  1. I received an email from the NFHS saying the new bat guidelines are in place immediately instead of later. They are overriding the individual states' decisions. The rule says that all composite bats are outlawed, but does not specify what is a composite bat. I talked to one sporting goods rep who is also an umpire, and he didn't even know exactly what it meant. Is a composite bat any "two piece" bat? The NFHS needs to clarify this soon. People will want to order bats in the offseason when they are cheaper, and they need to be able to fully understand what they can buy. A list of approved bats would be helpful. I'm sure the bat companies aren't happy about this.
  2. One problem that I see on almost a daily basis is the travel that some umpires are making to call a game. I hear the TSSAA saying they want to cut down on travel expenses for schools by reclassification. Why not do the same with umpires. Our school is located in the East Brainerd area of Chattanooga, but I would regularly talk to umpires who were driving from Bledsoe County, Rhea County or even Sequatchie County to call our games. Those are 40-50 minute drives. If an umpire chooses to join the Chattanooga association that is fine, but don't lament about travel expenses if you chose to travel that far. I think the umpiring assigner should put limitations on how far an umpire can travel. That is what TSSAA is trying to do with reclassifying. Why not do it with officials as well. It would help coaches and players as well as you would consistently play with the same umpires (same strike zones).
  3. Actually, Boyd came out of a very tough region. They are just very, very good. 1-9 through the order they can flat hit. Their pitching is consistent and good, but it doesn't matter because they outscore most anyone they face. Their region had several quality opponents in Lookout Valley, Marion County, South Pittsburg and Grace. It was a tough region with a team in it that was just a lot better than anyone else. For my money, Boyd has a great chance at bringing home gold because when everyone's pitching starts running out and it becomes a slugfest, they will score the most runs.
  4. Logan Long at Chattanooga Grace is hitting .545 w/ 6 HR hitting leadoff in every game this season. Great defensive SS also.
  5. Grace Baptist Academy in Chattanooga will be hosting football camps on June 14-17 for 6th-8th grade students and June 21-24 for 1st-5th grade students. Camp times are 8 A.M. - Noon. The camp will be hosted by new head coach Bob Ateca, and he will be assisted by the Grace football staff as well as current players. If registered before the beginning of camp cost is $80. 6. Will you be hosting any 16U tournaments this summer?
  7. Brandon and jalen were the starting backcourt for the tn travelers. Jalen did sign with auburn and is the reason brandon is leaning that way. He also may take an official visit to miss. st.

  9. Ok, so does anyone else know if Silverdale's post player transferred this year? If so, where did he go?
  10. Did you ever answer if your post player left? If so, where did he go?
  11. No one has any thoughts? I have seen a few who should probably be considered. SS-hayden bailey (soddy), logan long (grace). 3B-binder (ooltewah), C-trey sartain (grace).
  12. Who do you think are the top sophmores in chattanooga by position?
  13. No need to waste time talkimg about it. The officials up there will make sure clay wins. I coached a game at clay a few years ago where the foul count was 52-6 against my team. I'm sorry, but there is no team in this state that bad defensively.
  14. Does anyone know who is in the east ridge playday?
  15. Who should be the top teams in Chattanooga this year? Any surprise teams?
  16. Very true. CSAS always seems to have a lot of athletes who play really hard. In the new district I think they will be our best competition. Especially if the post at silverdale is gone.
  17. Fury Baseball 16U college exposure team from Chattanooga is looking for a couple of players for summer of 2010. Anyone interested should call (423)619-9488. Open to players from anywhere but would prefer if you lived in Chattanooga or North Georgia.
  18. In the district csas should be decent. We are in the best of preps so all the opponents there should be quality. We also have mccallie on the schedule who should be VERY good this year with a couple of big time transfers. How will SBA be? Heard the post player left? Is that true?
  19. Grace only had 2 seniors last year. I don't have individual stats but know what I'm talking about. Schley started 10 games last year. Nelson was the 6th man by the end of the year. The bigger additions will be rector, chris carter in the post (injured last year) and mcmasters. Depth will be a huge strength for grace. Should be able to go 10 deep without losing any talent.
  20. There were only 2 seniors on Grace's roster last year. The returning starters are Brandon Herman, Terrell Church and Taylor Wilson. The next three who played significant minutes last year are Corey Nelson, Nathan Schley and Matt Ruebusch. These six combined for approximately 65-70% of last season's scoring. Clayton McMasters should see significant minutes and has grown to 6'5 or 6'6. They also get Nathan Rector eligible who started at Temple as a freshman and a post player who missed all of last season with an ACL. They should be very long, athletic and good.
  21. Grace had problems getting everyone to camps this summer. No one ever saw them at full strength.
  22. You might want to check before you call Grace inexperienced. They will have 3 starters back and 6 of the top 8 scorers. Would not call that inexperienced.
  23. Grace has several players that should have good years. Logan Long (SS), Trey Sartain © and Matt Ruebusch (1B) to name a few. Solid senior class should make for a good year!
