th high, db and east. i heard east scored over 90 pts again 2nd game in a row could friday night be 3? i think db has regrouped since the central game and will start taking care of business. big 9 is interesting leading up to the arbys!!

  3. Are you kidding me? Middle schools keeping up with points scored for a career. I would suppose Mary Hughes was a middle school when East was built. That is a long time ago probably 38 to 40 years ago. You sound like a dad to me. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

if you knew aything about the big 9 you should know when the high schools were build including central!!! east was build in 1969 same year as central. mary hughes, bluff city and holston valley combined to form east, blountville and holston combined for central. north and south followed after these. and yes i was a dad of a player in the big 9 several years ago.

  4. I believe East having great shooters is not by accident. I'm guessing their great shooters spend a lot of time working with "the marksman" aka Mark Mason , arguably the best jump shooter NET has ever known. It's all about learning proper mechanics and making them second nature thru repetition.

cross played for mason in middle school for 3 years and ended up the all time middle school scorer there. so i would guess he and mason spend alot of time together in the gym!!

tricitiessportsfan Pick??™em record (as of Dec. 14): 13-3*

*Note of Interest: Two of my three pick??™em losses come from picking against Sullivan East.

just a note they were handing out a paper at the east game friday the game with crockett has been changed to tues night at east due to floor problems at crockett. i also think volunteer will defeat th high the rest of your prediction my be true, are you saying east is better than expected?

  6. I don't see East beating DB. I know they killed Central and Central beat DB, but I don't see it happening.

The fact that East has all these 3pt shooters, year in and year out blows my mind though. Snapp last year, along with Cross and Deeb, now this year both Cross and Deeb look impressive. If you guys remember, the senior class this year at Sullivan East and Sullivan Central has the Mary Hughes and Holston teams that played in the State Championship game in Middle School. Cross was playing on the Mary Hughes team as a 6th grader then /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

Both of these teams could quiet possibly make some noise this year.

the only players from east on that team playing now is dishner, and cross. the jr class at east now played agaist mary hughes in the championship games in middle school when cross was a 7th grader. so the next 2 years could be good for east if you consider the past!!! also central was suppose to beat east after all they were picked 2nd or 3rd, so db might have a fight on their hands friday night. the season in the big 9 looks to be interesting this year.

  7. I won't go into too much detail about tonights game (Central vs. East) but I'll give my opinion.

Centrals defense was TERRIBLE! Absolutely god aweful. You would think after Deeb knocked about 5 in your face you would put a guy on him. Deep and Jordan Cross single handily beat the Cougars. East really stuck it to them, they shot the ball VERY well which is what they need to do to win. I don't see the Patriots winning too many on the road just because they rely on the outside shot. Its tough to shoot in different gyms.

Centrals only bright spot was Roberts. He had 7 threes I believe. He should have had around 23 points or so. He had 11 in the first quarter if I'm not mistaken. Brown being out for the Cougars really hurts them on offense. Brown helps the Cougars so much at PG regardless if he scores or not. He just doesn't turn the ball over very often. I can only remember one turnover he had against DB! With Brown out, they had to play Box and Harmon. Neither one had very good games, they threw the ball away, a lot. I would like to know just how many turnovers the Cougars had, I'm sure it isn't pretty.

What really disappointed me the most was the fact that the Cougars didn't take advantage of their post play. Against teams like East you need to be feeding the ball to DEVAULT! He doesn't get near as many touches as he should.

One thing I would like to know is where in the world does East get all these shooters from! The Deeb kid and Jordan Cross both are lights out shooters. I'm sure that can change in any given game but you could tell from watching Deeb in warmups that he was a shooter. YOU CAN'T LET THOSE GUYS SHOOT THE THREE BALL!!! I'd say they both scored over 20pts a piece.

Centrals offense needs to start scoring too. You can't score 60pts a game every week in the Big 9 and win all the time. In order for that to work they have to play defense like they did against DB.

    Oh well, back to the drawing board I guess. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

east has always been a 3 pt shooting team, seems they always endup with 1 or 2 players that can fill it up. if the in side keeps coming around it may not be the end of the season teams will worry about playing them, good test next week they got db in kingsport, i think they have opened some eyes after last night.

  8. Yes I have and on the swinging bridge there too. I am talking about the old wooden bridge back in 1982. You know the one with missing pieces.

yes that bridge was missing several boards and was closed for awhile but has been rebuilt and is still used today. glad to see some of the soph guys had a good game tonight especially brandon for ae congrat on the win keep it up.

  9. Jordan Cross (soph) would be one of the names mentioned that is playing well. He needs to work more on his skill set, but other than that he is a great addition for Sullivan East. Bluss City all the way! LOL "Egypt Road inside joke!"

Drew Daniels,(jr) a very capable player, who has a good bball IQ, he has a chance to become even better this year with the Indians relying on him more and more, and also Cory Hall, (soph) who has yet to get as much playing time as the more seasoned players, but next year he will have to make an impact for this program to move on.

I will be making my rounds this season into this area to see more games this year than in the past. Science Hill and Cheroee, out of Rogersville, TN , will be playing on Saturday, but I have opted to travel to Chattanooga for the AE and Brainerd game. it's more exciting to watch these 2 play.

Most teams in this area really don't have as many outstanding players, but the players all together make an outstanding team. It goes to show that team ball does exist, if only in Upper East TN.

i take it you have been on egypt road in bluff city?

  10. Another huge upset in the big 9. It never stops. How do you beat DB and lose to East? I understand that Brown was out, but still I think this team could have put up a better fight. Even without Brown they should have won. Vannoy shot like 25 times again. Coach Vaughn needs to do something about that. You think Vannoy would notice his shot isn't falling and say "maybe I should taper off this shooting business." He doesn't. He shoots more. Ridiculous. I don't know what in blue blazes is going on in the big 9.

well rebel i will tell you how to lose to east let them shot the 3 ball, if it is falling anybody in the big 9 will go down in defeat tothem, i would guess about 20 3's was made between both teams with roberts making almost all of them for central, east was spead out over the team which makes them hard to beat. i don't know what was wrong with devault tonight i didn't think he played enough!!

  11. East clobbered Central tonight at the Patriot Palace by about 30. Got to say East got a lot of calls their way and it stopped Central from getting anything going. East did look good putting up almost 90 on the cougars they could definitely be a force to reckon with when their shots are falling.

i was also at the game tonight and i thought it was one of the best called games i have watched in the big 9 this year, i would also say east never GOT alot of calls but it the calls that was made was correct calls for a change, still alot of fouls inside but over all was probly a B called game. the point guard for central was hurt that would have made a diffence but i don't think 30 pts.

  12. I know exactly where you are coming from, and by the way I know several people from your team, and have known them from years. I travel throughout the middle and eastern part of the state providing services to ball players. Next Level is a benificial organization, and having the chance to work with them i'm sure gave you an insight into the physic' of ball players from the Knoxville Area. It is a hard market to get involved in, and to also convince parents and players that a program does exist.

Throughout the country from state to state several programs do exist that provides fundamentals, conditioning, and basic knowledge for student players to work, and achieve a greater learning experience in sports and college preparation. I have talked with several scouts, and others involved in basketball in this area, and this is not an isolated incident. No doubt, basketball is on the rise in this area, but to a certain level. Several programs have popped up providing these services to the potential players that are coming up into the lime light. Next Level, Vision Athletics, and D1 sports to name a few provide these services for a nominal fee. But once again, just like you said, the players are the ones who are capable of achieving that goal, and it lies within them.

Lester, without a doubt in my mind, is a hard worker, but as you say, he only works on the things he wants to work on. I agree with you on the aspect, that it could pose a problem in his future. Joe has a tendency to become complacent, right now he is satisfied that he has a place to go for college, and that is a dangerous mind set to be at. Just because you have sealed the deal, the work doesn't stop. He has to maintain his standings, and also step up his work ethic because high school workouts are not like college workouts. These are the only 2 people that I project to have some potential to go beyond high school.

ballking2008 do you ever get to come to the northeast tn to was some games in the big9? if so do you see any young talent from this area such as soph or jrs.? i know there are a lot of talent in the knox area.

  13. Do you think these guys will ever realize how bad they are? You see them and hear them and they think they are doing a great job. I think they are more worried about getting the Arby's and big tournaments than they are making calls.

I understand in their meetings they spend the whole time talking about mechanics and looking good versus making calls. It doesn't matter how good you look if your calls are terrible.

I would love to sit with Ralph or Jim and show them what is seen from the stands.

YOu read the boards on this and other sites and never hear anyone say they did a great job.

    Wake up Big 9 officials.

i will agree totally all they worry about is making the arby's. i guess they can show the other teams from away that we are having good officiating. NOT you guys need to call every game reguardless of the out come or who is playing and you will start getting respect, other wise your going to reap what your sowing. if you start ejecting some of the palyers making hard fouls that will be a start and then take care of the rest. jmo none of this will ever happen because like you said they are doing a great job!!!!!!!!!!

  14. I agree that this was the worst officiating I have seen in the many Big 9 Conference games I have attended to date. I also agree that good officiating can have an influence at the end of a game, especially with fouls that lead to free throw opportunities. However, I still believe the officials did not make the difference in this game. They were consistently bad throughout the game and did not seem to discriminate. The Cougars whipped the Indians last night. Both will benefit from the outcome. Sullivan Central will gain confidence from the victory. Dobyns Bennett will refocus and learn from the loss. I would say if you asked any of the players on the floor, from either team, they all would admit the officiating was bad, but I also believe they would tell you the officiating wasn't the difference in the game.

this must to have been a normal vol team game from what i read in the paper today, 2 int, 2 tech,54 fouls and 72 free throws glad to see the officials calling what they should hope their calling continues to stop a lot of the fouls and the palyers can play the way the should.

i didn't mean central would have lost or db would have won if the officiating would have been better but i agree it is terrible on both sides i hope their boss has a meeting with them and puts his foot down on the way it is going now. also you have been pretty good on prediction so far what about friday night game?

  16. Quit kissin up and eat your CROW like a man. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> You remind me of a Redskins fan after they beat Dallas. All of the sudden everybody was breaking their Deon Sanders jerseys out!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

cap1 i think if you look back i picked central 3rd and said they did have a good team. even by centrals win last night i still think they are 3rd after that it will be close, tn high went to ot last night agasit boone which has won how many games? they are several teams close in the conference this year for a change and should be several good games. maynot be the talent the big 9 has been use to over the years. jmo

  17. frogger, the officials were bad both ways. It was obvious they were bad both ways. That said, the referees were not a factor in the outcome of the game, they were a push.

i have seen several big 9 games this year and this is the worst i have seen for officating. they are watch the ball instead of the shooters and jerseys being held and players dribble by and then they make a hand check call. i think if they make and call a good game for both teams their are a lot of teams that could make a difference at the end of the game by freethrows. but you have to also look at what teams get the calls because of tourn. jmo

  18. I don't see as big a spread as you guys. I believe Tony and the cats learned a little about themselves in the Hill beatdown. DB wins all matchups but won't turn the Cougars over as much as the Hill. I see a slower paced game with DB wearing em out in the post. 60-45.

db will beat them worse than the hill, central don't have a chance agaist the inside. 87 to 52

  19. Thanks TCSF for the DB analysis. I like the part about how Crockett can't make lay-ups, open jumpers, or free throws. That's the perfect storm, right there.

I went to the Tn High East game. THS controlled the game for 3 of the 4 quarters, so it was pretty much an open and shut game. But I'll delve in further..

East- Bad. I won't spend too much time here. Horrible defense. They have some pretty interesting three point shooting, but other than that, not much else. Their threes were falling tonight and they still weren't in contention in this game. They turned the ball over like crazy, and like I said, the defense was atrocious. Bad. Grade: D

THS- The Vikings played reletively up-tempo, much to my suprise. But first thing is first. Number 11 for the Vikings looks exactly like Edward Norton. You know, the guy from Fight Club and the newest Hulk. Just like him. He should only be refered to as Edward Norton from now on. Also, Corey Young got the ball stolen from him by a former Holston Optimist player. Not pretty on Corey's part. Not a whole lot to report from the Vikings camp. They ran their pattened defense where they play like they're on fire and foul people until the opponent is dazed and confused. When they weren't killing people, they did create a lot of turnovers, and made plays on the break. The offense wasn't dazzing, but they shot the ball well, worked it inside well to Canty, and just took good shots. A lot of the Vikings points came from running on the break, off turnovers (thanks East!) Like I said, it was a smoothe, methodical offense and they got the shots they wanted. This all seems nice, but I have to think a lot of it has to do with East's horrible defense. I do know that THS's defense was there, but it's hard to gauge their offense from this East team. The starters played almost of all this game, I'm sure because their bench has been described as very week. Young played pretty well, knocking down jumpers and running the offense and Webb look good tonight, playing within the offense and did some nice things. This looks like just another year for THS. 3rd in the conference, perhaps? Grade: B.

i wil agree wityou tonight the pats coun't guard their shadow. i had seen better defense in middle school if this was the best they have look out in the bottom. i will also say t high don't have much bench but cantyand youn cn be tough to handle. i guess this was why you never had to writ much in your pad tonight wasn't it. i had seen east play alot better but tonight was bad, i thought both teams showed good things at times but like you said with the great defense east played anyone would havelooked good.
