I have watched SH practice the last two nights and they have more numbers and better looking athletes than I have seen in a long, long time. Now, whether that means anything on the field; I don't know, we will have to wait two more weeks. I hope SH commits to the run more this year as they have some strong looking running backs besides 45. They pass the "eye" test that's for sure.

Got to know him originally when he was Rankin's DC at Riverdale and he got it in the back when he applied for the iniatial Blackman HC slot. VERY GOOD Coach and an even better man that you would want teaching your young men.
Good luck to y'all this season.
Ron was my neighbor in the Boro 20 years ago before he left the first time for Coffee County. Great guy even thought I was a bit surprised he took the Cleveland job after having lived in Middle Tenn his whole life. Cleveland is lucky to have him. That seems like a long, long time ago. Rankin had one heck of a staff in those "formative" Riverdale years. Seems like yesterday. This Alcoa Boy enjoyed watching those early Warrior Teams.

i betcha gq doesnt let them comeback,
41 to 0 in 3rd

I may be wrong but i think at Alcoa,RANKIN is the head coach, he brought in two more coaches with him that were head coaches at other schools one to run offence and one to run defense.DB keeps Clark as head coach,Carter to run the offence,Jenkins to run the defense now that would get it done
That is not the case at Alcoa. Rankin calls his plays NO ONE else touches his offense it is all him. The defensive coach is Brian Nix who is young and very talented and has turned down other jobs but has never been a head coach. He played at Maryville ironically but IMHO will be Rankin's replacement someday. Gary is one of the absolute best and no one builds PROGRAMS like he does. However I cannot see his family moving further East than the Knoxville area. If they move anywhere it will be back to Middle TN or another state. Plus I'm not sure Kingsport can pay as much as Alcoa. He likes to have him some talent though and won't go anywhere he cannot win. This whole conversation is useless though as I don't think Graham would be forced out and honestly DB is lucky to have him.

Carter is going to get to see the spread in its most perfect execution. I hate the spread because when it is done right it is frustrating to defend just like our wing-t. Roll Tribe!!!!!!!!!!!
The simplicity of Maryville's spread is what is beautiful about it. George really runs it with "veer" concepts and techinques balanced perfectly with every run play setting up something bigger. Science Hill's spread is run without a plan and with way too many deep routes that even George wouldn't make a high school quarerback throw.

I will be there next friday unless something else happens. I sure hope nothing bad happens. Science Hill will be much tougher than last year. Maryville could have won last years game 80-0. Hope Maryville wins and nobody gets hurt.
Ron, I promise you it won't be much different than last year. Maryville will average 10 yards a carry. If Carter throws too much, which he usually does, it will be mercy ruled by halftime. Maryville will not have played a softer "D" all year. Their Linebackers constantly stunt and are easy to pick off with down blocks which leaves huge lanes. Prevo will have a field day.

Get there early!
Last year at Maryville there weren't 100 Hilltopper fans in the stands at kickoff. It won't be that much different this year. The stands were half full at kickoff tonight against Karns. No one cares about football in JC.

Here is the formula to get Science Hill turned around. First of all, Stacey needs to play an entire game and run on every single play. I mean don't throw not one stinking pass!!! He's got way to good a o-line and runningbacks to fool with that stupid spread passing game. I can bet you, if he would commit to the run they would be successful. After they establish they are a running team, then he can mix in a few flair out passess to the backs and tight ends and maybe twice a game throw the ball deep. Carter needs to quit thinking he is " The Old Ball Coach" and do what they are capable of doing. Am i wrong? Did anyone else see the huge gains they got against DB when they did this? There is the formula, too bad for the Hill fans though, cause Stacey is still an idiot. Roll Tribe!!!!!!!!!!!
Well put! I'm not going to call SC an idiot but everything you said is what a lot of folks around town are saying. This year he had the kids to run a power offense. He will NEVER and I say NEVER beat the likes of Maryville or DB running his version of the spread. I have seen 5-yard out routes thrown inside the red zone from one hash clear across the field past the other hash only to have it picked off. Maybe when this crop of "pampered" Jr Topper products are gone, the future players will buy into what he is doing. The discipline was very very poor this year and I am surprised based on everything we had heard about the Sullivan South program. Who knows....maybe the kids in Johnson City are just not tuff enough to play big boy 6a football. I do think SC is fine person and wants to win so hopefully he will take a look at what it takes to play up including making the practices more fast paced filled with HITTING and FUNDAMENTALS.

1st Playoff game at Tipton Stadium and Science Hill will be looking for their first playoff win under Stacy Carter.
It will be a close one especially if SH's big lineman doesn't play. I will be anxious to see what the psyche of the team is this Friday.

Final:
CAK 24
Alcoa 10
Congrats CAK. Alcoa, pull together and make a run to be remembered.
They will meet again in the playoffs. Hats off to CAK. A lot of blood, sweat and hard work by the kids that have played their over the past 10-years paid off tonight. Enjoy this victory.

And Carter should of sent Nelson to the dressing room after he went out on the field and started mouthing to the DB sideline. Like you said ...gutless
I must have missed that one between the scuffle on the sidelines between a couple of SH players. When did Nelson go on the field????

Basically, we just couldn't do anything right and we had no breaks at all. Clearly they outplayed us. Dobyns Bennett is a good football team and should contend for state this year. Were a good team too, we just need led in the right direction. The rain didn't help any the whole game. The three fumbles that DB had were all recovered back by them. It was just a horrible night for us. No excuses, they flat out wanted it more. But I will say this, if the rain wasn't a factor, it wouldnt have been so one sided like it was. We have a balanced attack, it just left us with the run. Which our offense cant run alone on. Great game, and don't rub it in our faces, we know we got destroyed.
Not sure it's quite that simple. That was an absolute beat down. I have been to 7 games this year and I have been concerned about the discipline all year especially with kids mouthing at each other and sometimes towards the coaches. All of that inflated ego came home to roost tonight. The fundamentals are not taught on defense and the kids play like the pace of their practices. DB showed why they are the class of football in NE Tennessee. I won't matter if the two teams play again in two weeks. The outcome would be the same. This is the best DB Team I have seen since their 98 season when they could have easily beaten Oakland in the Semis. I have seen Maryville twice this year and if the game is played at DB I honestly believe they have a chance if they can control the clock. Graham seems to stay commited to one thing this year which he has not in the past and that is what has gotten him in trouble in the playoffs. Overall they were very hard nosed and very impressive tonight.

Just heard this morning about this. Actually did local play by play for a couple of years in the mid 80s and got to spend some time around Coach Dalton. He treated this "Maryville Guy" really well, and I enjoyed talking football with him. Great coach and even a better person, and a great sense of humor. We lost him way too soon. Prayers to his family, and the Alcoa community.
If anyone knows how to copy/paste the funeral arrangements when they are available it would be appreciated.

Coach Dalton passed away today for those of you who may not know. Coach meant a lot to so many of us and was more than a coach to me. Thanks for the memories you won't be forgotten.
-
Give a F---- about him one player don't steal the show.
Guess your "God Fearing" Coach's values have not rubbed off on you. Didn't know that kind of insinuated language was allowed at COC sponsored schools. Interesting.....in fact I bet you are 15 years old.
-
My guess wasn't even a fan till he was attracted to someone on the team.
Do you like to hear yourself talk? Does 51 get to play?
-
Rankin wins another gold ball. What is his record in state champs games? Then he leaves for Knox Cathalic. Book it!
Here we go..............that has been out there for 2-months.
-
I've got to say it before somebody else does, so here goes. Did they recruit his father too? Ok, I said it. Is the kicker Hardin from Stoney Creek too? I'm related to some Hardin's up that way.
Red Rebel I don't know where she's from but I can tell you she is one of the best athletes in the Tri Cities period regardless of gender. The folks from Betsy can elaborate better than me but she is a heck of an athlete!

That article did not mention that Lukes father is one of the all-time leading rushers for Elizabethton and went on to star in college and that his little brother was already playing and had always played at Elizabethton.
He's a good kid. Saw him play against Science Hill. Plays hard and is going to be really good with another year of maturity. You all be careful traveling to Alcoa. I'm going to miss it as I have a family function in Butler of all places!!!! Kind of funny.
-
You would be hard pressed to find Elizabethton players that did not play pee wee football there. I don't think we have any science hill kids on the team that played Friday night.
Nice article in the johnsoncitypress.com about one of Betsy's key players. I will refer everyone to the article as it will help settle the debate on whether Betsy benefits from getting transfers from other Carter County Schools. Just follow the Sports Link on the newspaper site. Proof is in the pudding........

I'd like to know how many kids playing for Alcoa actually grew up there? I bet it makes the ones that did feel good sitting on the sidelines watching the recruited Knoxville intercity kids win State Championships for them. But as long as they get a ring and the school gets another gold ball that's all that counts. Your TSSAA payment is due at the end of this month this year, they need Christmas money.
Now that's funny coming from a school that continually raids the surrounding Carter County schools of their players i.e. Happy Valley, Unaka, Hampton, etc. In fact you are starting to get a little pipline to Science Hill kids. What do you have 42 Freshman as someone was telling me the other day. All of those kids live off Elk Ave????? Just saying....................

Wow! You must really be something special. Maybe you should become a regular at Higer Ground. That one trip didn't do much for you.
Actually great church and good people. Sounds like you don't attend there.

Im suprised Ted Wilson would have a friend that comes on CoachT running his Pie-Hole about DB football. I have lots of respect for Alcoa Football as well as Maryville. You have no respect for even yourself. If you think im easy your about to find out differently. Im on you from here on out. You will end up in the nervous hospital. Go ahead and pack you bags. I bet they don't even let you in at the Alcoa games.
Played many games on Goddard Field........ and was once a guest of Mr. Wilson at Higher Ground Baptist. Go figure.................

If in fact your a true Alcoa fan what the heck are you on this thread for. Everybody knows Alcoa is very good, but Maryville is down this year compaired to the past, and you guys barely won that game. So, lets start up the DB vs. Alcoa discussion. Alcoa is one dimensional(run), and we have both. Now, we would'nt care to spank you guys either. I don't usually talk this crap but i'm sick of all you nonbelievers. No freakin respect. Oh yeah, you guys played Elizabethton in the playoffs last year. Wow, huge win for your program.LOL. No wonder why you've won all those state championships. And another thing, what's going to happen when coach Rankin decides to takeover for Coach Clark when he leaves DB. Their has been discussions. The party might be over. Roll Tribe!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rankin talks to everyone that's no secret. Alcoa will continure to win regardless who the coach is. Playing in the State Championship is a great experience and it never gets old
GOOD WEEK 0 GAMES
in Class 5A & Class 6A

Doubleheader at Alcoa: Maryville vs Cleveland followed by Alcoa vs Knox Webb.
Greeneville at Science Hill is the most interesting to me however. I think SH will turn the corner this year. I look forward to the game.
