  1. JCM didn't look like the best defense in the area. They looked bigger and stronger at every position vs. the Milan offense, but Milan moved the ball with little difficulty. Milan has been taught how to block well and it showed. It will be interesting to see if JCM can play up to expectations on defense, but if you saw the jamboree, they did not.

  2. If JCM doesn`t improve immensely over their performance tonight HC will wear them out. Thank goodness it was a jamboree. I thought MIlan looked pretty good on their scoring drive cause JCM has a pretty good defense.

What happened??? All I have heard is JCM's defense... no one expects much from their Offense, but their defense better produce better than at jamboree or they're in trouble. You can't just look good in this game, you must produce.

  3. After hearing soooo much about JCM's defense during the off season - I was surprised that Milan was able to move the ball and score like they did. Their defense was big and strong looking, but they did not produce. The USJ - Liberty game surprised everyone I think. Fans expected to see Liberty blow USJ away and were totally surprised by the outcome. Plus, don't overlook my NS Indians too much this year, we might come back and bite you if you do.

  4. Haven't thought of the $$$ point of the situation. I just wish one system didn't have a ruling like this haanded down to them that puts them at a disadvantage from the other programs in the state. I realize that the heat is a problem, I have one that plays and I want him safe. But I also know that learning to deal with the heat during practice now is what gets him ready to deal with him on Friday nights.

Why are they canceling practice? It's gonna be hot on friday night too. I can understand the problem with overheating, but I mean you can always resolve that by giving more & more waterbreaks... Can't you?

Of course, now we have the disadvantage of other schools - being ready is going to be a challenge now. At least we don't play week 0 this year, but we have in the past.

  6. Wife's family lives in southern Indiana, and my mother-in-law said that the schools system there enacted a rule to where practice could not be after 10 am and not before 7 pm I believe.

I would go for that. Rumor is that the superintendent has been checking practice fields to make sure nobody is practicing when there is a heat advisory. I think this goes for all of our sports practing outside...I've heard some soccer people talking about their practices being cancelled too.

My daughter plays soccer and she was told that because there was a heat index warning in Jackson yesterday that no teams would be allowed to practice unless it was indoors per the superintendent. I`m assuming that was for football too.

Yes, that goes for football and it is going to cause lots of problems

  8. How much have been able to practice? Did their school board make that decision?

The decision was made on Thursday - It rained Friday and cooled things down enough to practice, but next weeks looks hot again. Superintendent made decision, as far as I know it was a ruling she made on her own. Everyone is wondering how much practice time we can get in now and if she will let us play jamboree on Friday

  9. The jamboree will be held at USJ this year. I dont know who is playing who though!

I believe the schedule is just about like it has been the past 3 years. I know that North Side plays Jackson Christian is the Jamboree. Liberty and South Side are in it also, but I do not know who they play

  10. Did Jackson Northside scrimmage tonight? If so, who, and how did they look?

North Side scrimmaged Bolton on Fri. afternoon and did pretty well. Some problems with young backs which were to be expected, but basically the varsity squads tied. NS's freshman squad did well. We are looking forward to a much better season this year.

  11. Hold up... Drew Hayes doesnt throw in the mid eighties.... He throws consistently in the low nineties and against tougher competition throws between 92-94... Control hasnt been a problem this year either...

I saw Drew Hayes pitch against Josh Parker last week - Parker got the win. Parker had control of all of his pitches, while Hayes control was good on his fastball, his other pitches were off. I know all pitchers had an off day - but this was a big win for North Side and Josh Parker

  12. Oh I agree Camden is always good. They kicked McKenzie's butt every time they played each other just about, even in years when McKenzie had the better team. I think they will always be a force because they have a good little league program, which all schools aren't lucky enough to have.

McKenzie took a blow this week, with West breaking an ankle while dancing. Hopefully she will be back early into the season, but you never know with ankles they are tricky.

Which West girl broke her ankle? One is a senior and the other a junior I believe. But both are strong and will come back. McKenzie should be great this year, but so should TCA.

  13. One of my students had to go to the Emergency Room a few years ago because some of that glitter got in her eye. The girl's game is too physical to allow something like that to be worn while out on the court. TSSAA has banned a lot more things with less harm than that. The girls are there to play ball, not look like Brittney Spears.

  14. They will see about 3 kids that can guard her in the first round...... :( If they get by A-E, then they will be bringing the gold ball home I believe.....

Hope you bring one back to West TN.....good luck :(

You put 3 girls on Delk, and Clift and Ivie will make you pay the price, plus Ross has a sweet outside shot. This is no one "man" team, it is the true package of teamwork. It is a joy to follow them.

  15. Hillcrest has a team like no other region 8 team has had in about 5 years. Your coaches know; they were scouting them a few days before the region semifinals :( . They are a very fundamentally sound team, something you don't see from Memphis schools all that often. It appears that their coach does things right. Add skill to the athleticism and you have a pretty spunky team. Given that they are on the opposite side of the bracket from Austin East, Hillcrest has a good shot at getting to the Championship game.

Hopefully a game between Jackson Northside and Hillcrest looms in the not-so-distant future.

Maybe at least one of these teams will bring back the gold.

Thank you. North Side didn't receive much respect going into the regionals, but it seems like we have made a believer out of some people now. I will say that OC was a very good team, hard to believe they lost 12? games.
