  1. Could the competition form Ensworth be a factor in any decision by Rutlegde?
  2. Great job by Hillsboro defense. They held a good Clarksville team to 50 yds rushing 34 yds passing and just a field goal. These guys are well coached. Tough to run against and tougher to pass against. The paper loves to talk about the passing and rushing but the defense is winning games at Hillsboro.
  3. Should be a great game tonight. I hope the field is safe. They have moved the Morristown East vs West game to Carson Newman "for the safety of the players." Don't they have a new turf field at Austin Peay???
  4. Hats off to MJ. They have a bunch of good kids who played hard for the entire game.
  5. I like Antioch's chances tonight. They have the two best defensive ends in the mid-state and it will be tough for Ravenwood to move the ball.

  9. Sounds like a great way to spend a Thursday night to me!
  10. Arent has 4 rushing TDs to add to his 19 passing tds for a total of 23 (combined 1600 yds) against just three interceptions. (including 41 yd td pass with 1:51 on clock to beat Maplewood for region championship) Do you make him MVP for region 5 4a?

  13. Schools without a particular sport have "co-op" agreements with another school so that kids at the school without a sport can still participate. For example: MLK does not have a football team. They have a co-op agreement with Hillsboro and all MLK kids are eligible to play football at Hillsboro. I think Hume Fogg High School has an agreement with Hillwood.
  14. Tucker is a great football player and a really good kid

I would love to see similar calculations for other great quarterbacks in the state: BJ Coleman, Erik Larson, Adam Currie, Curt Phillips,...
  16. Hillsboro, = Speed RB Seward plus WR Garrett, Jorden, Gordon, Brown and Shelton Garrett and Gordon can cover any receivers in the state man to man and shut them down. Hillsboro even has fast linemen. Rodney Irvin and Nick Montgomery both run sub 5.0 forty and Chaz Braden on defensive line was a running back last year for coach A.
  17. I sure hope not. I will not dispute that he may be most qualified but Blade seems committed to this team. He has a bunch of Juniors and Sophmores returning. (RB Seward, QB Arent, WR Garrett, Shelton, Jorden, Gordon, LB Parker, Southall, DB Perry and two big lineman in Washington and White) Hillsboro will return seven starters/regulars on each side of the ball next season. If the coach stays at Hillsboro he could win two or three region championships in a row. I am not sure he would want to leave for that mess at Centennial.
  18. Sam pointed out that Stratford had no less than 10 personal fouls against Hillsboro. Two PF on one play. I believe he called them "thugs." While it is not fair to label the entire team based upon the actions of a few kids, any negative comments should be reserved for the players commiting the dumb and dangerous fouls. No point in shooting the messenger.
  19. Coach Scott Blade at Hillsboro has done a remarkable job. In his first year they have gone 10-0 and are favorites to reach the finals in AAAA. Coach Blade joined his team late and then lost most of the incumbent assitant coaches. He was able to put together a staff and then had to teach a new offense to his team. When Coach Blade arrived, he inherited a group of great athletes but none had any experience running patterns or catching passes. Last year Hillsboro averaged less than 3 passes per game. This year they have completed 94 of 168 for 1575 yards and 19 touchdowns (with only 3 interceptions) Good coaching is reflected in learning! Coach Blade should be recognized as coach of the year because he has taught so much to these kids. If you would prefer to base your vote on wins vs. losses, then you need only consider his 10-0 record.
  20. Not sure about all state team but Hillsboro 9-0 should be well represented on any regional team. Offense QB Matt Arent passing for 1390 yds 17 touchdowns against 3 interceptions (one pick for every 51 attempts; almost 6 tds per pick; 117 passing rating) RB Jaques Seward 1060yds / 17tds rushing 385 yds/ 5tds receiving WR Demetrous Garret 541 yds / 5 tds receiving (also a shut down corner back) Offensive line: Rodney Irvin, Nick Montgomery, Budd Coley, Richie White, Justin Hill Defense (giving up less than 12 pts per game) David Solomon Safety Chaz Braden DL Tracy Parker LB Dyvonte Allen LB Charlton Pence LB Eric Gordon DB
