  1. I know that a Coach from Maplewood turned me in for recruiting Deaunte Mason (QB Pearl Cohn) . Mason was not recruited by me but played for me and coach Smith in the 7th and 8th grade at Gra-Mar. I have seen Mason do well for Pearl Cohn but I did not hear of Maplewood turning in Pearl. Ralph , why do you continually disrespect Gra-Mar and the success the 3 coaches have had there? Komisar, Smith, and Cannon?

I know for a fact that you recruited Montez Buggs from Hillwood during summer school and it worked for you. Believe it or not , I did not turn you in to the board because i honestly care about the seniors and juniors on your team because I already won a championship with them 4 years ago. I guess coaching matters at every other level of football with the exception of Middle School.

I have a lot of respect for the Gra Mar coaches. They do an excellent job and it shows in their record. I know I saw them personally last year and they gave us all we wanted. It was early on but I could already tell that the coaches knew what they were doing and the kids already had that competitive drive in them. Middle school coaches can greatly help their feeder high school. I try my best to run the same schemes as the high school, only a watered down version. This helps the high school because the kids coming from me already have a basic knowledge of whats going on. Gra Mar coaches---keep up the good work! Maybe we will see you again this year.

  2. They are going to be young and should be real good in another year or two. I think my little brother is one of those So. going out for the QB position. Right now he is playing summer ball. So not to sure what is going on. Hate the fact I am going to be coaching and wont get to watch this season.

smith-dont know you but i think i know your brother from when he was in middle school. good kid and was probably the best receiver at his middle school. i have said that antioch is looking for the next tc and your brother could be it. good luck to him. where will you be coaching?

  3. You like Antioch, McGavock, and Hunters Lane huh????? That means that either Gallatin OR Hendersonville will be at home watching the playoffs this November according to your preseason predictions correct????? I disagree with you on both Hillwood in 2004 as well as Pearl. I won't clown you for it because the thing that makes this site so great is that everyone is entitled to share his/her opinion. I believe if a team gets to the quarterfinals of the playoffs then they are legit (NO MATTER WHO THEY PLAYED TO GET THERE). They beat both Hillsboro and Stratford that year. Pearl is going to be good. They are loaded and despite the fact that their 3A region is tough let's just say that it's better than playing Maplewood, Hillsboro, Whites Creek, Stratford, and Tullahoma (Region 5-4A) on a week-to-week basis. I believe everyone who is doubting Brunetti right now will realize that he was a good choice at season's end.

I actually would probably go with Galatin or Overton at number one and then Antioch and McGavock fighting for number three. I think Hunters Lane could play the spoiler in this region. They lost a lot of close games last year and I wouldn't bet against them. As far as Hillwood you have a good point but I still say that they weren't really all that great, just my opinion of course. I am not knocking Brunetti and Pearl at all. I will pull for them since they are a metro team. I dont know much about Brunetti so I cant knock him. When I saw them scrimage AHS they looked out of control with no one holding them accountable for their actions. I hope it was just the beginning stages of transition and that Brunetti does well. And as far as their 3A competition being tough---are you saying MW, H, WC, S, and T are week teams?

  4. Metro football teams seem to be on the decline and are fighting a tough battle this season. McG, lost the guy that ran the offense, Ovt, lost their defense, WC lost alot of very good players, Ant, is trying to put a square peg in a round hole on offense, HB, lost all their coaches, HW, will take some time to recover, MW needs a scheme on offense to open up the field, HL, needs some coaches, PC in 3a could be good if the new coach can handle the stars, GHS needs more 5a players.

I dont think metro teams are on a decline at all. McGavock will still be solid as long as Broom stays and improves as all coaches should with experience, Overton lost some key players on defense and offense but their defense is always one of the best if not the best in metro, Anderson does an outstanding job on defense, they just need some "o", Whites Creek will be down but they are always big in the trenches, Antioch is changing the offense but sometimes change is exactly what is needed to improve and succeed, Hillwood---were they ever really all that good? I know they were undefeated two years ago but they didnt play anybody good that they beat except for Stratford who lost their quarterback in the second quarter, Maplewood will be good this year and may be a real threat in 4A, Hunters Lane has good coaches and I think they too will be solid this year and will be in the playoffs as the #4 team, Pearl Cohn doesnt impress me too much, they are very unorganized and dont have anybody to keep them in line like Maurice did. All in all I think this could be metros year to take on Williamson County.

  5. I am a middle school coach. I love to see kids go out for others sports, in fact, I encourage them to do so. I am also the track coach. I try my best to get all of my football players come out for track in the spring. It helps teach them how to run, gain strength, speed, acceleration, and endurance. My big problem is with parents. This year I had probably the best athlete in nashville come out for football. His dad was completely against this because he didn't want the kid to get hurt and screw up his basketball career. During our jamboree someone stepped on his ankle. On Monday the kid showed up with crutches and his football career was over. His dad told me it was because you didn't see old football players in the NFL. He said I couldn't name one. Bruce Matthews, Jerry Rice, Doug Flutie, etc....Dad didn't like me too much because I went on to name old baseball, basketball, hockey, golf players. The point is, a kid is exactly that, a kid. They should be able to try and play as many sports as they want. There are tons of great football players that go on to excell in multiple sports. Todd Helton (football/baseball), Willie Gault and others(football/track), Deon Sanders(football/baseball), Bo Jackson (football/baseball), Michael Jordan(basketball/baseball--just kidding).

  6. They have about three guys right now competing for the position. One is from last year and as far as I know the other two are sophomores. the starter from last year will probably get the nod unless one of the two younger guys step it up, they are both fairly athletic they just make young mistakes. Like I said I think in two to three years AHS will be pretty good. McNine---still trying to figure out who you are, give me a call if you are still pretty sure you know me. If you are who I think you are I hope all is well and wish you luck.

  7. Overton would be a competitor in region 6-5A. Isn't Columbia, Centenial, and Dickson County is region 6-5A? I know they could compete with them in a year to year basis. And if they beat any one of other top four teams then they would be in the playoffs. Not a competitor, please. And you said both teams played pretty solid so right there they competed with Brentwood. Region 6-5A has been dominant recently but I think that is going to end this year. Good luck to both teams, at least until the playoffs that is.

  8. Things seem to be coming along. New offensive schemes take a while to develop and become fluid. The coaches are doing a good job bringing the guys along and getting them ready for the fall. To me Antioch's big hunt is going to be for a starting quarterback. They are still looking for the next TC and I don't think he has shown his face yet. They have a good rb but he is more of a power runner, which is different from the ever elusive style of PB. Overall AHS will be fine in time. I think they could have something really special in about two to three years.

  9. I never said that our region was the toughest. Infact all I was saying is that we are paired against in my opinion the toughest region in Williamson Co. For you to say that Galatin is the only good team is ridiculous. Ask Galatin if Overton is good, ask Overton is McGavock is good, ask McGavock if Antioch is good, ask Antioch if Galatin is good, do you see where I am going? As far as comparing Campbell to Rankin all I was saying is that if you are going to talk championships with D1 prospects that a ridiculous argument. Ending on a positive note, I think Metro has a lot of quality coaches. Galatin, Overton, Antioch, HL, and McGavock all have good coaches, and there are a lot of good assistants out there too. Galatin's assistant went to Shelbyville, Overton's old assistant and more recently McGavocks went to Hillwood, Antioch has Peden and Bush, HL has Brown and others. This region should be very interesting this year and I only hope our playoffs record greatly improves. We, like HL, are due to beat the Williamson Co. teams!

  10. The weakest region in the world? How's that? What would you say is the toughest region? I would say that over the past five years the toughest region has been in Williamson Co. And who is paired with Williamson Co? Oh yeah its the region you call the weakest. Its no wonder our teams haven't made it past the second round. I wonder which region has won the most championships over the last five years, hmmm. I would say that our region is one of the toughest. There isn't much that seperates teams 1-4. Campbell has has some bad luck but I think that will change, HL is due. How many championships has Riverdale won the last three years and how many D1 prospects have they had? By your account Gary Rankin would be a sorry coach too then right?

  11. I look for Hunters Lane to be successful this year. Last year they were close in most games and just couldn't get anything started. I think this year could be very good for Campbell and HL. As far as Anderson at Overton, he has had a great career and I don't see it being over anytime soon. I know he would love to win a championship at some point, the closest he has had was in 81 when he was an assistant under Coutras, and a few years ago there wasn't much that seperated Overton from the state champion Hillsboro burros. He wants to go out on a good note. The next school to look for a head coach will be CaneRidge in Antioch. Who knows who all will go after that one. Maybe Bush?

  12. No one hates you at all, just talking football. I agree that Galatin should be very good, I hope they are. It makes our region look even better when there isnt much difference from 1 to 4. I just interpretted the first few comments as saying that Galatin would dominate the region this year, and who knows you may. All I am saying is that it isn't going to be easy. As far as our region against williamson county, I dont think anyone has fared well against them. They are tough from 1 to 4. I think our time will come, last year Ravenwood was loaded with seniors so they should be off. Franklin didnt impress me last year. I saw them against AHS and I just didnt think they were all that good. I think this year could be Brentwoods turn again to be on top of their region so thats who I hope we all go for. Good luck to Galatin next season but I hope you all lose at least one game!

  13. Yes interesting concept. didnt know districts competed with regions though. I would say most teams have over half of their starters back. I would also say that each team probably has a high number of seniors back. Both of those are basic statistics. Typically the numbers say you have half of your starters back because typically most are upper classmen. Yes they won the region, i'll give you that. And i know they will be good. Only team to compete with Williamson Co? Did they win? Why would you brag about losing? Only competition "should" come from Antioch...didn't someone say that you should have beaten Overton? Nothing is a given, thats why we play the game. I'll say that Galatin winning the region is of course possible, but going undefeated in the region would be a shock to me. I see Galatin going 8-2 next season.

  14. You think there is a lack of competition in this region? I would say just the opposite. Last year the seeds going into the playoffs weren't determined until week 10. How could you ask for better competition. All of you galatin fans say you are a lock? What about Overton? I know you say Overton was a fluke, but were they? I think next year could be very interesting with Antioch's new staff, Overton is always good defensively, Hunters Lane is due to be good, Broom does a good job at McGavock, and Galatin is a good team. I think that in this region anybody could win and I definately wouldn't be saying that Galatin is going to have a cakewalk with this region like all of you have made it out to be. Our region hasn't fared well with 6-5A, but then again who has?

  15. Big Chief --- just curious but how many years have you coached middle school and what's your record. I know Wigginton has had undefeated season's the last four years and JFK has only lost to Moore the last two years. Can you top them next year?

  16. I would say that one of the best staffs ever was the Overton staff of 1981. They won a state championship and i believe coutras had then ranked 11th in the nation. there was a lot of talent on the coaching staff. runtheball, weren't you on that staff.

  17. Lifer---you said overton with coutras and mullican. which coaching staff was better, the one in the early eighties with coutras, or the one in the late eighties with mullican? I only ask because they were two completely different staffs.

  18. I think metro's top teams next year will be pearl in 3A, hillsboro in 4A with whites creek and maplewood in the mix, and i'll go with antioch in 5A along with mcgavock and overton. Asiatic---i follow metro football and have done so for years. you say overton's d will be horrible---if overton does one thing better than most metro schools it is defense. have you seen them play?
