  1. Congrats to Adamsville on the win , and this is not intended to take away from that win, you have a much better team than Riverside . However ,I wonder how much longer the people of Decatur County are going to stand by, and allow a once proud baseball program , that could compete, and produce quality baseball players become what it is today.
  2. Okay, I may do that. Why the fuss over the private messages though? I've seen them all over these boards. Oh, and ripper Vickie is doing great. Still teaching school, and yes we're still in Birmingham. That's all I'll say in case I'm getting billed per word.
  3. I'd be careful using words like "mythical" and "fantasy land" if I wasn't sure who I was talking about. I played with this guy at South Alabama, it was no fantasy. I won't comment on any of his opinions about umps, but he could smash!! I could always get him on a good change though. ha, ha!!
  4. Covington is a very good AA team. Ripley is horrible!!! Covington would probably sweep a ten game series.
  5. How do you end up on your knees going after a fly ball in the outfield? If this is true, I'd quit if I was the runner that got thrown out. I'd take my chances trying to score on Andruw Jones if he was throwing from fairly deep centerfield on his knees.
  6. Sounds like Blue and Gold has issues. The first time I read his post, I was also surprised at the shots he took. Really though, pick an opinion to have and stay with it. From his earlier posts, it is clear that he is not really in USJ's corner. Everyone can see that. No need to rip a team in the preseason, if you're gonna come back and sing a different tune in the season. Even worse though, don't pretend to be a supporter and still try to discredit a player's accomplishments, especially over a kid's age!!!
  7. Should be close games tonight and Tuesday night. Who is throwing for both teams? Will the #1's be going tonight or Tuesday?
  8. Not Knocking USJ, but one game very rarely decides who is a better team. Also, USJ threw their #1, and SD threw their #2. Both teams hit the ball well. Gant handled SD pretty well except for one inning. A couple misplays in the outfield really hurt SD. I remember one really cheap hit down the line that scored two runs for SD as well though. Both USJ and SD are very good teams! The edge would probably go to SD offensively. I've not seen any other team hit like that all through the line-up. Defensively, they match up well. I would 've like to have seen ace vs. ace. That may have been a little more telling.
  9. Yeah, publicity helps a program big time!! If you guys keep beating up on those remaining single A Jackson schools, at least you'll get some publicity that way. If that is the mentality of people in your area, it's going to be a tough hurdle to overcome. Anyway, good luck to Riverside this year!!
  10. I agree with you that the talent is definitely there. That stinks about the political side of things. I guess that goes on everywhere though. One important issue you guys might adress is having a summer program in house. This might help out with losing players to teams they play for in the summer. Seriously, think how good you guys would be in single A with the kid that went to USJ. Isn't he from the Riverside area?
  11. Congrats to Garrett on that! He's a very good pitcher! I have one question. Why doesn't somebody promote baseball over there? If I was involved with the program, I would be tired of being a feeder for other programs in athletics!! Some really good talent over there, and others that should be there. Do you agree? What's the deal?
  12. Yeah, i remember Eric. He played at Jackson State and the Freed I think. Very good hitter, and he is also a student of the game. The shame is that he was not given the baseball job at RHS!!! Maybe he did not want to be a part of the revolving door policy on coaches at RHS. Some good talent in several boys and girls sports has been lost over there.
  13. That's funny about the Corvette!! I think he can throw harder than 78 though! Low 80's anyway. That's probably a little closer.
