  1. Rumor has it that Coach Smith resigned from the Indy football team today. Due to the principal, and Atheletic Director. Can anyone confirm this?

I was given the impression it was mainly the athletic director though. What a great coach to loose. Any team looking, this would be a great man to have at the helm.

Some would say that this means that he is headed for Cenntenial. Who knows? I dont know why Smith would leave Independence for Cenntenial. It would be stupid in my opinion.

  2. I am one of Tyler garrett's friends and to see him quit the ball team for rutledge really says something. he loved the game and was starting to have a really good season but the coaches screwed him over just like they tried to do every other senior since i have been going to RhS. I mean when you sit a senior down and let a freshman play over him that isnt that good. I mean i can understand if garrett wasnt doing that good and they sit him down but he was doing really good. And he didnt lie to the coaches that isnt the reason he quit. this is what he told me..... The numeber one reason he quit was because he was tired of putting up with the coach kip combs crap all of the time... Combs took him out EVERY single time he made a mistake, and everyone knows that noone can play like that and not make a mistake. And he said he loved playing ball but he was just tired of getting treated like he did by the coaches. So that is why The garrett 6'7 boy quit at rutledge. I mean you go to a rutledge game, they brought Ben williford in just this year and i mean he is pretty good but there is no way that he should be playing over steven starbird the other senior that Kip Combs is trying to screw over. Just go watch a rutledge game and you will see what i am talking about...... The coach dont know how to coach and keep a team together. There is not one single player that enjoys playing on that team, and now they have put Kip in as vice Principal gosh lets see how that one works out in the future........

Your title reads "the Combs brothers dont know how to coach." Why did you forget to tell us something, anything about how they coach wrong? All you told us is what your friend told you. Do you have any real thoughts of your own? Do you think that there are freshman who have more god given talent that seniors, obviously not. Coaches make decisions based on what is best for the team. Some players may not agree with the decisions but hey, thats life. Since you feel so strong to say this on the board my suggestion would be to tell all of this to the combs brothers. But of course to do that you would have to let them know who you are and you probably dont want to do that...do you.

  3. I would like to send you additional information but I will not put it out on the web. If you like, turn on your account to accept e-mail, I will e-mail discussion items and some other important information.

Again thanks for the information. I have amended my account so that you can now email me the information. I look forward to hearing from you soon. If there is any information that you want from me then just let me know at that time.

  4. Sunset Middle is located on Sunset Road. Sunset Road runs between Nolensville Road in Nolensville and Concord Road in Brentwood. The school is about two miles north of Nolensville Road and four mile south of Concord at the Governors Club. The eight grade will be added after the summer break this year.

You can find pay and supplements on the Williamson County Schools site on previous post.

Last year team was the first for seventh & sixth graders and mainly played against varsity. The athletic fields were put in 2006 and they will be ready for 2007. Sunset Middle and Woodland Middle feed into Ravenwood. Sunset Middle has a current head coach from Red Boiling Springs. He left Woodland Middle as a head coach to start up the football program at Sunset. I don’t if he will stay with the football program since he lives so far away. There were only two assistant coaches in 2006 but one will not be returning to coaching football due to coaching other sports. Multiple positions are open in sports as well as football. Again, since the school is new, it’s a developing program.

The school has tremendous support from the Athletic Club but being new, it is “Work in progress”.

As far as Coach Rector, I cannot speak for him. Would Coach Rector like to see the two feeder middle schools to coach-up the kids better before they come over as freshman to Ravenwood? You can count on it. I’m sure Rector and other assistants at Ravenwood are more than willing to offer advice sought by other coaches within the feeder schools. Coach Rector can only control his own program and cannot control the development at the middle school level.

If you never coached in this area of Williamson County, you have no ideal of the support (volunteer and financial) giving by the parents and the community to the local schools.

Sunset Middle School web site is attached. Sunset Middle Web Page

Rapbwood---Thanks for the information. Sounds like a great area and its probably not too far from where I grew up and also not far from where I live now. I have not ever taught in Williamson Co. and I dont know much of anything about the schools. I know that I have good support where I am now, but then again I have lost three games in three years so support is easy to find. And all three losses came to the eventual city champs, the team hasnt lost in five years:(

Sounds like it could be an ideal job if the current head coach leaves. I know that I can only go up the ladder so to speak and my pride will not let me be a middle assistant. Having the school feed Ravenwood is also a plus because I know the offense well. I actually ran Ravenwood's offense this year for my team. Same terminology, same formations, same plays, etc. Anyway, I am happy where I am but this definately caught my eye and has my interest. Thanks again for the information.

  5. Sunset Middle in Brentwood/Nolensville area of Williamson County will be starting up the 8th grade in the new school year after summer break in 2007. Great oppurtinuty for coaching different programs as well as teaching at the new middle school. Positions are not posted to date but should be available later on in 2007 as this school year ends.

rapbwood---where exactly is the new school? I am assuming it will feed into Ravenwood. How is Rector to work with as far as his feeder schools? What is the coaching supplement for the head coach? Are they going to look outside of the system or just inside? As you can tell I am interested. If you know any of this information it would be helpful.

  6. Admissions day was a few weeks ago. There were actually more Una applicants than normal. Of course, as always, more will go to Antioch. It is 3 times larger at least.

Very interesting. I know that none of my kids are going there next year. But we have a big school so most of the kids that I get rid of go on to UNA. Plus UNA kids come from all over so other coaches might be the reason for the UNA express. I have two kids there now and both will probably be starters next year as sophmores. I can only imagine what it would be like if both were at AHS instead.

  7. Well, in '04 Centennial hung 30 or so on Ravenwood but we all know what's happened since then. Just because MBA beat Trinity a couple years ago really doesn't mean much.

A check of the Trinity website indicates the 2006 jv team averaged 41 ppg while giving up 10. This included a win over Cincinnati Moeller, which I think has one of the best high school programs in the country. Agree they couldn't play with local varsity teams but apparently a pretty strong year.

a jv schedule doesnt mean anything at all. Moeller is not ranked anywhere in the top 25 or in the top 10 in the midwest. A strong year for trinity ---sure. Several teams had strong years here and I doubt someone would be brazen enought to say that a jv team would whip the varsity of trinity.

  8. Maybe I am wrong but I could swear that MBA beat trinity a couple years ago. So you saying that trinity's jv could beat most of our varsity teams---what a joke. MBA wasnt even good two years ago.

I guess I should have read all of the board before I spoke. oops. Still my point is correct. MBA beat trinity and MBA was not very good. Your statement about their jv beating most of middle tn varsity teams is a joke and a knock on Tennessee football. Why dont you tell Ravenwood, Smyrna, Hillsboro, BA, Goodpasture, etc. that trinity's jv could beat their varsity teams. ha

  9. Obviously you havent seen Trinitys jv team. I am from Louisville Male, Trinitys JV would beat most Varsity teams and yes even Williamson Co. If this is true then Centennial will be most interesting the next couple of years. If it is the twins that I know of.

Maybe I am wrong but I could swear that MBA beat trinity a couple years ago. So you saying that trinity's jv could beat most of our varsity teams---what a joke. MBA wasnt even good two years ago.

  10. Are they Sophomores this year, or will they be sophomores next year?

    Haven't heard anything about this

Thats not really news worthy is it? Teams get new players in all the time. You even said that they werent on varsity but tore up JV. Who really cares? Tearing up a JV team doesnt matter at all. The only thing that MIGHT be news worthy is if their dad is getting the HC job. Hard to believe that though with all of the high quality coaches in the midstate.

  11. Key question: Will the UNA Express train still be rolling into BA with new coach?

I dont think so. I get a lot of UNA kids and I know that some of the UNA coaches try to get kids to go there. But once they get to me I try everything I can to get them to go to AHS. With Woodward at Antioch I think the UNA Express will start going where they are supposed to.

  12. I need a translation/explanation.

I think that this will be a tough job to fill. There are a lot of expectations here to deal with. Like rapbwood said coming in second two years in a row is not going to cut it. Of course the real reason was because Flatt was finished dealing with the TSSAA. I see BA going with a young coach, Quarles and Rector would fit the mold here. Both are great coaches who are young and could stay there for a long time. Some of the older coaches would be great for the time being but who knows how long they would stay. When a new coach comes in is he going to be able to make some staff changes? A good coaches is only as good as his supporting assistants. Will there be any ill will if the "wrong" coach is selected? Will Carlton Flatt truely step down or will he try and insert his thoughts? Will the community support the new coach if he wants to try "new" approaches/schemes? In the past BA has been pretty vanilla as far as schemes go. They have out athleted most teams. And they still can but think what would happen if Rector came in and ran the spread. Look out. It will be interesting to see what happens here.

  13. the support has been great!!

everyone wants to help in some way

hope it translates into more ad sales in 07 :( I have heard it will

one good thing about winning the state chamionship -- it is the ultimate trump card against any smack talk until the 1st game kicks off the next yr then it is gone.

you now can see what it feels like losing to a region team that goes on to win the state --- there is really not much you can say or risk looking like an idiot

now imagine this happening 9 times or so instead of just one and you get the idea

please keep sending ideas for games and I will make sure they are passed along

this may sound crazy but has anyone thought about contacting Nissan? A lot of smyrna residents work for Nissan. It would make sense, which doesnt mean that it will happen, that if people are in smyrna for Nissan then Nissan should be willing to help the people of smyrna and the kids who may go on to work for them. just a thought.

  14. You need to learn to win, and lose, with class. There is nothing to be said other than Riverdale got beat by a team that wanted it more. It takes more than talking trash on the internet.

Sorry to be harsh but you've said enough already.

I couldnt agree more. Riverdale no one will say that you arent a good team. But the fact is that smyrna was better when it counted this season. Get over it, move on, and admit that smyrna deserves some respect this year. I dont get why riverdale fans say how great they are and take cheap shots at smyrna or any other team for that matter. A team of class doesnt have to speak because their actions are louder than words.

As for the rings I am sure Smyrna will find a way to pay for them. And I dont see anything wrong with them asking for donations. The kids deserve the rings no matter what it takes. The community will support them.

  15. So your argument is that privates should be split because of the dedication of the parents? All this time I thought the arguments were recruiting, better paid coaches, 3" lush bermuda fields, and impressive weight rooms.

Okay, so what do you do with the public schools that have the same amount of dedicated parents as private schools? Split um??????

So if the percentage of dedicated parents create the unfair advantages, then why do you want to be arbitrary and pick public/private as the criteria for splitting. Shouldn't we survey parents about their dedication, and split schools apart based on that data. And don't think I'm being facetious here, I'm not. If that's the unfair advantage, then split the schools based on that factor, not the fact the when you look at the total, on average, privates have more dedicated parents than publics. Look at the real numbers of the advantage and split ALL the schools that have the "dedication" advantage. Because I guarantee there are public schools with parents who are just as dedicated as private school parents.

Taking privates away from the publics based on that public/private criteria, only allows the publics who have the "dedication" advantage to be that much more dominant against the publics who don't have the "dedication" advantage.

Pujo---did you stop to think about what you have done? You are upset that this was posted on a football board and you consider it advertising. Did you not think that when you posted this that kids wouldnt be on here reading it. So really you did the exact same thing that you are upset over. hmmm....

  16. I think any good quality coach could do a good job. There are many asst. and middle school coaches deserving a shot.

Who would you say deserves a shot? IMO I would say that Wigginton is the man in metro middle school football. But I dont think that he wants to give up his big man in a small pond deal. The guy from Bass, I think his name is Tony Booth, does a good job every year. I know Antioch Middle's coach wants to be in a high school instead of middle school. Goodlettsville Middle's coach does a good job from what I've heard. Assistant coaches is a whole other list. Some possible names might be Fite from Hillsboro although I dont know if he would even be interested since he is at his alma mater, any one of Hillsboro's old coaches who left because they didnt get the job such as Hertzog, Phillips, etc., Bush, Felts from Indy, and you also never know who would want to move here from other areas. Examples would be the guy at Father Ryan now, I cant believe his name is escaping me, and Blade from Hillsboro.

All I know for sure is that I would hate to see metro lose out on this opportunity to give someone new a chance to see what he is capable of. Abner is supposedly going to be the coach. Nothing against the guy but what has he done at Glencliff? Has he done a good enough job to be considered the best possible candidate for the job? Hm.......

  17. Do you really think me and your Dad would ever scheme to do something? Watchout , you never know. As for Abner, since when did it matter. He is very good with kids and principals like that.

Yes I definately know that you and him would scheme something up! You two always worked well together. I know that principals like guys/women who are good with kids put in sports your record should count for something. But you are right it usually doesnt matter. How could she already know that it will be him though, shouldnt there be an interview process even if it is just to say that there was one? I just feel like no one should be handed a job in their lap. Metro has a good opportunity here to bring in a good assistant or someone new from another county/state and see what they can do. I hope they dont waste this chance.

  18. I understand Antioch played a tight 2-3 zone in the entire second halfand walked the ball down the floor. His JV played the enitre 4th qt. and alot or the first 3 qts. Antioch could of scored 125 or 130. Didn' Glencliff beat Overton this year and Antioch only beat Overton by only 12 or 13? Whites Creek beat them 40 plus already twice this year also. I think the Creek and Antioch will have a great game.I would call the Glencliff coach and ask him if Antioch ran the score up.

I would call the Glencliff coach and ask him why they didnt show up. It is not a teams job to quit playing. Its not a coaches job to try and get his kids to pull off the reigns. If all of AHS's players scored then go out a get yourself a block of cheese. Its got nothing at all to do with class or sportsmanship. My advice would be for Glencliff's coach to start coaching.

  19. Jeez,

The right fit is right under our nose, WIP. Runtheball would be the PERFECT candidate for that job. I can't believe that didn't occur to me sooner. I'm DEAD serious......he has the right personality for that type of job. Runtheball has never taken over a brand new program (although Antioch in 1993 or 1994 was almost as bad as Hillwood is now), and that could be the crowning jewel on his resume.

Yes RTB would be a good fit. He's a great coach and person and I think that if, and that's a big if, he took the job he would be able to hire some great coaches with him. I know he misses a part of the game and it would be interesting to see if he would give up retirement to come back.

  20. Abner will be the Coach. Principal loves him.

rtb---it was great to see you a few weeks back. I know you and dad had fun talking and probably schemeing something up. I know the principal is coming from Glencliff and that he has a good relationship with her, but what has he done lately? It will be interesting what names come up for this one. There are some good assistants in the area and I could possibly see Baskin throwing his name into the mix. Eric Felts would be an interesting name too but I am not sure that he would leave Indy. I wouldnt be suprised to see Abner but I think that there are some better coaches out there.

  21. Where will the school be located?

coming from nashville you will take i24 east towards chattanooga. Get off at the old hickory blvd exit, also starwood. off exit take a left towards AHS. The school is about a mile down on the left approximately 2 miles from AHS.

  22. oh so you have to play football to have an opion and post here, excuse me i didnt raed rules of posting! quick poll how many people on this board play football...betcha less than half!

True but only because most of us are too old to play and instead are coaches, fathers of players, etc...
