  1. Swafford has a thigh bruise and will be ready to go. Linebacker #21 Sam Taylor I hear is out for the year. He limped off so I assume its a knee. Other than that I don't know. I just watched maryville vs bearden from week #6 and bearden looked to be the better team but like all the rest they lost. ROLL TRIBE

I hate that for 21 he is a good player. DB's depth is razor thin. I was surprised how many kids play both ways.

  2. I have seen both teams play this year. OR doesn't have a lot of depth but is very athletic and hard nosed. SH is bigger and stronger and can hurt OR with the vertical passing game which is what Maryville did to OR. They really bite on play action passing which SH doesn't do a lot of so I hope they watch that tape. OR has similar athletes to DB and runs a spread type offense.

  3. I recorded the game so i want to watch the replay before i comment on SR. After the pass interference call in the Maryville game a few years back though, i doubt there is any call he could make to be worse than that...even the extra point! Lol - It just seems like he needs to be seen so bad instead of just calling a good clean game...guess he just likes attention.

He deserves as much friendly harassment as possible from the community and I mean it in jest, but come on, it is pathetic absolutely embarrassing! Does anyone grade him when he calls against his alma mater??? The funny thing is the CAK fans have no idea the irony of this long term adverse bias from one of our owncool.png

  4. The refs were terrible. The blown PAT call was the worst ever. The guy on Alcoa's sideline had no clue. The 1st interference call that he made 4 seconds after the play had ended was comical. The 2nd interference call was legit. The Alcoa DB held both of the receivers arms down. Both teams got huge breaks with the hard count. The onside kick was a great call by CAK. I thought at the time it may have won them the game but Alcoa's defense held. CAK had 8 or 9 sries with the ball tonight and got 4 scores. 1 of those scores was thanks to the bogus interference call on the initial 3rd down play. Alcoa's defense made High get off of his point in the pocket in the 2nd half. That's why he compelted just 50% of his passes in the 2nd half. Even Charlie High can be rattled by pressure. The risk that Alcoa took to start bringing extra defenders paid off and was the difference in the game in my opinion.

Very good summary imho thanks. Didn't realize the 4 out 8 series stat for CAK. Gosh it seemed like they had 500 yards in O.

  5. Tadvols,

Cant argue with ya on the refs...seems like they just want to be apart of the game. That wasnt very good either way! Good luck to you and your falcons the rest of the way.

Hopefully there will be Knoxville area refs at the next game. SR should be ashamed of himself......it is so, so obvious. Great game and I honestly don't see either team as the favorite in three weeks other than Alcoa has the home field but that's it....very evenly matched. Each team's strengths are offset by their own weaknesses which happen to be the other team's strength.

  6. You guys might want to put up another section of mini-me bleachers, that's for sure...and you may be right about the score. But I think we can agree that football is more exciting (at least as far as East TN is concerned) when Science Hill is relevant. Just think of those electric atmospheres during basketball season at both schools even when SH was the obvious favorite.

Just to clear up the playoff implications, which I know we're all concerned about:

DB win = No. 2 seed in quad 1 (Maryville has the edge in the next two playoff standings criteria, so they'll be No. 1 unless they lose to Lenoir City (8-1) this week which, yeah, ain't happening)

SH win = No. 1 seed in quad 1 (SH has the edge on Maryville in those same criteria)

***shouldn't really say "edge", but rather the system favors one over the other...

If SH loses, they'll probably end up with the No. 6 seed. (Not sure about DB, but I'd imagine it would be something similar). In that case SH would probably travel to Oak Ridge. Such a scenario would also set up a potential rematch between SH and DB in Round 2 of the playoffs (oh, goodie...)

This game won't be close. SH is very weak on defense and has progressively gotten worse as the season has worn on. They leave way too many open lanes on the perimeter which is an absolute nightmare against DB's speed. If your prediction on a 6 seed is correct, their season will end in the K'ville area. Honestly I'm not sure they would be a top 5 team out of that district. SH has got to start scheduling teams out of the area in addition to developing more kids instead of leaving starters in and scoring with seconds on the clock. Last night was very troubling and I believe they will finish the year with back to back losses. A lot of SH's yards come on big plays because of number 11's feet and arm but that won't work against top 6A defenses like it does against the local talent level which is way, way down. Hard nosed teams advance in 6A playoffs and I think DB may have a decent chance to make some noise this year. I hope it is a good game this Friday but I just don't see it.

  7. They are tough and mean.

PS: I liked the white britches against Kingston. Didn't they used to wear silver/grey britches back in the day. That all maroon is tough to look at for a whole game.

Yes, in fact AHS wore white jerseys at homein the late 70's and sometimes in the early 80's much like some NFL teams. Coach Dalton changed that beginning in 82.

  8. found out today that the alcoa v greeneville series probably will not be continued.....heard that security had to step in and basically stop an alcoa fan who evidentally grabbed one of our players as they went to thelocker room at halftime and said to him " how'd you like that B***H"? also heard that alot of greeneville folks were treated horribly by the alcoa faithful....personally, i was treated with nothing but respect by every alcoa person i encounered....i was even escorted to the alcoa alumni dinner to get some sweets when i had a diabetic episode...im not revealing where i heard this, or which player was grabbed, because that's irrelevant, i just hope that somehow, someway, this series can continue. i think both programs benefit from it, HOWEVER, if this stuff is what's happening, no matter where it's happening, i cant blame them for not continueing the series. i just thought there was a level of respect between the two programs that transcended this sort of crap...i guess every school has its share of buttholes, even ours. anyway, i had several people ask me at the game if the series would be continued after this year and I didnt have an answer, and STILL may not have the correct one here, im just passing along something I heard.....

I hope that's not true!!!! If so, it is disgusting and shameful.

  9. Thanks for sharing the link to the game. Look more explosive with Foreman at QB as he has the ball in his hands more. You will present a problem for anyone you play in the playoffs and if you stay healthy who knows. The biggest negative to playing against Maryville is depth. No one goes both ways for them but who know in the playoffs. If you could get them up here anything could happen. Graham does a good job with this offense and the kids seem to respond. You can really get "outflanked" in a hurry if you are an opposing defensive squad. I don't think SH will have what it takes in 6 weeks so you will enter the playoffs 10-0 once again.

  10. Westside was a recruiting machine. I played all 4 years there for Ron Lingenfelter and Jimmy Foxx.

9-12 year olds running a pretty complex wing-T offense with motion and everything. was a lot of fun.

There were kids from Alnwick (most), Bungalow, Maryville (a lot), Greenback and even a few from Alcoa after the practice field got moved from Bungalow to Pole Climbers.

We were in the Aluminum Bowl about every year. These were the years that everyone was chasing WIllie Lundy around...We had to chase him until we were 18. That's a long time to chase one guy, and he rarely got caught.

  11. Countryreb,

There was some smack being talked out at alcoa high last night regarding the upcoming middle school game. Let's just say the team from montvale station road might as well forfeit. I had no idea alcoa was that loaded. Where did all those studs come from? I don't remember them being that good in the youth leagues. Maybe it's like murvil where the kids start to excel once they get some real coaching and not daddy-ball. I heard they have 2 kids from out west (maybe Montana) and a new pipeline opened up from atlanta with a kid or two. Maybe you should hope for rain. Nope, that won't work with the new turf. Maybe mid-term grades will come out at alcoa today! It sounded like murvil was gonna need a miracle to keep it close. rolleyes.gif

Whatever happened to the Westside Raiders???? That was a true dynasty many moons ago. Had kids from every corner of the county including the mean streets of Alcoa, the hamlet of Bungalow, the hood in Alnwick and of course the fertile recruiting grounds of Middlesettlements. I don't remember them dipping into Fairviewpopcorneater.gif

  12. First half was a solid defensive game by both teams...as seen by 7-3 Halftime. Science hill hardly passed during the first half. Their score came when Ehs fumbled it in scoring range and it was via pass. Ehs was able to make a lot of big runs and passed maybe 2 times in the first half. Ehs defense was able to stop the science hill run game. 2nd half was more offensive. Science hill maybe passed 1 out of every 6 plays. All their scores came via the pass. Ehs started passing and got a td via pass and the final td came via run with no time left in game. Science hill stuffed the run all 2nd half until the end of 4th when Ehs broke for some.more big plays.

I was surprised that sh didn't pass more. They were like 75%-25% run-pass. And all their scores came.from passes. Sh o-line fell apart and Hayes ate a lot of dirt tonight. Hopefully sh does better against the division teams. It wasn't a pretty win but it was better than a pretty loss. Science Hill had a number of penalties, mostly holding. But Good game science hill!

Wow what an ugly game. You hit on everything, nothing to add. Elizabethton kids played hard but were outnumbered that's all. SH fundamentally looked poor and honestly I left scratching my head, just a poor, poor effort on their part.
  13. Congrats on a big win tonight....Enjoy your season til you come calling at J fred Johnson in Week 10...Remember last year at your house??? This year you come to our house!!!! Is there a difference??? Ask Farragut. Good luck and win them all until then, It makes another Indian victory that much sweeter.

It's nice to see SH get a thread started devoted soley to them---thanks, it means someone is thinking about them early. DB is still king untl SH puts up, but I can tell you SH is deep and loaded. They do not have the look of typical SH teams, and they have 9 more weeks to improve and gel as a team. Depth is the key to playing big boy ball and I think the coaches may have figured this out. There is a reason DB fades in the 2nd half of games and in the playoffs. We shall see in a couple of months so until then good luck.
  14. If I liked Greenfield, I would feel really sorry for them when they travel to Alcoa. They better hope Rankin is in a good mood, or he may hang 60 on them.

Greeneville's weakness is defending the pass. Rankin won't throw it as much. SH QB is really good! I'm sure the Wilson kid for GHS is not excited to return home in Sept. He played hard tonight.
  15. The devils are young and will regroup after the loss. The big picture is there and that's a 3 peat. They will take the loss and learn from it. Glad to see the passing game is back somewhat. Devils will make noise in the playoffs. Gotta say we killed ourselves with giving the hill some easy tds

GHS is lucky they didn't get beat 56 to 7. SH must have had over 150 yards in penalties. If they had any discipline, the score would have been worse. SH has a bunch of talent, just too many stupid mistakes.
  16. I seen SH practice too . . . And I have to agree, but don't forget the Jamaal Stephens kid "wow". . They look to be improved over last year. I think Johnson City gets the best of Greeneville.

This is a good opportunity to pick a name recognition win. Jamaal looks much better this year. We shall see this Friday.
  17. I would rather trade Clinton for Oak Ridge on our Schedule, we sure miss plyaing that great game...it was the best.

Wierd, back 3 or 4 years ago when Farragut had it rolling in Football they had all kinds of posters on CoachT, now there are very few Admiral fans on here. Is it true that Alcoa scored on all 5 possesions against Farragut in their scrimmage?

    Roll Tribe Roll

Alcoa was 5 for 5 on their drives. Farragut is banged up though.

  18. I'd say it like this..... if Stacy Carter/Toppers don' beat Greeneville, then the Toppers wont have a good season at all. This is maybe time to pay the piper in Greeneville...but I wish them well and I hope the dominate 4A again.

Cook may not have been "on" on his passes, but that bomb to Foreman was on, on the money and he always runs the offensive set to a tee. I think he could run the toss sweep to Swaford with a blindfold on, and that goes for both of them being blindfolded. I though the DB Offensive line played really good especially for all of the new players. I dont remember one GDevil in the DB backfield in any of the first 4 DB possesions. I hope we can only improve on that execution leading up to Farragut next Friday night at J. Fred.

    Roll Tribe Roll

You are correct about the Toppers. They had a rough go of it at Knox West last Friday according to a Father I talked to this evening. They looked okay tonight against weak competition. They depend so much on the big play though and that is often not a recipe for success against a grinding team like Greeneville. SH needs to work on their run game and learn to tackle better on D.
