  1. Once again, Portland exploded in overtime to pull off the win in one heck of a district championship. White House would have won a game of "Posts" in the first ten minutes of the game, as they hit crossbar, left, and right posts. Pressure was fairly equal in the first half, though WH did have the more exciting chances. The second half was a reversal of the first, as Portland had the more exciting opportunities, but failed to capitalize. Overtime saw Potland's strikers work 3 beautiful balls to each other that resulted in 3 goals, and WH finished the scoring wih about a minute left. I thought the small field would be an advantage for WH and it most certainly was. They were able to sneak the ball in behind the Portland backs and had plenty of good opportunities. Overall, I think WH showed drastic improvement over the course of the tournament and would say they are a definite contender to make it to the region championship. portland simply had too many weapons and eventually pulled it out. Region 4 Tournament: DeKalb Co. at Portland White House at Livingston Academy Predictions to come...
  2. That was definitely a factor in the game and I was hoping that it wasn't that serious and am sorry that it was. You definitely could tell that your playmaking ability was missed up top and that, without you in the game, SC was not the same team. Best wishes on a speedy recovery.
  3. Here is your game breakdown: Portland 4, Friendship 1 What is not shown is the fact that this game went to OVERTIME! FCS played a very good game for the first 80 minutes, taking it right at Portland for a couple stretches. 1-1 at the end of regulation (both goals came early in the first half) before Portland scored 3 overtime goals within the first 8 minutes. Game nearly turned ugly as two FCS players received red cards after the final goal, as the keeper was frustrated and attempted to kick the Portland player who scored the final goal while the other was a soft red. Game was very good and was won in the first 8 minutes of overtime. Portland was clearly the better team, but the score does not give enough credit to how well FCS played. White House 2, Station Camp 0 WH played a very impressive game and won this game by absolutely dominating play in the midfield. They stepped through every 50/50 ball and took it straight at SC for a majority of the match. SC looked like they might be prepared to run away with the game early in the first as two free kicks hit posts and most of play was in the WH defensive third. 0-0 at halftime. WH scored early in the second when the initial shot was stopped by SC, only to go to another WH player across the box who found the net. WH midfield domination ensued and SC was never able to amount an attack, though they did continue to apply some offensive pressure, but only had one shot that was a real threat. Last goal came on a breakaway with about 30 seconds left. WH won this game with hard work and deserve all the credit for taking it to the top seed in this tournament. Now let's do the prediction for tomorrow night's district final between Portland and White House. WH will not be able to dominate the midfield with the ease they did against SC, but their pressure will create some turnovers that will lead to offensive opportunities. Portland's defense has been suspect the last couple weeks, but I think they are good enough to thwart WH chances. Portland's speed and skill will be the difference, and WH will put up a valiant effort, but the end result: Portland 3, White House 1.
  4. I do not have the list, but I know a couple. MVP of the district - Anthony Groft, Portland Offensive MVP - Striker from Station Camp Goalkeeper MVP - Tie between SC and Macon Co. Golden Boot (Most district goals) - Elias Groft, Portland Portland's two center mids and left back also got spots on the team. The rest is not on me now, but perhaps someone else can be of help
  5. I graduated All-State (goalkeeper) from Portland in 2001 and went on to play at Belmont University . I help out with Portland as an assistant. I'm the tall one, difficult to miss
  6. I was at this game and Hendersonville ate Lavergne alive. Lavergne had one shot on goal, a direct kick with 3 minutes left that deflected off the wall and went in. H'ville seems to be flexing their muscle at the right time. They will play Gallatin, who knocked off Beech 3-1, Thursday at 7.
  7. 3 of those teams are in different districts, 2 are in different classifications, and none of them (except Heritage) are in district 10
  8. Both games postponed due to weather. Rescheduled for Thursday at 5 and 7. Championship game moved to Friday at 7.
  9. anyone know anything about FCS-MJCA?
  10. I will give you credit for Station Camp's speed, but the speed on their left )Portland's right) will be a wash. Portland's right mid is faster than anyone I have seen on any of the other teams. He is small, but lightning quick. Station Camp's speed through the middle will be their big advantage, though playing on a football field will close a majority of the gaps for them to run through. Portland 3, Greenbrier 0
  11. 1st Round: Station Camp 4, Merrol Hyde 0 FCS 3, MJCA 1 Portland 5, Greenbrier 1 White House 7, Macon Co. 0 Semifinals: Station Camp 3, White House 1 Portland 3, FCS 0 Finals: Portland 2, Station Camp 1 I will say that playing on the MJCA football field will definitely be an advantage for SC should they play Portland in the finals, since they play a more direct style while Portland likes to possess the ball down the sidelines. Should be a good tourney and it is by no means a lock for any team. Good luck to all.
  12. Good luck WH. A Portland-WH district final is always a beautiful thing. And Svebakken, believe me, Portland is not overlooking Friendship. But I think even FCS knows they got lucky to come away with a win that game. I'm sure they are much improved though and it should be a good game. But Portland uses the motivation to knock them off 3-0.
  13. I know it is a long shot, but I tried to make it clear that I think they will go ONLY IF they win their region and get to host the sectional. I do not see them making it if they have to travel to Chattanooga to pull off the upset. This is by far the best team Portland has ever produced; they have skill, speed, and great senior leadership that will make them dangerous. It will be difficult for them to knock off one of those Chatt. teams, but if they host, their chances are drastically improved.
  14. Portland should get through Friendship, and Station Camp should get by White House, setting up what I think will be one of the better district championships in A/AA. And that game could go either way. I will say Portland 2-1.
  15. I am curious as to who you think will stop them? Station Camp has the only real chance, and that game could go either way. Livingston is the only other team that will challenge for region, but since I have not seen them play, I am going to predict based on their most recent commone opponent - Wilson Central, who beat LA 3-0, but tied Portland 1-1 thanks to big saves by their keeper. It's easy to make empty comments... give some depth that validates a comment like that. I am quite interested in your thoughts.
  16. That is correct. Station Camp, Friendship, Portland, and White House will all host. As for who they will host, I am not sure.
  17. Of those big 4 in A/AA, I am going to predict (maybe its more of a hope than a prediction) that one of them does not get to state. I think you will see Portland surprise either Notre Dame or Chattanooga Christian in the sectionals, should Portland win their region, which they should. From what I have seen on the season and the different teams I have seen play, Portland is the best team in the state that no one knows about. If they get the sectional at home, I think they move on to the state and leave one of the big dogs at home.
  18. Portland 2, White House 0 Portland controlled the game nearly the entire way, dominating possession and 50/50 balls. White House did not have a shot on goal, though they did have several good shots that went off frame. Portland had 8 shots on goal and the WH keeper made a couple solid saves. It was a good physical game (the officiating was obviously not used to calling games of the physical nature and was subpar at best, but that did not affect the outcome of the game at all).
  19. Looking forward to the game tomorrow. SHould be a heated battle. White House is playing to avoid Station Camp in the semis, while Portland wants to have the opportunity to get revenge on FCS. Big post season implications in this game.
  20. Station Camp's goalkeeper will probably get a spot. One of the mids in the middle (though he tends to float to the right) was solid and a good tempo controller. And there striker that sits up top will probably get a spot, not the greatest player but always in the right spot. For Friendship, from what I have seen, I don't think they get a striker on the team, but they have two mids that are probably their most dangerous players. I think the sweeper has a shot as well, being that they are usually outmanned in games, yet still find a way to keep the opponent from scoring. I apologize for not having names or numbers, but I have only seen Friendship once (a long time ago) and Station Camp has had different players play well the times that I saw them. What about you FCS, what are your thoughts on your team's district nods (your knowledge of the names would be more helpful). And timbdp needs to read this and put his two cents in on WH. The one kid from Greenbrier (basically the only go-to player on that team) and the keeper from Merrol Hyde I think get on as well.
  21. Portland - got to go with Elias Groft (sophomore striker with 20+ goals this year), Anthony Groft (senior stopper who is the most solid player on the team and best leader), and Jacob Suttle (senior left back who shuts down his side of the field)... a few others that deserve some mention, but those three I think are the keys to this teams success
  22. I think if Portland beats White House, then Friendship has to win against MJCA, as a tie or a loss would give them fewer wins than Portland, thus giving Portland 2nd, and FCS 3rd. I expect that FCS will win, however, so it's not like I'm making a prediction, just stating the possibility. On the other hand, if WH beats Portland, the WH and FCS are tied in second. What are the tie break scenarios, since these two teams tied earlier in the year?
  23. As far as opinions on who will be left standing at the end of districts, I do not know enough about District 7 to comment, but as for District 8, I think you will see Portland and Station Camp at the end of the day. Big game tomorrow between Portland and White House, a game where the better team does not always win (District finals a couple years ago, WH outshoots Portland 14-2, loses 2-1). I think Portland is the better team this year and should get the win, but who knows. If Portland wins, that puts Station Camp vs. White House in tournament semis, and SC should win in similar fashion to their earlier win over WH. Portland would face Friendship, and believe me... Portland has not forgotten this loss earlier in the season and it would not surprise me if they came out and won handily. Portland vs. Station Camp... toss up, a game that will probably be won on a lucky bounce or two.
