  1. Don't forget how many TD's Ravenwood put on John Overton last season! Any team that can spread the field and throw the football would kill the Bobcats. John Overton knows how to play run defense by placing 9 men in the box but they would get killed by a good offensive team & Hillsboro would not be considered a good offensive team.

I have a feeling a lot of Ravenwood fans will be upset to know that you compared their championship level team to Hillsboro. No comparison. Would be like comparing apples and peanuts.

  2. Workinprogess,

How is your team going to be this year? When is your first game? Do you get your philosophy from your Dad? Where can I get your schedule. Where is the new school? What game are you going to Friday?

Runtheball---The team has a lot of hurdles this year. We finally have worked it out so that we can practice at the old school. It was getting kind of hard practicing football on concrete or in the gym. I think we will be competing for a city championship this year. The only team to beat us in two years in Moore so we are hoping to get by them this year. This could be the best team I have had. I get my offensive philosophy from a lot of different people. This year I am going to the spread since that is what AHS does. I do get my defensive philosophy from Dad. His defense is one of the best. He has taught me everything I know. I can send you a schedule or fax it to you. The new school is out in the woods off Pettus. I will be going to all of AHS's games this year. I am helping them out once again. Its a great learning experience and whenever Dad retires I will probably try to go to the high school ranks. Its hard to believe I wont be seeing you this year on the sidelines. Metro has lost another great coach. Hope you are doing well and your family.

  3. The name is Woodward, and I feel this will be a good game. Clarksville's supposed to be a good team with so many starters back, and Antioch is well balanced. Who ever commits less mistakes will win, hopefully it will be Antioch.

Yeah I know the name. Sometimes my fingers cant keep up with my brain. I am sure it has happened to you before. I hate it when people get on here and correct each others grammar and spelling. Nobody is perfect. I am sure that MIKE will forgive me.

  4. I see it a couple of ways. One if the other coaches did apply for the job and someone else got it, especially someone from out of state, I think it would be hard to stay. Would you want to stay if you got turned down for a person who is in your opinion a lesser guy? I wouldnt support a coach if I felt that he wouldnt be able to help the kids. On the other hand if the guy coming in is a stand up guy and knows his football then its time to put your pride behind you and stay for the kids. I have a feeling the coaches left because they felt like they werent getting any support. When the time came for the principal to show that he/she actually did support the coaches what did he/she do? Go out and get someone from California. I hope Blade does well. Metro can always use good coaches. Its good for competition.

  5. Overtons wins this one 28-10. Overton's offense looks much improved. Scoring twice in a jamboree against Whites Creek is impressive. Plus they could have scored a third time but they let the clock run out with the ball on the three yard line. Overtons defense is always one of the best. Hillsboro's offense will take time to develop. Going from the wing to spread is going to be a learning process. Overton has great coaching and Hillsboro's head coach seems a little arrogant. Ron was a bit arrogant as well be he could back it up. Blade has earned the right to be cocky just yet. I see him making some risky calls in his first game. Against a sub par defense he would probably look pretty smart, but against Overton I think he will just look too big for his britches.

  6. I know TD very well. Little story. When he was an eighth grader at JFK they were playing Croft. TD was at QB and on one particular play Croft got through the O line and five or six Croft players stopped TD behind the line of scrimmage. TD's forward progress was obviously stopped and after a few seconds you see one of Croft's players running the other way with the ball. JFK's coach A was ticked and went to ask the refs why they hadn't blown the whistle since TD's forward progress was stopped. Five on one usually means the one isn't going anywhere. The ref told coach A that they wanted to see what TD could do because he had been breaking tackles all day. Like I said earlier, TD is a great kid and athlete. Even if he doesn't start this year it is great to know that AHS still has him for two more years!

  7. Dont count your blessings that Hillsboro will run through everyone. From what I hear the new coach is pretty arrogant. If this is true Hillsboro may overlook too many teams. Plus the new staff is not familiar with metro football. He doesnt know the tendancies of other teams. Not to mention the fact that his best personnel has left. I see Hillsboro sliding this year. They will still be good but only because of talent, not coaching.

  8. Overton is definately well coached. Anderson is the winningest active metro coach and his assistants do a great job. Anderson has one of the best defenses year in and year out. Their downfall has been offense. I think this year they turn it around and prove to be a contender. This region is going to be really close this year. I think they will be stonger than any other year in recent past and I think the tide will turn in the playoffs as well. I think Gallatin will be good too. I dont think anyone will overlook them. Antioch's new coach knows what he is doing and they should be a lot better than years past. They dont have Coker or Brown, but overall the team is better. The fourth spot is a toss up.

  9. Overtons first team scored once to Brentwoods zero. Overtons second/third/fourth team scored twice to Brentwoods zero. Final score Overton three tds Brentwood zero. Overtons first team had the ball inside the ten three times but were set back by penalties and a sack. Should have been Overton 35 Brentwood 0. Overton's defense is as stout as normal.

  10. Before being head coach at Ravenwood Rector was an assistant under Jack Daniels. I wonder if Rector was following what he had learned from a great coach? However being a great coach like Daniels I would think that he would have known not to start early? I don't know Rector well enough to judge him, so I will just chalk it up to ignorance and let it be.

  11. Workinprogress, What members of the "old Hillsboro" staff are going to be in Williamson County this year?

Herzog reportedly going to Ravenwood, Phillips reportedly going to Centennial, and another went to Brentwood (not sure exactly who though). It seems as everyone is getting out of Hillsboro while they can. Should be interesting to see how the new coach does with all new coaches.

  12. May find out, if it is true , that Herzog is headed to Ravenwood's staff, and Mose is headed to Centennial's staff.

Also hear, Buddy Brown may be at Overton this season.

I can definately see Herzog going elsewhere, but I would think that Mose might stay where he is, at least if he's still at Hillsboro. I think Mose has a lot of loyalty to his alma mater and he also has now been there the longest hasn't he. I know tenure doesn't count for everything or anything to some people, but I would hope that Mose would be given more responsibilties since he know the kids and knows Metro football. Haven't heard about Buddy going to Overton. I would love to see it. I know him and Anderson get along really well and are good friends. Could be a really good addition to OHS's staff.

As far as other Metro coaches going elsewhere, we will see this year how Ron does in Murfreesboro, McPhail will be at Father Ryan, and most of Hillsboro old staff will be in Williamson County, I think. I could also see Anderson going somewhere when he retires from Metro. Don't think he will ever stray far but could go to the right private school.

  13. Antioch looked like a team learning a new system. They have tons of talent and haven't figured out how to channel it. Once they do look out. BGA looked like a 1A team playing 5A teams. Cookeville looked pretty sharp in the games that I saw. Oakland looked okay but they really didn't impress me all that much. I saw them play against Antioch, a game that didnt count towards pool play, and they were sluggish and their routes weren't very good. Defensesively they left the middle open on the deep routes. Tullahoma looked pretty good in what I saw. Their defense was so so but their offense had good timing. Their QB throws side armed as is right on the money 90% of the time. Didn't see much of anyone else since I left at 1.

  14. HUNTERS LANE WILL WIN IT THIS YEAR BECAUSE MY CUZZIN FROM BUFFALO NEW YORK IS PLAYIN FOR THEM HE PLAY RUNNING BACK AND I THINK HE WOULD BE A BIG IMPACT TO THERE TEAM

No disrespect to your cousin but one player doesn't make a team. And if you do want to talk about impact players, Hunters Lane had one of the best last year in jeremiah. I think Hunters Lane is definately due but not because of one player.

  15. Buda Baskin has left ,and he was in total control of the offense at Mcgavock. It may be slow going on the offensive side of the ball this season.

    1 Gallatin

    2 Antioch

    3 Overton

    4 Hunters Lane

Good picks, pretty much the same teams I would have picked except for maybe the fourth spot. I see it as Overton, Antioch, Gallatin, and ? McGavock and Hunterslane could fill this spot. I like HL and they are definately due. Like you said with Baskin leaving the start of the year could be rough for McGavock so I think they slip. Hendersonville will be lucky to beat Glencliff, Hillwood, and possibly one other opponent in an upset.

  16. Shadow,

Let's tell the truth about Hillwood. Yes, it's a very tough school to win football games at for numerous reasons and IMO with it's great neighborhood location it should become an academic magnet school like Hume Fogg. To say that the region that Hillwood plays in is tough is not really true. Compared to most of the other Midstate regions it is very weak and with coaches leaving various schools it could become even weaker.

cbq---why do you think that the region is weak? the only other midstate region that is stronger is williamson co. i know most people think that rutherford co. is stronger but imo its not normally, this year may prove to be different. but across the classifications, hillwoods region is tough. with the exception of glencliff and hunters lane, that region was strong last year and imo will be even stronger this year.

shadow---your right about baskin and herzog, hopefully things will get turned around over at hillwood. How do you thing the new coach over at hillsboro will do?

  17. And being a graduate of Notre Dame should translate into much more money than most any school he would transfer to. Their alumni association and connections are second to no one. Let's not forget that we seek higher education to improve our status in life.

True, unless he goes on to another school and succeeds at football. If he gets drafted out of college then the money he will bring in will probably be substantially more than any ND alumni could offer. Plus the kid wants to play, maybe to him its not all about the money! I for one know that for me, coaching is definately not about the money, its about the game and the kids playing for me. Also, higher education is not all about a status for me, its about gaining knowledge to better myself and in turn making those around me better as well.

  18. Why would he consider a transfer to MTSU when he is so close to having a Notre Dame education? Does this kids not know the doors that will open because he is a Notre Dame graduate?

I am sure that he knows that doors will open but if he wants to play he has to get out of ND. If he stayed he would have maybe one year to prove himself, baring Brady getting injured or something. Sure he could do it, but then again nothing is certain and moving to a lesser school could improve his chances of playing time.

  19. I wonder where David will end up. He's a good player, but I don't know if any major D-I school is going to give him the car keys to the offense. I just have to wonder if he may end up back in Rutherford County, considering Clint Marks is a Senior and DW could come in and play in 2007.

I would say that would be a good choice for him. Clint hasn't gone through a season with the new coach yet but the past couple of seasons under AM didnt go too well. Clint has never really looked good as a passer and really cant run all that well either. If David comes in he may take over right away. Clint will have the spring up on him but if David really wants to play he will fight for the position. Should definately be interesting.
