Nice to see a WIP post! Will your opinion change if East somehow gets a win Friday? EN has improved greatly in the special-teams category this season. This may pay off down the road. If EN can take care of the ball and eliminate drive killing penalties, they can get back to the state title game. Several big IFs. It would be nice if EN had a practice facility on campus. Driving to a park with no goalposts each day to practice isn't an ideal way to prepare for quality opponents.

NCS, I've got a little more time this year than normal so I'm getting back into reading the boards! If EN can get a win this week over a talented FRA team, I would say Harris and company are ahead of schedule. FRA imo will be the first real test. I think Harris is a great fit at EN and hopefully in the next schedule cycle he can get PC back on the schedule. I think that game would be huge for metro. Really like what EN has done so far and looking forward to the rest of the season. And I agree, if EN can eliminate self inflicted wounds, they can get back to the championship game.

I've heard about EN practice situation. Makes things very difficult, but it's not just an EN thing. I know Overton has the same issue and a couple other practice fields I've seen are no more than a flat dust pile. Sad when teams can't practice safely on school grounds.

  2. Again, I'm not knocking this years team. I actually think Harris is a better coach than J. However, last years athletes were better. EN had some studs. Top to bottom last years team was better. Plain and simple. We will see how this team progresses the rest of the way.

I am pretty sure EN lost region to SC. But then returned the favor when it mattered.

  3. I've seen both. H2O doesn't have anyone that can keep up with the RB from Lebanon. Better keep that young man contained or it will be a long night. And unless H2O makes changes to the offense, they will not be able to consistently move the ball. Lebanon wins easily unless they turn the ball over 3 or 4 times.

  4. I'm guessing in the next ten years the Almaville area high school and the Walter Hill high school will be built. SC is overcrowded so Almaville will relieve thar area. The Lacassas and Walter Hill areas are both growing at a rate that Oakland and Siegel won't be able to accommodate the students.

  5. East Nashville's principal has been at East in the past. She also has an AP, Olige, that has been at the hs level for several years. This is a metro problem. JS should know this better than anyone. For a few years he was a teacher at Overton while he coached at Hillsboro.

Easy fix, coach where you teach. If you don't have enough teaching spots available, reach out to your feeder schools for positions.

  6. Well said Blaze45. I respect Pierce and the job he has done. But regardless of what some think, coaching at the HS level is just different. Not saying Pierce couldn't do it, but it would be very difficult especially against Oakland.

A good MS HC is pretty valuable to the building of a program, I think you you weaken the program as a whole if he moves up as just an assistant. Better comparison would probably be 1A/2A to 6A, if you can be successful coaching in the lower classes then you probably can in 6A

I agree. MS head coach running the high school system really helps build the program.

It's high school football, not the NFL.   I've seen much less qualified people get head coaching jobs.   Chandler Tygard coached at Jackson Northside (which is basically a dead program) and got the Blackman job.  It's not like he has some long pedigreed resume, and then left for Cleveland.  People that act like 6A football is some big jump that people just can't handle is such a an excuse.    You have to keep the talent at Blackman to beat Oakland.....Nobody would be more invested than Jay.

Right, it's high school football not the NFL, and not middle school either. We can agree to disagree. If it were a small school it's probably not as big of a jump. But Blackman is not a small school.

If I'm not mistaken Hughes from Fairview made that jump and has done well in 3A. He's the only one I can think of.

  9. Sure, hire him as an assistant. But why hire him as the HS head coach? What has he done on the high school level to earn a job like Blackman to compete against Oakland? Come on now. Pierce is a good person and really good middle school coach. But 6A football is a huge jump.

  10. Outsider here. I highly doubt Caine was offered anything. I'm thinking there was probably some interest on both sides and there was probably some initial information thrown out there such as typical teaching salary and coaching stipend, pretty much what anyone could get with a little research. Also, Beeman, I'm pretty sure Upperman had been pretty good before Caine got there. I can't remember the coach before name that really built the Upperman program. I want to say Herring but I may be off on that. Anyway, not taking a shot at Caine, but he did not build that program. Has he done well, yes, but so did the coach before him.
