And who might those coaches be? I am having trouble even thinking of one great coach that Riverdale produced. Maybe you or LOD can fill me in.
-
I may be wrong but I think in his presser he said he was hired to call plays and that is what he was going to do. He was talking about offense at the time.

All this ring talk......in the last ten years Riverdale is 3-10 against Blackman. Riverdale had a great run with Rankin. Of course during Riverdale's run it was Riverdale and Oakland in Murfreesboro area. Riverdale during this time was pulling in kids from Eagleville too. Now in the area you have Siegel, Blackman, Rockvale, SC, and Eagleville with teams. Before long there will be Almaville, Walter Hill, and Christiana area high schools. The past is the past.
As for the poster saying NC would have beaten the Murfreesboro schools.....naw I don't think so. Big difference beating 1A and 2A schools then beating 5A and 6A schools. Even with talent. I saw NC during this time and even when they were winning gold balls they struggled to beat even 3A schools.
As for Creasy vs McDaniels......we will never know. If McDaniels had stayed at Oakland would they have won more gold balls? Probably so. If Creasy was at Rockvale would they have won a gold ball already? Probably not. Both are good to great coaches. Both have been blessed to have been around great talent while at Oakland.
As for Blackman which this thread is about.....we know Tygard will run the offense. Any ideas who might be a candidate for the defense?

Not sure if he has been mentioned but I would say McAdams from I believe Milan then Lipscomb. Good coach and person. Lipscomb really hasn't been the same since he left. I know they had a good run this year but they also had a ton of more resources.

Midstate I agree. I should have clarified when I stated having a coach with previous head coaching experience on staff. I think Blaze is correct that Daniels could end up on staff. But I would also get another more seasoned veteran coach.
-
As far as Creasy goes, he is a very good (great) person and coach. He also surrounds himself with loyal, hard working, knowledgeable assistants. But..... he also isn't hurting for talent.
Some of the best coaches in the state have had similar circumstances. Look at Rankin and Quarles. Same formula.
But there are plenty of head coaches and staffs that are just as good and work just as hard but might not get the same results due to talent. They go hand in hand. JMO

Daniels would be interesting no doubt. Seems like they are good buddies and Daniels was very successful. I would think having a previous head coach on staff would be a good idea in terms of general day to day operational knowledge.
-
I see where Blackman is looking for assistants. Any staff members staying or are they cleaning house?
-
I wouldn't say that is a guaranteed outcome. I know in the past that it has happened but typically only after a coaching change. Shelbyville kept their coach so they might not win an appeal.

I don't know of a public school system in Tennessee where that's not the case. And in fact, most of the coaching supplement contracts, as I understand it, are "at the pleasure of the system", meaning they can be cancelled anytime by the school systems. The teaching contracts do require notice where there is tenure, again from my understanding.
That's what I thought as well.

If I'm not mistaken teaching/coaching contracts are on a year to year basis.

After being a middle school head coach he was with Creasy as an assistant of some sort. Either way he became Blackman's DC under Watson. So imo you cant really say he went from being a middle school coach to a high school head coach. There were jobs in between. That is like saying Creasy went from being an assistant to being Oaklands head coach and leaving out his time at other stops including TC.
So in your opinion what was Hartsfield lacking in? Who would you target for Blackman now?
-
I don't know the specifics but something had to have gone on for Shelbyville to let Palmer go. Then you have the Siegel issue. And wasn't Palmer going to Summit before backing out on them? Too many bright red flags imo.
And ive heard he is a good coach and his record backs that up. But not once have I heard he was a good person until fuzzy brought it up.
Blackman needs to get this hire right.
-
I see. Agreed.

Just my opinion but if Hester were interested he better hope he gets it if he puts his name out there. He already left Ravenwood once for greener pastures. I cant see him leaving again and ever being welcomed back.
And if you are Blackman do you really want Hester? Is he the best you can do? Why not reach out to Jackson at Oakland first?

Tom why is he in over his head? If I'm not mistaken he was a head middle school coach, pretty sure he spent a year as an assistant under Creasy at Oakland, and was a DC at Blackman before his promotion to HC. Sounds like a logical progression.
-
Hartsfield is the HC.

Jimmy your comment on number of students is what I was thinking. Running TC schools is about the same as running Watertown. No comparison when you add in all the other WC schools.
-
How many students are in the entire TC school system? Running TC schools is a lot different than WC. I honestly think when Wright retires WC stays in house.
-
Who will remain on Hesters staff and who will be bring in?
-
I think everyone agrees he is a good guy and coach. The other stuff is debatable.
My main question is still why not open up the job and see who applies? If Hester is the best candidate ok but that didn't happen.
-
Midtn I have to disagree. It's not hard to turn away starting a program when your parents live across the street from where you are at and you used to go hunting where the school is located. He threw all that away when he left the first time to go to where the athletes were.
Also and its just my opinion but if a coach leaves to go start a program down the road his loyalty goes with him. I just think they should have opened it up to see who was interested. There could have been an even better choice so its not wasting time.

Ravenwood won a championship with Rector. As for Hester, good guy and coach. But if he really liked Ravenwood so much he wouldn't have left to start Nolensville. Much of what boowho said is accurate like it or not.
My question is why didn't Ravenwood open the job up to at least see what interest there was?

Crawford did not get his start at Riverdale. Neither did Maynord. I'll give you McDaniel. The others I am sure are/were good coaches. But to say Riverdale has produced the best coaches throughout the state. Naaaa I don't think so. Good coaches sure.
