  1. Quote......."Get real..! Union City had a great game last night..Yes..they've beaten a lot of poor soulds by 40 points..Whitby doesn't run up the score on teams and I woulsd imagine Humboldt could have beaten a few teams prettyu bad as well ..but it's call class..! " Are you saying that UC runs the score up on people???? How else are the FOUR FRESHMAN and 1 SOPHMORE on the floor supposed to play?? Don't shoot? Give opponents the ball?? come on....
  2. QUOTE(3153 @ Feb 18 2007 - 01:16 PM) If they played in AA then they would have to play teams like White House. What was that score again? 102-76 Union City winning? Right BenStiller23? I would though love to see a UC/Liberty Game. I believe that Liberty would win, but would like to see the match-up. Hopefully both schools can get together and schedule this for future years. At least it would be good practice that would sell alot of tickets. Let's face it. Both teams have talent and will have it for some time to come. They are 1 hour apart and prob have two of the top teams in the state. Maybe the coaches could get together for a scrimage during the tournaments in the "Boro". Now were talking!!!

  4. Interesting stuff backinthaoc. My observations on the Humboldt/Lake Co. game. It appears that Lake Co. has the better team. Honestly though, I feel that the game was sluggish. The players seemed sluggish. There was plenty of height on both teams, but watching them play, height was not a factor at all. Humboldt's height you would think would be a factor, but rarely did I see them get aggressive like they should under the goal considering there size. Granted, I only watched the first quarter, but after the UC game in which bodies were flying all over the place, it seemed that both teams were lacking talent comparing to UC. I feel that UC's fourth or fifth best man would be a star on both of these teams. My reasoning to this is watching individual performances while moving up the court. Most of the time, no matter who had the ball every player struggled when trapped or pressured. UC on the other hand, seems to have much more talent individually that it seems that nothing would bother them. Numerous times, whether it be a first, second or third string player, when there was a play to be made, a UC player stepped up and made an awesome pass, dribbled thru a press, or made the right shot or decision that needed to be made. Lake Co. does indeed have a great team and can give UC fits for segments of a game. I feel that it is just that tough, just segments not for four quarters. Regardless looking forward to the game on Tue. Does anyone know what time is tip-off?
  5. Don't know the exact stats on the threes. It did seem that the game was sloppy in the first half as the refs called it really tight. UC could never get into there game. They were indeed up by 20 at the half, but it was sloppy with a TON of fouls on both teams.
  6. This marks the 8th game this season that UC has scored over 100. After 31 games, they are now averaging over 92pts per game. The thing that makes them so tough, is anybody on the team can flat out shoot. From opening tip till the game is over, it is absolute kaos. Full court defensive pressure with mutiple traps. The reason they are averaging so many pts. is because most teams are not able to get the ball past half court on them. They play 5 guy's for about 2 minutes, then a fresh 5 comes in. This goes on for the whole game, unless there is a big lead like most nights and tonight. There second five is just as talented as the starting five. Third group of five is right there also. Very, very talented group of players that are extremely well coached.
  7. Had 97 at the end of three. Refs called it really tight the first half. It seemed like it would never get over. UC will be tough to beat if they keep playing this way. They were really impressive to watch. The last shot of the game by a UC reserve was a "jumper" from beyond half court, which hit nothing but nylon. Final score 130-93.
  8. Defense is the reason UC scores so many points. Everyone can keep thinking UC is an offense only team. The #1 reason they have won four state titles is defense period. Three were under defense guru Marty Sisco (which became known for his defensive pressure, and another under his son Shane. Now with Marty as an assistant, I don't see how anyone can look at a Union City team (whether they have seen them or not) and think that they are not a defensive team.
  9. With the win tonight, UC is now averaging 91.3 pts/game. Impressive stat considering the schedule they play and district they play in. Will indeed be a great evening of b-ball at Dresden. The LC-Humboldt match-up should be a good one.
  10. Union City won tonight against Greenfield 102-69. Next game will be against the winner of Trenton-Bradford.
  11. Marty has had hip problems and actually just wanted to retire from head coaching duties after his third state title. His son Shane became head coach at UC a couple years later. When Shane was back at head coach, Marty started filling in voluntary as an assistant just for the love of the game. I will say that he is a heck of a coach and for b-ball fans that followed AA ball in the 90s they can vouch for this.
  12. Grace might indeed have a good coach, but tomorrow do me a favor. Look closely at the man sitting beside the UC head coach on the bench as an assistant. Be sure to take a hard look at his right hand and the big fat State Championship ring he won while coaching UC in 97. He is Marty Sisco, the father of head coach Shane Sisco, who retired shortly after his third state championship. You might would see him wear more, but the other two he won (also in the 90's) would make his hand too heavy. So not so fast about UC's coaching as most knowledgable b-ball fans will tell you that this is probably UC's most secret weapon that no-one has talked about. During his tenure he took the golden tornado's to three state titles is AA and five state tournament appearances.
