  1. I couldn't agree more goosevol. Had Rockwood taken advantage of Musick's mistakes in the first 2 innings, it might be a different team heading to the boro.
  2. Looks like we'll get to see another great game then!
  3. I agree 100% with everything you've said here. OBPRIDE, I think you are right too about the interaction away from school ball. Many players from various teams in the Carter/Johnson county area are good friends. Unicoi does tend to stay to themselves and they play together all year long. And, as we can all see, it pays off. They deserve an enormous amount of respect for that kind of dedication.
  4. Great job to both teams tonight. That second game was a great contest. Good luck to both teams in regionals.
  5. Haha, i have way too much fun reading this stuff. First of all ehsfaithful, you're memory doesn't hold correct this time. No ehs did not beat unaka last year twice. they didn't even play each other in "true" games, or at all. Second, scrimmage game whatever. Take the posts for what they are, you understood the point that was being made; and the point wasn't to make anyone look bad. I found the comment about Unaka beating Elizabethton flattering to the cyclones considering the fact that #12 fan was talking about good teams that unaka had played this year. Anyways, good job to EHS in the district tonight. They played Unicoi with all the heart in the world and Unicoi was lucky to get away with that second game. Good luck Lady Rangers!!
  6. I think Black bunny brought up a very good question. However, it seems that we've lost sight of answering it. I only know about Unaka High's pitcher last season. I got the chance to talk to her during the middle of the season and she said that she pitched all of the games, batting practice or workouts with her catcher on practice days, and did her own workouts with her catcher or pitching coach on the weekends. The least she threw in the season was maybe 5 days a week. I'm sure there are pitchers out there that have a lot of relief but she didn't have anyone to back her up. She did what she had to do, and what she thought was right... so how much is too much?
  7. You're exactly right buckshot. UHS did play their JV against EHS varsity Friday night. They played jv against Unicoi last night too, all except Musick's two innings on the mound. Coach Hicks knew that the rangers would be seeing Unicoi again at the NFS tourney and EHS the next day at the jamboree, so he got the Unaka JV some game time. They probably won't have many JV games this season, so I don't blame him. Lady Rangers congrats on your win against Elizabethton this morning! Keep working hard and I'm sure you'll work all of those kinks out Also, great job to ALL of the teams at the Unaka Jamboree this week. From what I got to watch, it looks like a lot of promise for this season in East TN. Hope everyone has a great season!!
  8. VA high will not be returning for the remainder of the jamboree. Tonight the Lady Rangers are playing in their place against Elizabethton, and Saturday John Battle will take their place. Unaka also plays Unicoi tonight and they will face Elizabethton a second time tomorrow.
  9. Unaka played two scrimmages thursday night. They beat Morristown East and lost to Unicoi.
  10. First of all, Im sorry for the delay in this reply, and it might have had a different effect had I posted it sooner. I agree with too many statements posted to name. For those of you who think Ronnie Hicks or any other coach at Unaka "recruits" players, they don't have to. As Forrest Gump once said "that's all I have to say about that." Districtted, when I posted about UH receiving a conference title here, a district title there, I was referring to the fact that neither team has been able to win the whole package (conference, district and region) in a few years. MJ... I agree with Luvball, there is no need to cut down other players. You are obviously a lady cyclone and I want to wish you luck against the lady rangers, even though Ill be cheering for UHS. The fact that you feel the need to make personal attacks on hard working student-athletes (who are very successful by the way) proves that their decision was the right one . Hats off to them for that. By the way, I'm not trying to start a fight either...
  11. You're right districtted, University High has been a problem for the Lady Rangers over the past few years. However, I feel that some of UH's "heart" was lost after last year's class graduated. The rivalry in UH rests now in only a few of the players and maybe one coach, instead of the whole team. Over the past 3 years, along with the help of some really talented players such as Mcveigh and Backers, UH took a district title here, a conference title there; but now I believe the returning players from Unaka expect the whole package of themselves. It will be a strong team with the heart of a lion. I think the only Single A team around here that will be able to keep the lady Rangers from their titles, is the Lady Rangers. They will make or break their own season. It all depends on how hard they are working.. I can't wait to see how it all turns out.
  12. I have not heard much about it. I do know that some of the bigger schools playing will be Science Hill, Morristown West, Dobbyns Bennett, and Unicoi. If I find anything else out I will post.
  13. Maybe instead she should tell that to the coaches at these schools. I know from experience some of the coaches in this area expect a level of commitment from their athletes. And although I agree in a certain level of commitment, the way some coaches go about receiving it is the wrong way. They "run off" so to speak some of the athletes that they can tell are passionate about their other activities. I played a second sport my freshman year of high school that i had played and loved playing for 10 years... and if i had been treated the same as the other girls on the team I would not have quit. I was not alone in what i went through either. I agree that the smaller schools can use all the help they can get, but i guess i am just trying to say that behind every problem is another problem.
