  1. I was there to watch the Single A game, but stayed for the first half of this game. What happened? Did Liberty just play awesome? Did Mitchell fall apart? Did someone big foul out?
  2. I am going to start out and say that there were a lot of good bball games played this week and congratulations to the UC Tornados. Now, I am going to apologize if I offended anyone this past week and I was wrong about several players that played this week. I know it is a little late and that several of you were dogging me pretty bad, and I will admit that I deserved it. I will give Grace Baptist a sperate apology; I completely underestimated your basketball team. You guys had a great game yesterday; Eldridge had an awesome game and excellent first half. The big kid also played a factor in the game even though he did not score that many points. Y'all played smart and shot extremely well...y'all flat out outplayed Humboldt. I am not going to sit here and make excuses, but that was not the same Humboldt team that played all year and beat Cosby Wed. night. I wish that we could have had a good game to see what both teams looked like while on top of their games. Hats off to the Golden Eagles. As for the championship game, I think Grace may have wasted a few too many shots on Humboldt and just could not hit much, compared to their game against Humboldt. Union City, you guys played good, but I had seen you play even better. You guys played the best today, but I would have loved to see a Round 5 for the state championship between Humboldt and UC. I think it would have been even better than the Regional Champ. matchup. As for my final thoughts, I am not being bitter because Humboldt did not make it to the championship or win it all. Hats off to UC and Grace. I am not hating on these other teams, but simply stating the obivious. The top bracket that UC was in seemed a little easy and had probably what would be considered the three lowest seeds there (Cloudland, Wayne Co., and Clay Co.). The other bracket defintielty seemed like there was more talented teams in it. I think the TSSAA should do something new in how the matchups are determined. This is just my idea, but they ought to consider ranking the teams 1-8, just to avoid having one bracket that is stacked and another that seemed less talented. Even in class AA, they had probably what were the best four teams playing each other in the first round in Haywood vs. Liberty and Mitchell vs. Bolivar. Just a thought. Congratulations to all teams and to the West for bring three gold balls back to the other side of the river.
  3. That's good that y'all dominate football, but no one really cares about football right now. That is why we are on the basketball forum.
  4. Confidence that we are going to win is pretty motivating. If you know that everyone is behind you and speaks highly of you, it ought to make you feel good about yourself; therefore, motivating them to play good.
  5. I am a retired alumni there player, and now I cover the sports.
  6. What up Pedro? I will def. have the gum with me tomorrow. Toylon has a good night every night, but my player to watch tomorrow is EJ Epperson; I expect him to play good becuase he will clean up whatever shots McMasters alters. I too think that Grace does not have enough fire power to stop all of our weapons. You have seen my prediction on here several times, 79-64 Humboldt. Oh yeah, good call on Syracuse going all the way to the champ. there Pedro. Good call.
  7. Oh how I love sarcasm... it is called confidence; we know the gold ball is coming back to Humboldt, but I will be humble and congratulate you on a great season.
  8. Humboldt will do what they do; it does not matter if the "air is taken out of the ball." Other teams have tried to do that and it blew up in their faces. We do not force shots; we can get any shot we want at any specific time even with a 6' 10'' guy in the middle. Humboldt lost to Lake Co. 3 times and UC 1 time.
  9. No there is only one high school in Humboldt; however, there are several school within 15-20 mins. that many Humboldt kids go to (Milan, Trenton, Bradford, Gibsoon Co., and USJ)
  10. Oh do not worry, it will be an all West Championship.
  11. Yes Lake Co. is not here; that is obvious. They were an excellent team that lost at the wrong time of the year. They would probably beat y'all easily. End of discussion.
  12. That is correct. His name is Jonathan Warrington and he too played for the Vikings. Graduated in '02.
  13. Just to further your knowledge, UC's Marquise Weddle (who should be Mr. Basketball) scored 46 on Humboldt in the Region Finals and lost. You do not have to stop the best player, but just stop everyone else. So, we may or may not stop Eldridge, but we will contain the rest of the team. That is why Humboldt will win, you cannot stop all of our weapons. Humboldt over Grace 79-64.
  14. Humboldt will continue to do the same thing that they have done all year; they will hit the boards strong and take it to the post whenever they want to. McMasters cannot guard all three of Humboldt's big guys, just one. If y'all want to slow down the game, go ahead; we have seen it all and can handle it all. We can play the half court offense just as good as getting out and running in transition. Just because you slow the pace will not result in a win. Humboldt over Grace 79-64.
  15. I do not want to hear you gripe about how if we would have played at "the infamous, overrated eagles' nest" that y'all would have pulled out a win. The best team won last night, plain and simple. We would have come into the "eagles' nest" and done the same thing. Just so you know, Humboldt plays better on the road than do at home; we only lost two true road games all season.... one to Union City who is still playing in the state tourney and the other to Lake Co. who is probably the most atheltic team in the entire state. End of discussion.
  16. Union City did not win first place yesterday after beating Cloudland by 37. Taking nothing away from Cloudland, they were just no match for UC. If anything, beating Cosby by 20 was more impressive than beating Cloudland like a red-headed step-child. Humboldt will beat Grace and will play UC for the golden ball. You cannot go ahead and say UC is the champs because they have lost to Humboldt three times. I do not want to hear any more excuses on who was suspended or who was hurt; Humboldt won three of four, plain and simple. It will be a really good game, and good luck to both teams. I am taking Humboldt by 7 for the golden ball.
  17. As for Classification of these teams. I didnt look up the enrollment numbers, but a friend of mine did and said Humboldts enrollment was like 500 or so on the TSSAA Web Site (Not sure if that was current?). But I noticed that the Humboldt brought a lot of fans. Humboldt is a pretty decent sized town, at least compared to Cosby. Humboldt has between 425-440 students and this is ACCURATE because my mother works for the Board of Education so she know our enrollment number. As for the size of Humboldt, there are approx. 10,000 people.
  18. Everyone also said not to play zone against Cosby, and you saw what happened to them. They will mix it up on the defensive end though. Good luck Humboldt, keep it up.
  19. Yeah it worked against Cosby, and that was their "star child" that only had 14.
  20. They just show a lot of emotion every game. And yes, we expect to see a diff. team Friday. Smith, Johnson, or a guy off the bench can guard Eldridge, but we might just play zone; you never know.
  21. I am not saying we played bad because we played a good game; I just think we could have done better. And 100% would be nice a game, but I think they are saving that showcase for Friday and Saturday.
  22. Defense and ball handling were both average. We have seen much better in both area. We know our team; do not sit here and say that we were great because we have seen better. There is always room for improvement.
  23. I agree with you DB3; I too was upset that y'alls star child gave the entire Humboldt student section the bird with both hands lifted high. And, another player that did not play shouted shut the F^^^ up also. It was a good game, and I am going to stick with my statement that the West is the best in the state.
