  1. Who will be assistant football coaches at Science Hill? Has S. Smith named his staff yet? Will he be allowed to bring any coaches with him?
  2. Did I read that Coach Smith was not going to be teaching any classes? If correct, how well will the faculty @ SHHS accept Smith? It was my understanding, teaching was a problem @ Independence. I assume if it is correct, Smith had better win BIG & WIN NOW! Bless his ever loving HEART, good luck Coach Smith. Is Smith allowed to hire/bring any assistant football coaches with him?
  3. Interesting, looking forward to see what shakes out!
  4. "I do think that Overbay would have done a good job had he been given the opportunity. The others do have experience as Head Coaches though." I'm not so sure what it is you see in Overbay. Name the different schools he has coached at to gather his coaching philosophy and how many different coaches has he worked under? Not trying to be negative by any stretch. I'm sure he could be a good receivers coach under Smith, if he extends the offer.
  5. Is anyone else out there in Al Gore's playland thinking Science Hill is taking it's own sweet time in naming a head football coach? I know it was mentioned they would have a coach in place by January 1st. For crying outloud, this is silly. As always in Johnson City, let's keep basketball at the forefront as long as possible. Make the decision!
  6. Just know what I read in the Johnson City Rag (Press). I have not spoken with him personally about the opening. I do know he was and still is well thought of in Johnson City. The Red Man has coached many over the years in Jefferson City & Johnson City. I do think the world of Coach Turner and believe he would once again be a GREAT hire for Science Hill and Johnson City.
  7. His daughter was a freshman/soph in high school at the time. She missed Jeff Co. (she and her brother grew up in Jeff Co. w/ dad being at C-N for many years) and was alittle homesick. He was there for two years ('92 & '93 seasons), 1st round in '92 (last year TSSAA took only the top two from each region), 3rd round in'93. Lost to Oak Ridge by 3 points in a driving rain storm. OR kicker had not made a FG all year and hit a 41 yarder. SHHS had a shot to tie with less than 10 seconds left and missed a chip shot to tie. Your son would love playing for the Red Man!
  8. Don't know PatMan, Red Man loves competition. Don't know how long being Eagle Club director would fill his hole to compete. Just my opinion, Red Man would be the perfect fit for SHHS once again.
  9. You may want to ask him when he returns to Johnson City. JJ
  10. Amen brother! Mike Turner is a class act. Johnson City would love to have him back in charge of The Toppers. I view him as the individual bringing the community back together. He is well thought of in JC. One heck of a football coach also, Graham doesn't want to face Turner and his veer offense again. The Red Man returns!
  11. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Don't be surprised to see "The Red Man" back in Johnson City. Mike "Red Man" Turner
  12. stony: You know how things in JC work. The present coach has been in office for 8 years. A rollercoaster record, you might say. The JC powers must be dying off. I'm surprised he has been at the helm this long.
