  1. Well bob...we have a winner and it is Jackson Co.! Now tell them what they've won! Will it be Greenfield or Summertown? By the way, how have you been lately bob? Is your sister enjoying her time at TTU?
  2. Thanks for the backup gotmilk? You and I both know that Laken is a great asset to the team but she has to have help. Who will get her the ball inside? Who will set a screen for her if she is to pop out for a trey? Who can she depend on if she's being triple teamed as she usually is?
  3. This team has not got where they are by the contribution of just one player, the entire team has played well together all season. The way they played the other night against Temple in the sub-state is a great example of the team-play that has gotten them back to the state. THIS IS OUR TEAM...NO ONE PERSON CAN DO IT ALL! Whitney Jordan Rachel Painter Kelly Rich Caylie Dickens Ashton Gentry Tess Copas Laken Leonard Lindsey Hume Ciara Green Jaclyn Jordan Skylar Aguilar Katelyn Jenkins Coach Larry White Coach Ginger Finn Coach Christy Turner The parents, fans, and community all have played a role in getting Red Boiling Springs to where they have needed to be! I could not be more proud!
  4. Oh yes you know I will be there! I'll be the one wearing red! I would not miss this for the world. You know how excited I can get...I think my excitement level has went through the roof. I'm driving everyone crazy as I can't wait until Wednesday. I took this week off from work in anticipation of their appearance at the Murph. Where/What have you been up to these days, haven't seen you in a while?
  5. Hey there jamieroper...are your Richland girls going to come to our team camp at Red Boiling Springs again this summer? If you do, I look for it to be bigger and better than in years past. I think that when you manage to put yourself in a good position to be a state contender then better competition will come. I hope that is the case with the camp this year.
  6. We've made it...the State brackets are complete. Red Boiling Springs defeated Temple to make it to the State Tournament. They will face off in the quarterfinals against Forrest, who defeated Richland in their sectional. Though tournament time is a different story and anything can happen...their previous meeting went to the Lady Bulldogs by a score of 55-34 at the Eagleville Classic during the Christmas Holiday. It has been half a season ago and Red Boiling Springs was without one of their dominant players. However, March is a lot different than December. I hope to see a large fan base from both schools at the Murphy Center on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. The winner will play either Oliver Springs or Madison Academy Magnet on Friday at 12:30.
  7. That is what I meant by my post, earned respect! And I do hope you are right about the support of everyone in the district. I think that it would be great if either or both of these teams make it to Murfreesboro that fans and players from the different district teams would come down and help cheer us on. It is tough to gather large crowds for the daytime games at the tournament because people have to work! Luckily enough, I have built up vacation time and have taken it hoping that I can see our girls in the tournament. If we make it, I hope to see many of you there. People from Jackson Co., Clarkrange, Clay County, Pickett Co., they all know what it's like and have experienced this many times before. It hasn't happened much for us in RBS. No state tournament since 1988 where we were ousted in the quarterfinals and no sub-state since 2000. We don't have any hardware to enjoy! We've got a lot to work toward, and when it is all said and done we hope to have earned respect across the state. I am both excited and proud of these girls for what they are doing for the team, the school, and the community.
  8. Hate us or love us we do not really care, but we will make you respect us.
  9. Who all will be making the trip to Murfreesboro IF RBS can pull out a win on Saturday?
  10. I would say that if the Lady Dawgs take care of business Saturday night then the City of Red Boiling Springs will shut down on Wednesday! I bet Coach White has already been clearing some room in that trophy case!
  11. I don't think it will be another overtime situation tonight. I will venture to say that the team that wins will win in regulation and by a 4-8 point margin. We've got the chance of seeing these two teams play for a 5th time folks...how many times does that happen? If you ask me, that makes one just as good as the other! If they have the perseverence and work ethic to make it through the postseason and play in the ultimate game, the state championship, then I think they both should be respected greatly no matter who comes out on top! GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS...but I have to say it, GO LADY DAWGS!
  12. I've got a pretty good idea of these figures, though if I am wrong please correct me. I think they have only been to the state tournament one time in 1987-1988 season. I think Larry White has been there for 28 years. The only sub-state seasons that come to mind are 87-88 and 99-00. I used to know all exactly, but it seems I have forgotten.
  13. Hey muffin...you're going to have to keep me updated during the game tonight. I just got over the flu and had to come back to Murfreesboro yesterday. We can't even get the radio station down here. That stinks.
  14. My aunt played on that RBS team, as a matter of fact, she was a Senior. I definitely remember the story behind that year. I'm sure I was there, but I didn't keep up with much of the basketball when I was that age, I was trying to watch the little cuties that were at the games! I can't wait for the outcome of tonight's game...I want to be watching a game Saturday night!
  15. First of all...Red Boiling Springs has a game to play tonight before we get on the Clay County subject.
  16. 58-29 Clay County seems as if they are peaking at a good time.
  17. I'm going to guard it well...I can keep an easy eye on it because it's right across from my house!
  18. The Lady Bulldogs only have one senior, she is in the 1,000 point club and has height and leadership. She will be missed. But we have three good Juniors and some good Sophomores as well as Freshmen...not to mention an 8th Grader! The talent stretches down into the 6th Grade in Red Boiling Springs. There must be something in the water! Oh no!!! They're selling our water everywhere now...not good!!! But I have no worries, we are here to stay for several years.
  19. I believe everyone from the east side of Macon County will agree with the fact that we DO BELIEVE great things can happen with this basketball team. It's going to be a battle until the end as these girls have never played through this type of hype before. If they just stay calm, take it one at a time, stick together as a whole, and keep the community support behind them then great things are going to happen. For example, take a look at their side of the region bracket. It's a different world from hoping you have a chance, believing you have a chance, and knowing you have a chance. And with each step of this tournament, these girls are learning more and more that will help them now AND in the future. However, while keeping a positive mindset, don't become too arrogant. People who were around in the late 80's when the RBS girls were state-bound can tell you as well to not guarantee a win until the final buzzer. There was one particular player who led the team in three point field goals as she was heavily relied upon. But late in the post-season, she injured her knee and the air was let out of their season. There is nothing wrong with believing...because I BELIEVE IN THESE GIRLS 110%! But the higher you build yourself up, if something bad occurs, you are building yourself up for one very hard fall.
  20. There are several counties in the Upper Cumberland area where there are more than one high school. Macon County - Macon County H.S.(AA) and Red Boiling Springs H.S.(A) Clay County - Clay County H.S.(A) and Hermitage Springs H.S.(A) Smith County - Smith County H.S.(AA) and Gordonsville H.S.(A) The rivalries within Macon County and Clay County are long-standing basketball rivalries. In Smith County, both basketball and football are huge.
  21. I believe that SulphurCityQueen had amnesia from around February 2003 until March 2004 because I think she is failing to remember what happened to the boys teams those years. Especially the 02-03 Bulldogs...had a marvelous regular season especially in the district, and then they swept their way right to the District Championship. Everyone, myself included, never thought about being beat in the semifinals of the region...just one game short...of making it to the sub-state. Clay County beat us that year and then in 2004 it happened again. Again, a good regular season and district tournament, then upsetting the #1 team in the state Gordonsville. Boys had high hopes and didn't think they could fall to defeat again by the Clay County Bulldogs but it did happen. Moral of the story, do the walking before the talking.
  22. That is so true. I would absolutely love to see them go at it again in the finals of the Region. It could be a repeat of what happened tonight as they would be battling hard for home-court in the sub-state. But that is two games away...we've got to worry about them first.
  23. Thanks LBJames for the insight...you just can't get the full effect of the game on the radio. I like listening to Ronnie and Teresa because they can be quite funny, but you just don't have the basketball expertise there. Hopefully I will be able to make it to a game within the next week or so. By the way, when someone gets the All Tournament list in please let me know.
  24. It is unfortunate that I have been down with the flu, however, I was fortunate to have been in Macon County to be able to listen to this basketball game on the radio. I spend my weeks in Murfreesboro working and in college and you can't pick up WLCT down there at all. Glad I was at home recuperating, got to hear an excellent game. From the sounds of the radio, the low scoring was contributed by not many fouls being called and tough defense by both squads. Both teams battled it out but when they got into the second and third OT's, they became very fatigued. I think fatigue was one reason Coach Brown was trying to stall the basketball along with trying to slow down RBS's fast-paced game in the OT's. The Ross girl who had 23 points played outstanding. I think she scored 11 of their first 14 points. And you have got to give credit to the eighth grader, Laken, who scored 20 tonight. Her scoring for the tournament was 18-18-20. Not bad at all! As far as the region goes, the second place team fares better when you look forward to making it to the sub-state. If I am not mistaken, Jackson Co. now has Trousdale Co. in the first round and the winner will face the winner of Clarkrange/Westmoreland. Red Boiling Springs will face Watertown, with the winner taking on Clay County/Gordonsville. I would like to see Jackson Co. and Red Boiling Springs battle it out again in the region finals to see who plays sub-state at home! But let's take it one game at a time and beat Watertown! Good luck to all of 7A!
