I agree with 9 hole. The district championship was not taken away. Game was tied at that point. They only missed out on the opportunity to go another overtime. Of course, after tonight, Gallatin is probably wishing they had Northeast instead, as they lost to Dickson Co. tonight.

I, too, have seen the actual game film. And what you are saying is the buzzer went off before the shot, and you heard it. THEREFORE, it sounds to me like you're saying the officials should have HEARD the buzzer go off. I know basketball, and in high school basketball, the buzzer is much more important than in college and beyond. We don't have the red light or video replay. Also, I'm fairly certain all the things you seem to think I overlooked, I mentioned in previous posts, such as one of the officials having an eye on the clock. My point has never been that the call was right or that the referees handled it correctly. My point has been that this is not as simple as everybody says it is.

Well the horn would matter to officials, as it is tough to expect them to glance back and forth from the game to the clock (which is quite high in that gym). That happens and you open up the risk of a foul on the final shot, and the ref missing it... because he was looking at the clock. Never said it wasn't a bad call. In fact, I've even said it was. I just don't think it's as simple as everybody is making it out to be.

I am not even convinced the buzzer sounded at the right time. If the buzzer stuttered (something that almost never happens), then I think it's logical to think that the buzzer did not sound correctly (something that almost never happens). I believe there was even a small issue during the consolation game before this game where the buzzer did not properly go off at the end of the first quarter (I believe). If the horn did sound at the proper time, then the shot is definitely off in time. (But again, I'm not sure that happened)

What TSSAA is being asked to consider and what they are actually considering are two different things (and video confirms there was no traveling violation on the play). Gallatin is the district champion and #1 seed, Wilson Central is the district runner-up and will be the #2 seed. Good luck to both in the tournament.

I just want to know how long people think the officials should have conferred about the basket before leaving, without the use of any type of technology to determine the timing of the shot. The officials DID run together underneath the basket where the shot was made, but at that point the question is pretty simple, "Did you hear the buzzer?" No. "Did you?" No. "You?" No. The discussion may have been brief, if not extremely brief, but what other things are they supposed to discuss at that point? I do not believe they made the right call, but I also don't think it was what they did after the buzzer that was the problem. During the timeout prior to the final play, there should have been a more efficient discussion as to how they were going to handle the end of game situation in a gym that was obviously loud and tense. They should have been better prepared to handle it, and again, I believe they made the wrong call, but I do not believe under any circumstance did they simply make the call because they were scared. After they made the call, yes, they ran out quickly (They were being chased!), but officials generally scoot out pretty quickly after most games, they just usually aren't looked for as fervently. Also, I want to remind people that Wilson Central wasn't cheated out of the district title. What I believe to be a bad call prevented the game from going to a third overtime, but changing the call does not guarantee that WC would have won (especially with Oldham fouled out). I do not know whether the outcome would have been different, but the game should have gone to a third overtime, but people tend to forget that WC was not ahead when that call was made. Poor call to end a great game and a great district tournament.

Can I ask how Gallatin cheated? And how do they find ways around hard work? And what does the presentation of the plaque have to do with whether they won or not? I think you would find that a lot of people on both sides do not believe the shot was off in time, and I happen to be one of them, but I do not see how a possible poor call by a group of officials turns into cheating by Gallatin. And I also believe that both teams work harder than most teams in the district, which is why they both finished as the top two seeds and then played in the championship game in a league in which the top six teams all had similar talent.

It isn't a violation of rules. They have to send a letter to the TSSAA verifying that the players on the team will not receive any instruction during this time. Happens all the time.

A couple holes in your theory.... If Wilson Central shoots the ball well they are tough? From my estimation, that is true of pretty much every team. Clarksville will have the best shooter on the floor in Chandler Cooper. She is lights out from any depth. You mention the length of Wilson Central... but have you seen the length of Clarksville??? Graves is nearly 6'4" and they start another 6-footer. Two of the starting guards I know are 5'9" or 5'10". If you go to their bench, they pull in another girl who is at least 6'2"... and these are not slow, unathletic posts. These are long-armed, shot-changing girls. I agree Coach Brandon will probably do a heck of a job getting these girls prepared, but I think Clarksville has too many weapons for them to pull the upset. I will be rooting 9AAA, but this game is definitely the long shot of the Region 5 games.

I don't call running up the score only putting up 29 points in a second half when you are more than capable of scoring near 50. Especially when you start to dig into your bench, you can't tell those kids to not shoot. The other team's inability to score does not classify as running up the score in my book. If they pressed in the second half then that is unfortunate, but MJ beat my team by 41 and 37, and at no point did I feel like they were running it up. Between 60 and 70 is an average scoring night for them, so no, I don't call that running up the score.

My team has been on the end of one of those Mt. Juliet beatings. They play the first half the way they want to play, regardless of the score, and that is the correct thing to do in my opinion. The second half usually finds Mt. Juliet playing a 2-3 zone, though it is still a decent zone. Portland is not a good shooting team, and if they were having an off night, it does not surprise me that they were not able to score. I will speak for MJ and say they do not run up the score... they simply play the game. I would bet there was no press at all in the second half, and that the bench got a lot of playing time after half. Some people may not like Fryer, but he is very classy when it comes to his game management against vastly inferior teams, and that is something I respect.

Faith Williams of Gallatin High School dropped 29 last week against Rossview. She is a freak athlete, and if she could learn how to be a basketball player she would probably average 29 a night.

I'm fairly certain what you are describing there is illegal. Players do not get to choose which school they go to, and Gallatin is no longer signing out-of-zones... so Gallatin's talent is going to stay right where it should.

Mt. Juliet appears to be a very well-oiled machine this year and should be the favorite. I'm curious about the rest of the district, where quite a few teams will be adjusting to losing their studs from a year ago. How will Station Camp and Portland do in AAA ball? Will Gallatin recover and will Hendersonville finally get over the hump? Outside of MJ, there appear to be more questions than answers in this district.

The 50% rule is only in effect during the school year prior to the season, which for basketball is the fall. The time following the season and the summer is fair game for AAU as long as they are coached by someone that is not a coach at their school.

Hopefully, the right D1 coach will get a hold of her and she will take advantage. And picturing Shaq as a mean, physical 3 man may have just brightened my day. Love it.

The only problem with this is that Ferriss is not 6'... she is 6'8"... and those are 8 huge inches. If Shaq were 8 inches shorter, he never would have made the NBA and been a superstar... but he is not 8 inches shorter. Being in the 3 spot may be high, especially with some of the next few behind her, but 6'8" is enough to dominate, and rightly so she is considered one of the top post players in the state.

There are better players, for sure. But scouts everywhere are saying Jenkins is arguably the best shooter in this senior class. Just seems odd that the "best" shooter and nation's leading scorer would be left off. I can't argue too much because I obviously have not seen all the other kids who are on the list, but I guess I am just more surprised that someone with his stat line could be omitted. But I guess, regardless of all this, Jenkins has seemed to always fly below the national radar. It wasn't even until this summer that Jenkins broke into the Top 100 senior lists for most major recruiting sources after he torched all of the top guys at the NBA camp. "When I die, I would rather people walk by my grave and ask why there is no monument, than to walk past a monument in my honor and ask, "Why?" John Jenkins decorates scoreboards, not wall space. (I give myself two bonus points for my attempt at seeming poetic.)

Careful not to assume that any of the others are not good students. Jenkins has signed to play at Vanderbilt, something that would seem foolish for someone who is not strong in their studies. Barring a felony conviction of some sort, Jenkins has Mr. Basketball wrapped up.

Just looked at the lists... John Jenkins is not a McDonald's All American... unless I read something wrong. Hard to believe if he really is the leading scorer in the nation with a shot like his he could be left off.

As I said somewhere earlier in this thread. John Jenkins is shooting right around 60%. That, my friend, no matter how you want to hate on the kid, is unbelievable. This is not some ball hog running around, jacking up random shots. If you double team him, he plays for the offensive rebound and the fast break. If you run extra defenders at him, he beats you with his lighting quick and awkwardly high release. He is very smart and plays within what the defense is giving. I wish him well, and it is sad to think the John Jenkins High School Experience is coming to close.
